The objective of image fusion is to combine information from multiple images of the same scene in order to deliver only the useful information. The discrete cosine transform (DCT) based methods of image fusion are more suitable and time-saving in real-time systems using DCT based standards of still image or video. In this paper an efficient approach for fusion of multi-focus images based on variance calculated in DCT domain is presented. The experimental results on several images show the efficiency improvement of our method both in quality and complexity reduction in comparison with several recent proposed techniques.

This paper presents a MP3 / AAC decoder with hardware and software co-design method. In this method, both the flexibility of the software design and the lower power consumption and higher speed of the hardware design are considered. Based on the analysis of algorithm complexity and the compatibility, the Huffman and the IMDCT hardware accelerator module are developed to accelerate the decoding process. At the same time, the fast algorithms adopted in the hardware accelerators have good expandability. The MP3 / AAC decoder is implemented and verified on Xilinx XUP VIIP board. The test results show that MP3 / AAC decoder could reach realtime processing when the Power PC runs at the frequency of 300MHz.

At present, FTV is available on a single PC or a mobile player. The international standardization of FTV has been conducted in MPEG. Digital camera is one of them where realtime image capturing, compression and storage of compressed image data is done. Most present day no-reference/blind image quality assessment (NR IQA) algorithms are distortion specific - i.e., they assume that the distortion affecting the image is known. Here we propose a novel two stage framework for distortion-independent blind image quality assessment based on natural scene statistics (NSS). The proposed framework is modular in that it can be extended beyond the distortion-pool considered here, and each module proposed can be replaced by better-performing ones in the future. We describe a 4-distortion demonstration of the proposed framework and show that it performs competitively with the full-reference peak-signal-to-noise-ratio on the LIVE IQA database. Watermarking is a new impressive digital copyright protection method and data security technology. The image watermarking algorithms can be grouped into two groups depending on the domain of watermarking, i.e., the spatial and transform domain. Usually, the transform-based watermarking approaches can efficiently hide a robust watermark due to the utilization of the characteristics of human visual system (HVS). In this paper, we propose a watermarking algorithm based on contourlet transform. The contourlet transform is one of the recently developed multiscale transforms that are more appropriate for image processing tasks in contrast with other transforms such as Fourier and wavelets. In this base, the proposed algorithm in this paper stores the digital logo as side information by average quantization of selected contourlet coefficients in arbitrary subbands. The proposed data embedding method is imperceptible and robust against several common watermarking attacks such as compression, adding noise, filtering and scaling.

This paper proposes a scalable scrambling method in the DCT compressed domain while inserting external information into the content to be scrambled. Scalable scrambling effect is achieved by permuting DC components using a window of size that varies according to a parameter, and external information is encoded by imposing a specific relationship on the cardinality of two adjacent coefficient blocks. The zerorun-level pairs and the cardinality of each coefficient block are generated and en-queued to a list. This list is permuted and sequentially de-queued to generate the scrambled image. The ideas are implemented in JPEG compressed domain, and the basic performance of our scalable scrambling and data hiding method are verified with standard test images.

In this paper, an encoding system is proposed to further reduce the power consumption in parallel video encoding based on difference detection and Hilbert transform based workload estimation (HTWE). The proposed parallel encoding system provides an average of 40% computational complexity reduction for parallel encoding without objective performance loss. For the multi-core platform with frequency and voltage scalability, up to 78% of power reduction can be achieved.

Multimedia Encryption is an extremely useful method for the stopping unwanted interception and viewing of any transmitted video or other information. Most of the existing video encryptions algorithms that are to be considered to be of significantly increase the video size independent of encryption algorithm employed. This is because these algorithms encrypt DCTs without considering their characteristics or relationship to the visual content. This adversely affects the transmission throughput. Here we introduce a new methodology for video encoding i.e of security in which a video based security on H.264 standards that has become a new research focus. In this research mechanism it reduces the video size significantly without any compromise in security. The proposed algorithm performs encryption followed by permutation of the DCTs. On an average, increase in video size is restricted of that of the original video.

Information Hiding is a good method to transmit important information secretly. Video sequences usually include many frames, so they have more room to hide information. In the paper, in order to increase the amount of hiding information, we choose MPEG sequences as hosts, and we present a practical method to hide information in MPEG compressed video. Generally, there are many B-frames in each GOP. We utilize the B-frames to hide information, so that we can increase the amount of hiding information and decrease the tamper of the hosts. In order to increase the correctness of receiving information, we make use of Hamming code to check the errors of receiving information. Hiding and extracting are performed in compressed video sequences without requiring original video. The experimental results show that the proposed method has the characteristics of less tampering the visual effect, larger hiding capacity, and the validity of receiving information.
