Deriving Bathymetric Maps of the Shallow Coastal Water of the Gaza Strip Coastal Zone Using Passive Remotely Sensed Imagery

Bathymetry, the mapping of the shape of the surface of the seafloor, is a necessary science for coastal populations that rely heavily on the marine ecosystem for their survival and prosperity. Bathymetric maps are typically derived through a sound or light remote sensing system that is mounted on a boat or airplane that sweeps the designated study area. However, in regions with political constraints or logistical difficulties, reaching the study area and conducting in situ measurements can be difficult or impossible. Thus, using passive satellite imaging can be an alternative approach to traditional hydrographic surveying methods. As bathymetric maps are influenced by the local sea water conditions, the bottom type, and the water constituents, choosing a derivation algorithm for the satellite images which results in a robust and accurate map is very important. In this study, QuickBird imagery was selected to investigate the functionality and the accuracy of two different bathymetric derivation algorithms to obtain robust and reliable maps of the Gaza Strip coastal zone. Despite the high pollution level in the seawater of the investigated area, the findings confirmed the feasibility of obtaining reasonable accurate bathymetric maps.

Maximizing control flow concurrency in BPMN workflow models through syntactic means

Purpose Concurrency is a desirable property that enhances workflow efficiency. The purpose of this paper is to propose six polynomial-time algorithms that collectively maximize control flow concurrency for Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) workflow models. The proposed algorithms perform model-level transformations on a BPMN model during the design phase of the model, thereby improving the workflow model's execution efficiency. Design/methodology/approach The approach is similar to source code optimization, which solely works with syntactic means. The first step makes implicit synchronizations of interdependent concurrent control flows explicit by adding parallel gateways. After that, every control flow can proceed asynchronously. The next step then generates an equivalent sequence of execution hierarchies for every control flow such that they collectively provide maximum concurrency for the control flow. As a whole, the proposed algorithms add a valuable feature to a BPMN modeling tool to maximize control flow concurrency. Findings In addition, this paper introduces the concept of control flow independence, which is a user-determined semantic property of BPMN models that cannot be obtained by any syntactic means. But, if control flow independence holds in a BPMN model, the model's determinism is guaranteed. As a result, the proposed algorithms output a model that can be proved to be equivalent to the original model. Originality/value This paper adds value to BPMN modeling tools by providing polynomial-time algorithms that collectively maximize control flow concurrency in a BPMN model during the design phase of the model. As a result, the model's execution efficiency will increase. The scope of this article is to present knowledge-based Unified Modelling Language (UML) behaviour (dynamic) models generation from Enterprise Model (EM) technique. The main advantage of this method is that problem domain knowledge inducted during user requirements specification and business modelling IS lifecycle phases are validated and verified before formal criteria defined. In this case empirical factors which could adversely influence the whole IS development process are decreased. The beginning of generation process is a selection of concrete UML model and specific element from EM as the main one. In this article main steps of generation from EM are presented. The conclusive result of the generation from EM are UML dynamic models that specifies structure of specific problem domain and can be used by IS developers in further lifecycle phases.

Several information technology enterprises have decided to migrate into cloud for their computing and storage requirements in order to get reliable software and high performance hardware resources in a cost-effective manner. A single cloud service cannot fulfill the functional requirements in several real-world situations. Then, the concept of composite cloud service is introduced to bundle single cloud services to satisfy the complex end-users' requirements. However, there is no formal approaches that can verify the behavioral correctness of cloud composite services automatically. In this paper, we address this shortcoming by developing an automatic transformation tool. This tool takes as input the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) processes in charge of the services composition and the behavior description of participating services and produces the Interpreted Systems Programming Language+ (ISPL+) models that include all possible interactions among participating agents through intermediate object representations. The tool also capitalizes on the most widely used BPEL constructs and includes a transformation algorithm for each BPEL construct. Our tool is the first one that considers the interactions among invoked services. Such interactions are formally modeled by the social commitment modality in the Computation Tree Logic for Commitments (CTLC) logic. The generated ISPL+ agent models can be verified using the MCMAS+ symbolic model checker developed for multi-agent communication.

Fully-developed flow and temperature calculations for theologically complex materials using a mapped circular domain

This paper considers fully-developed flows in ducts of arbitrary shape under thermal conditions of fluids obeying various constitutive equations. The numerical method is based on the transformation of the physical flow domain, assumed to be simply-connected. By using mass, momentum and energy conservation equations, the analysis bads to direct determination of contour velocity curves, corresponding stresses and temperatures. Calculations are performed in the mapped domain where simple meshes and efficient discretization schemes may be defined The thermal dependence is considered using a time-temperature superposition principle. Newtonian, Purely viscous, viscoelastic and yield stress fluids are investigated for several flow geometries, with realistic parameters and boundary conditions. Comparisons with existing analytical solutions are found to be satisfactory The influence of temperature related to various physical and flow parameters is discussed.

Charge manipulation for improved mass determination of high-mass species and mixture components by electrospray mass spectrometry

The manipulation of the charge states of high-mass ions can facilitate mass determination in electrospray (ES) mass spectrometry. Specifically, the reduction of charge (which leads to ions of higher mass-to-charge ratios) can significantly reduce peak overlap. Signals associated with various charge states of high-mass ions are more easily resolved at low charge states and chemical noise tends to be significantly lower at high mass-to-charge ratios than in the normal mass-to-charge window typically associated with electrospray. algorithms that transform ES mass spectra to zero-charge spectra are most likely to yield unambiguous results when charge states are clearly resolved and when signal-to-noise ratios are relatively high. Charge manipulation can enhance the value of the transformation algorithms in cases in which compromises their utility. Such situations include ES mass spectra of high-mass species that yield charge states that are not baseline resolved, mixtures with many components and mixtures in which the signals from major components overwhelm signals from minor components. Examples of improved mass determination are illustrated for proteins using ion-ion chemistry as the means for charge state manipulation and the quadrupole ion trap as the mass analyzer.
