In this paper, we propose a new compression artifact removable method for MPEG-2 moving pictures. We utilize the Total Variation (TV) regularization method, and obtain a texture component in which blocky noise and mosquito noise are decomposed. These artifacts are removed by using selective filters controlled by the edge information from the structure component and the motion vectors. The experimental results show much better performances for removing compression artifacts compared with the conventional method.

An accurate model of IEEE 802.11e EDCA for video quality analysis is introduced in this paper. The analysis of the model considers not only the effects of collision loss from channel access competition but also wireless loss caused by interferences and fading. Using the model, we derive the video frame loss probability and distribution of access delay, and validate the accuracy of the proposed model through comparisons with other models via simulations based on video decoded frame rate.

Recently, touchless multiview fingerprinting technology has been proposed as an alternative to overcome the intrinsic problems of traditional contact-based systems. Nevertheless, compression of this kind of signal has not been fully evaluated and standardized. This paper investigates the comparative performance of several encoders for this data, namely WSQ, JPEG2000, H.264/AVC and MMP. Experimental results show that WSQ encoder, which is the current compression standard for contact-based fingerprints, is objectively outperformed by all others. In particular, MMP, which achieved the best results, outperforms WSQ by up to 4 dB.

The paper proposes an improved perceptual norm adjustment algorithm for ITU-T G.719, in which norm adjustment is based on segmental weighted Signal-to-Mask Ratio (SMR). This algorithm uses SMR to detect the location of harmonics, then weights SMR with the segmental spectral energy. SMR is computed from the reconstructed quantized MDCT coefficients. Finally the algorithm guides bit allocation with the adjusted norm and enhances psychoacoustic masking effect in bit allocation. Results of informal subjective listening tests show that the proposed method can improve the performance of G.719 slightly at low bit rates by using perceptual norm adjustment with segmental SMR.

This paper deals with aliasing distortion in digital audio signal synthesis of basic periodic waveforms with infinite Fourier series. There is aliasing when these signals are generated in digital domain because of its unlimited bandwidth. There are several synthesis techniques of these signals designed to avoid or reduce the aliasing distortion but they have high computing demands. Trivial generation of basic periodic waveforms is therefore still effective for sound synthesis when oversampling is used. There will always be the aliasing distortion but some spectral components produced by the aliasing will be masked with harmonic components and thus inaudible. This paper deals with objective evaluation of audible aliasing distortion with the help of a psychoacoustic model of simultaneous masking and compares the computing demands with other methods.

Images has very significant role in digital media. However, generally digital imaging generates large amounts of data it need to be compressed, without loss of relevant information or simply lossless compression. This paper presents a novel lossless image compression technique in spatial domain. The proposed algorithm divide the image into no. of blocks uses variable bits to store each block pixels. Calculation of variable bits is dependent on pixel values of each block. The advantage of proposed scheme, it is dependent upon pixels correlation with in a block. Experimental results show that our proposed algorithm gives better compression efficiency as compared to many existing state-of-the-art lossless spatial domain image compression algorithms such as LZW, RLE and DEFLATE used in TIFF, GIF and PNG formats.

Online Engineering allows users to perform tele-operation over the Internet. It is used in collaboratories, distance learning curriculum, and remote maintenance processes. Tele-operation over the Internet is however restrained by the development time and cost of ad hoc solutions. These solutions a) are hardly reusable, b) present a low fidelity of the human computer interface, and c) barely enable pervasive accesses (standalone clients or Web forms). We present in this paper a novel approach for building tele operation Human Computer Interfaces based on interactive multimedia. The end-user commands the remote device using interactive elements in the multimedia interface. The feedback information is seen as a combination of natural video content, produced by an IP camera capturing the instrument and synthetic graphics corresponding to elements of the device input interface (control panel). The proposed architecture fosters the reuses and gives a high level of interoperability between command terminals, since the interface can be displayed in any terminal able to lay out multimedia content.

SECMPEG selectively encrypts data to protect MPEG video streams. However, this scheme is inefficient because it encrypts the whole I-frames whose size is relatively larger than B/P-frames. In this paper, we propose a more efficient selective encryption approach which exploits the error propagation property in MPEG2 standard. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach can reduce the execution time of SECMPEG by a factor of 32 without degradation of the security.

This paper addresses the problem of application mapping for Mesh-of-Tree (MoT) based Network-on-Chip. It proposes a new algorithm based on Kernighan-Lin partitioning to identify closely related cores of the application. The nodes are then mapped to the topology using another heuristic algorithm. The MoT mapping results have been compared with the mesh-mapping results reported in the literature for some benchmark applications. Both static communication cost and dynamic costs (including latency and throughput) of the mapped solution have been compared.

In this paper, a high speed pipelined architecture with pipeline scheduler is presented for the JPEG2000 arithmetic encoder. The new design has removed the need for the additional hardware units for the procedures of the encoding process with suitably controlling the pipeline stages. The proposed system is described in Verilog HDL and targeted for the Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA family. Results of the timing analysis showed that designed architecture is able to achieve 132 Msymbols/sec throughput.
