The temperature suitability, sunlight suitability, precipitation suitability model and climatic suitability model of single-season rice are set up by using Fuzzy mathematics theory and referring to former study, and the temperature suitability, sunlight suitability, precipitation suitability and climatic suitability of different growing periods have been calculated separated with the model and related data during 1960–2009 of Anhui Province. The results show that temperature suitability and sunlight suitability are relatively big, and precipitation suitability is small in Anhui Province. Climatic suitability and temperature suitability of single-season rice have decreasing trend, and the sunlight suitability has a downward trend.

This paper presents the new concept of watermark survival chance (WSC) for improving watermark robustness. WSC provides a robustness measure for an image feature (e.g. a discrete wavelet transform (DWT) coefficient) when used for watermark embedding, and thus can provide the watermark designer with prior knowledge on robust image features. As an illustrative example, we study additive spread spectrum watermarking in the DWT domain and consider JPEG compression as the attack. WSC is obtained for each DWT coefficient/subband for different compression ratios. Based on the WSC table for JPEG compression distortion, we suggest that: Wavelet coefficients can be divided into two main categories: block boundary coefficients and block non-boundary coefficients; block boundary coefficients generally are more robust for watermark embedding than block non-boundary coefficients; larger scale wavelet coefficients are generally more robust than smaller scales; a vertical subband is slightly preferred at small and large scales, while a horizontal subband is preferred at a medium scale.

Midwave infrared (MWIR) persistent surveillance systems typically attempt to maximize coverage area leading to designs that push the limits of resolution. This places few pixels on target and can lead to performance challenges related to high spatial frequency content. This is especially true of pixel sized objects in the imagery and the potential for small apparent temperature differences between these objects and local background causing low contrast. Further complicating the issue is the need to compress the imagery during transmission. Lossy compression effects from JPEG 2000 compression were examined to determine the effects on pixel sized objects in the imagery. Furthermore, the optimum order of operations within the image processing chain necessary to preserve pixel sized object information in compressed imagery is investigated. Applying unsharp masking prior to 14-bit JPEG 2000 compression followed by decompression produced the best results at maintaining the integrity of pixel sized objects at compression ratios up to 40:1 based on visual interpretation of the imagery.

In this paper, we perform several experiments focusing on the problems of environment recognition from audio particularly for forensic application. We investigated the effect of temporal zero crossing feature and some selected MPEG-7 audio low level descriptors on environment sound recognition. The performance is evaluated against varying number of training sounds and samples per each training file. Experimental results show that higher recognition accuracy is achieved by increasing the number of training files and by decreasing the number of samples per training file.

Stereo matching techniques usually match segments or blocks of pixels. This paper proposes to match segments defined as fuzzy sets of pixels. The proposed matching method is applicable to various techniques of stereo matching as well as to different measures of differences between pixels. In the paper, embedment of this approach into the state-of-the-art depth estimation software is described. Obtained experimental results show that the proposed way of stereo matching increases reliability of various depth estimation techniques.

The digital revolution in medical environment speeds up development of remote Robotic-Assisted Surgery and consequently the transmission of medical numerical data such as pictures or videos becomes possible. However, medical video transmission requires significant bandwidth and high compression ratios, only accessible with lossy compression. Therefore research effort has been focussed on video compression algorithms such as MPEG-2. In this paper, we are interested in determining compression thresholds and associated bit-rates which are acceptable with respect to the quality required in the field of medical video transmission. To evaluate MPEG-2 compressed medical video quality, we performed a subjective assessment test with a panel of human observers (experienced surgeons) using a DSCQS (Double-Stimuli Continuous Quality Scale) protocol derived from the International Telecommunication Union recommendations (ITU-R BT-500-11). Promising results estimate that 3 Mbits/s could be sufficient (compression ratio around threshold compression level around 90:1 compared to the original 270 Mbits/s) as far as perceived quality is concerned.

In this paper a new blind watermarking algorithm based on DCT (discrete cosine transform) and DWT (discrete wavelet transform) was proposed. In order to enhance the security of watermarking, Arnold transform is carried out on the watermark image. Firstly discrete wavelet transform is carried out on the host image three times. Secondly the low resolution sub-image of DWT (LL3) is divided in to 8*8 blocks and then discrete cosine transform is carried out on the blocks. At last the middle frequency coefficients of the blocks are selected to embed the watermark image. In term of traditional algorithm the experiment results show that the new algorithm keeps the quality of host image well and a high robustness against common attacks such as JPEG compression, additive Gaussian noise, image rotation, image cropping and so on.

This paper describes the implementation of the MPEG AVC CABAC entropy decoder using the RVC-CAL dataflow programming language. CABAC is the Context based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic coding entropy decoder that is used by the MPEG AVC/H.264 main and high profile video standard. CABAC algorithm provides increased compression efficiency, however presents a higher complexity compared to other entropy coding algorithms. This implementation of the CABAC entropy decoder using RVC-CAL proofs that complex algorithms can be implemented using a high level design language. This paper analyzes in detail two possible methods of implementing the CABAC entropy decoder in the dataflow paradigm.

The current signalling framework for Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) systems is based on MPEG-2 encoded Program Specific Information and System Information (PSI/SI) Tables that rely on the Transport Stream (TS). It is expected that in time, this architecture will be replaced by one based on the Generic Stream Encapsulation (GSE) protocol, paving the way for the convergence of DVB-S2 broadcast transmission networks and IP infrastructure. A new lightweight Generic Stream Signalling Transport Protocol (GSSTP) is presented in this paper, which efficiently facilitates the filtering of PSI/SI Tables in a GSE-only transmission system.
