This paper presents the new high-performance circuit architecture of the transform and quantization for unified video CODEC. The proposed architecture can be applied to all kinds of transforms for the video compression standards such as JPEG, MPEG-1/2/4, H.264 and VC-1. It exploits the similarity of 4-point DCT and 8-point DCT using permutation matrices. Since our circuit accepts the transform coefficients from the users, it can be extended very easily to cover any kind of DCT-based transforms for future standards. The multipliers in the transform circuit are shared by the quantization circuit in order to minimize the circuit size. The quantization operations are performed using spare clock cycles during the transform operations in order to minimize the number of clock cycles required. We described the proposed transform circuit at RTL and verified its operation on FPGA board.

This paper proposes an invertible semi-fragile video watermarking algorithm using a hash function to authenticate the MPEG-4 video contents. The proposed algorithm embeds two watermarks into I frame while encoding YUV video to MPEG-4 format. One watermark using hash function aims to authenticate the contents and embed the frame number for manipulation location between frames, and the other one based on DC coefficients is used for the detection of manipulation location within the frame. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is able to authenticate the video contents and detect the manipulation location, and it is robust for MPEG-4 compression. In addition, the proposed algorithm is exactly invertible, which means that the original video data is available as long as the watermarked video is credible.

One of the hottest areas of development in the computer industry today is motion video on the desktop. Both motion video and still image video pose some new problems: huge storage and high bandwidths are required to send, view or store video data in a timely fashion. Compression techniques may help to reduce the amount of data by trading processing power for reduced data size. For both video compression and decompression, very large amounts of processing power are required to handle the video data quickly enough. Parallel processing is being used in some cases to solve this need for processing power. This paper explores some of the parallel processing techniques currently being used, and some additional possibilities for parallelization. It focuses primarily on JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) techniques, but many of the concepts are applicable to other compression schemes. Results from a simple PC-based JPEG compression/decompression program are used to explore some of the techniques.< >

This paper proposes a method of identified reciprocating motion in pornographic video from other human action using Hidden Markov Model (HMM). The motion vectors are obtained by decoding the compressed MPEG video. Then the feature vectors are extracted by calculating the direction and the magnitude of the motion vectors. The feature vectors are fed to Hidden Markov Model for training and classification of actions. Six actions were trained with distinct HMM for classification. The correct recognition result is up to 90%.

Basically, the proposed technique exploits the input data variations to dynamically reconfigure the search window size of an exhaustive block-matching search. In this paper, a lossless image coding scheme is proposed, which is based on Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) pixel value predictor, contextual error feedback and context adaptive arithmetic coding. The use of BPNN predictor in the proposed image compression scheme has resulted in improved compression ratio in comparison to the benchmark lossless compression schemes, LOCO-I and CALIC. The main advantage of BPNN pixel value predictor is its capability to adapt itself to the image being coded. The use of BPNN predictor resulted in lower values for entropy as compared to other predictors such as, MED (Median Edge Detection predictor) and GAP (Gradient-Adjusted Predictor) used in LOCO-I and CALIC respectively. The average bits per pixel (bpp) value obtained by utilizing the proposed scheme for nine test images indicate an improvement by 7.6% over LOCO-I, 2.85% over CALIC and 8.82% over JPEG2000 in lossless mode.

Existing image codec technologies are based on transform which make image signal can be compressed, while quantization has been used to control bit rates. Compressive sensing (CS), which is a novel signal processing and recovery method, can be applied to image decoding to replace inverse transform reconstruction. This paper proposes an error estimate method based on equalization quantization noise model for image codec. Due to the robust character of CS, it can upgrade the quality of reconstruction when error has been estimated accurately. With designed equalization matrix, a new norm constraint which can enhance the quality of CS recovery significantly has been shown. A CS-based JPEG decoding scheme based on quantization error estimate is also presented, and experimental evidence exhibits more gains over CS reconstruction without error estimation and original JPEG decoder.

Transmitting compressed variable bit-rate (VBR) video with a traditional constant bit-rate (CBR) service for continuous playback requires a large buffer on the viewer's side. In this paper, we study a new CBR transmission scheme which employs the program clock references (PCR) that are embedded in the MPEG-2 transport streams to reduce the buffer requirement. The scheme is called "PCR-assist CBR" (PCBR). The PCBR scheme uses PCRs to examine its transmission regularly. It holds up the transmission if it is ahead of schedule. Based on experimental results with video traces, the PCBR scheme reduces the buffer requirement at the cost of a higher transmission rate.

JPEG 2000 is a wavelet-based image compression standard and coding system. It will supersede the original JPEG standard in the future. Compared with Counterlet transform or Gabor filter, wavelet transform used in JPEG 2000 is less effective to extract robust edge features. In this paper, a novel discrete wavelet transform (DWT) based image hashing algorithm is proposed. Robust bits of HL, LH and HH sub-band in the same middle-frequency scale are extracted first. Then, they are fused to generate the hash. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is highly robust to content preserving operations as well as having an excellent performance on tampering localization. In addition, since robust features are extracted in the same scale, the generation of hash is only needed to decode JPEG 2000 image code stream partially.
