Image can be parsed into two main categories of representation: structure shape and region texture. In this paper, the parallel multi-regions image restoration system is proposed in order to ensure the real-time application. This system is implemented on a dedicated cluster. With different number of regions, PMR system is executed on the same original image in order to obtain the best restoration result. Experiments have demonstrated that our PMR system can improve the restoration efficiency significantly and achieve optimal restoration.

This paper proposes a low bandwidth HD1080@60fps JPEG-XR transform design to solve the huge memory access problem induced by doing Photo Overlap transform (POT) in JPEG-XR. Three low bandwidth techniques are proposed to decrease the amount of data access in the overlapping area between MBs when doing the POT, especially in the POT-2 mode. The proposed design can reduce 72% memory bandwidth when compared to the conventional method. At operating frequency of 250MHz, the proposed design could support the real-time processing for videos with resolution up to HD1080@60fps.

The proliferation of low-cost multimedia-enabled mobile devices and free educational video content is adding strain to existing limited bandwidth resource delivery networks. The newly introduced Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) standard is a cross-platform, efficient and cost-effective solution for media streaming to a variety of IP/multimedia enabled devices. This standard supports access to content stored at multiple hosts, but does not suggest any selection mechanism. This paper describes and evaluates a DASH-aware Performance Oriented Adaptation Agent (dPOAA) which dynamically selects best performing hosts for video delivery. Preliminary evaluation shows that this solution improves the quality of delivered video in terms of maintained estimated MOS and reduced buffering and initial delay on the client side.

We present our third place solution for the ALASKA2 Image Steganalysis competition. We develop detectors using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) on both the spatial domain and the frequency domain of the discrete cosine transform used in JPEG compression. Our CNN detectors use state-of-the-art architectures in image classification tasks. We adjust the architecture to better capture the features of steganography methods in the frequency domain. We build an ensemble model of these CNNs, in which both spatial and frequency domain models contribute to performance. In this paper, we describe those models in detail and explain how the techniques used in them improve accuracy through experiments.

Although MPEG-1 Video is a promising and the most widely used moving picture compression standard it requires a lot of computational resources to encode the moving pictures with a reasonable frame size and quality. In this paper we propose and implement an efficient parallelizing scheme for an MPEG-1 Video encoding algorithm on Ethernet-connected workstations which is the most widely available computing environment nowadays. In this parallelizing scheme, the slice-level, frame-level, and GOP (Group of Pictures)-level parallelisms are identified as the attractive parallelisms that can be exploited in Ethernet-connected workstations. Three efficient parallel implementation schemes considering the communication characteristics of Ethernet-connected workstations are also proposed and experimented A series of experiments using thirty workstations shows that the MPEG-1 Video encoding time can be reduced in proportional to the number of workstations used in encoding computations although there is a saturation point in the speedup graphs.

Robust video compression and transport approaches are essential for operation over emerging ATM-based broadband ISDN and gigabit networks characterized by packet (cell) losses due to congestion. The same techniques also apply to delivery of digital TV and HDTV over cable, satellite, or terrestrial media in which high bit-error rates may occasionally be experienced. A specific cell-based MPEG video transport approach applicable to a variety of media is described for both one-tier and two-tier transmission alternatives. Decoder cell-loss concealment techniques supported by this transport format are introduced, and typical design issues are discussed. Simulation results showing end-to-end MPEG video quality are given illustrating the performance of the transport and concealment schemes under consideration for example channel scenarios.< >

In this paper we present a comparison between JPEG 2000-based motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) and H.264 fidelity range extension (FRExt) high profile (HP) codecs, used for the compression of video streams for digital cinema (DC) applications. Existing MCTF techniques have been extended and adapted to the particular characteristics of DC images, and they have been compared with state-of-the-art compression methods. The results show that H.264 generally achieves the best objective results, with MCTF very close or better at low bit rates: in this case, the existing JPEG 2000 decompression hardware may profitably exploit MCTF.
