In this paper, a high quality, and in many prospects, efficient, wavelet color image codec (WCIC) is introduced. This codec allows to achieve high compression ratios with little degradation in visual quality. WCIC simultaneously exploits several characteristics of the wavelet transforms (multiresolution decompositions). Wavelet transform is formed using wavelet packets via lattice structures. Bit allocation algorithm is developed to distribute the bits between and in the colors such that minimal mean-squared-error (MSE) is introduced in each color component. This proves to be beneficial at low bit rates which keeps the color distribution in balance. The wavelet coefficients are quantized using either trellis or zero-tree quantizers depending on their statistics. Quantized coefficients are further compressed with adaptive arithmetic coding resulting in the final coded bit stream. This codec is applied to a wide range of images, from computer animations to natural pictures. The results are compared to other algorithms, including fractals and JPEG, and relative merits of the proposed algorithm are presented.

In order to generate a variety of innovative 3D animation modelings automatically, an improved cellular genetic algorithm was proposed in this paper. ACIS rule expressions were used to scale the existing 3D animation modelings unevenly in the x-axis, y-axis and z-axis direction separately in this algorithm, and tree coding was adopted for the generation and evolution of ACIS rule expressions. Due to the difficulty that there was no uniform evaluation criteria determining the creative design, human-computer interaction was adopted which used expert knowledge to determine the fitness function value of individuals. An innovation system of 3D animation modelings is developed, and the experiments in the system show that the improved cellular genetic algorithm can generate a series of 3D animation creative modelings.

This paper inducts genetic algorithm into fuzzy clustering by using its searches randomly and parallelism. It solves the locality and the sensitiveness of the initial condition of fuzzy C-means clustering. A tree encoding scheme which is proper for the fuzzy clustering algorithm is determined to this improved algorithm. At the same time, this algorithm is designed in detail and inducts this algorithm into the system of pattern recognition classification for stored producted insects. The results of experiments show that the proposed method is effective and feasible.
