Improvement of performance in sub-band coding system that style in image coding system, is very important. In the coding systems, due to the filter bank that used, coding schemes are classified into two classes, one might have the pair-wise mirror-image property in their filter banks, and performs symmetrically regardless of the sign of the autocorrelation, and the other including JPEG2000 that uses bi-orthogonal 9/7-tap Daubechies filters for lossy compression, has not the mirror image property and performs asymmetrically with inferior performance for negative autocorrelation. In this paper, we want with modulating the negatively-correlated signal sequence by the alternating sign signal with unity magnitude to convert them into positively correlated-sequence. The experimental results for test images show that little gain was obtained by for natural images, since they have small amount of energy in the high frequency bands in horizontal and vertical directions. However 1.5-2dB improvement of PSNR has been obtained for images such as Fingerprint, which have a large amount of energy in high frequency range.

With the rapidly growing use of digital images in medical archival and communication, image compression technology, especially diagnosis lossless compression technology, plays a more and more important role for medical applications. In this thesis, a novel diagnosis loseless compression algorithm is presented for digital mammography. The mammogram is divided into breast region, pectoral muscle and background using the CAD technologies. Then the breast region and pectoral muscle are compressed losslessly and lossily using arbitrary shape ROI compression algorithm respectively. The background can be discarded or compressed as user's will. Experimental results show that the proposed method offer potential advantage in medical applications of digital mammography compression.

In the recent years more and more people have begun to edit video files, as technologies are becoming more sophisticated and affordable. Web 2.0 has raised tagging functionality to a growing number of websites such as Flickr and YouTube. However, these services only provide basic video annotation support. In comparison to those well-known services there are many research efforts towards video semantization tools. These tools provide highly precise annotation functionality based on metadata standards such as MPEG-7, but tend to exhibit very complex user interfaces. In this paper we present the design, implementation and evaluation of SeViAnno, an MPEG-7 based interactive semantic video annotation Web platform with the main objective to find a well-balanced trade-off between a simple user interface and video semantization complexity.

This paper proposes an experimental evaluation of state of the art 2D/3D, view-based indexing methods. The principle of 2D/3D indexing methods consists of describing 3D models by means of a set of 2D shape descriptors, associated with a set of corresponding 2D views (under the assumption of a given projection model). Several experiments were conduced in order to examine the influence of the number of views and of the associated viewing angle selection strategies on the retrieval results. Experiments concern both 3D model retrieval and image recognition from a single view. Three 2D shape descriptors were tested in order to determine which of them is the most suited for such approaches. Results obtained show promising performances, with recognition rates from a single view higher than 80%, which opens interesting perspectives in terms of semantic metadata extraction from still images/videos.

In recent years, the MP3 music objects become the popular type of music file in many internet audio applications, including the surveillance system. But, less attention was received to the content-based classification of audio data. While Cloud Services were blooming, the classification of MP3 music has better more and more important. It is necessary to process much audio data when Cloud Computing. In this paper, we propose an approach to classify MP3 objects based on their energy distribution. The techniques of PCA (principal component analysis) and RBF (radial basis function) network is used to construct the MP3 classifier. Experiment show that the good performance of an MP3 classification system can be met by the proposed method.

We explore several local and global strategies for adaptive scan ordering of transform coefficients in JPEG XR/HD Photo. This codec applies a global adaptive scan-order heuristic with respect to an effective localized predictor. The global ordering heuristic, although simple, performs as well as localized techniques that are computationally significantly more complex. We conclude that effective localized prediction not only minimizes but also essentially randomizes coefficient residuals, so that a global statistic is sufficient to deliver near-optimal compression performance.

A virtual view rendering oriented fast algorithm is proposed to reduce computational complexity of multiview depth video coding. Firstly, the depth image is divided into depth-continuity and depth-discontinuity regions by a macroblock deviation factor. Then, imbalance macroblock mode distribution of depth-continuity regions and effect of image quality degradation in depth-discontinuity regions on virtual view rendering are discussed and analyzed in detail. Finally, the fast algorithm is presented. Two methods are utilized in different regions of depth video. The first method, directly searching SKIP and Intra modes is adopted in smooth regions. The second method which is the same as the JMVM reference software is utilized in depth discontinuous regions. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm significantly promotes the encoding speed of depth video by 3.91~11.33 times, while maintains high virtual rendering performance in comparison with full search algorithm.

In this approach, biorthogonal wavelet transform based method is proposed for digital image watermarking and turbocoded JPEG2000 is proposed for correction of transmission errors due to the bursty wireless channels. The proposed approach is corroborated with implementation results on an image.
