Extended Approach to Analytical triangular decoupling Internal Model Control of Square Stable Multivariable Systems With Delays and Right-Half-Plane Zeros

The Analytical triangular decoupling Internal Model Control (ATDIMC) technique for 2 x 2 systems is generalized to n x n systems (n = 2) with delays and right-half-plane (RHP) transmission zeros. The formulation is done by first creating a triangular closed-loop transfer function matrix corresponding to the achievement of the triangular decoupling objective of restraining inverse-response and control-loop-interaction characteristics to a single plant output. Subsequently, the corresponding multivariable internal model controller is calculated, with transfer-function approximations made using an optimization algorithm that minimizes the Integral Time-Weighted Absolute Error (ITAE) of the difference between the step responses of the original and reduced expressions. It is shown that n ATDIMC designs emerge that achieve the shifting of inverse responses and interactions to a least-desired output, with delays retained for all outputs and asymptotic tracking of setpoints achieved for all n outputs of each design. To mitigate the possible effect of severe interaction on the least-desired output, a modification of this formulation is performed to spread inverse-response behavior to a second output, while minimizing the interaction of that output with the initial least-desired output. Simulation results for selected 3 x 3 and 4 x 4 systems show the effectiveness of these propositions.

For the class of general neutral multi delay systems with measurable and non-measurable (unknown) disturbances, the problem of triangular decoupling with simultaneous disturbance rejection, is studied via delayless dynamic and/or static controllers, feeding back the measurement outputs and the measurable disturbances. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the problem to have a solution via delayless dynamic controllers are established and the general form of the delayless dynamic controller matrices solving the problem are derived. For the delayless static controller case, the respective solvability conditions and general controller solutions are derived.

The Improved Inverted decoupling Technique of Chen and Zhang (2007) for square, stable multivariable systems with right-half-plane zeros is modified to achieve triangular decoupling for two-input, two-output systems with single right-half-plane zeros. The different cases of the 1-2 configuration of Inverted decoupling are used to provide multiple options of possible choices of triangularly decoupled apparent processes. The shifting of inverse responses and interactions is achieved to a single less-desired output, with both controlled variables asymptotically tracking corresponding setpoints. The decoupling Internal Model Control (DIMC) technique is modified to achieve triangular decoupling for a class of two-input, two-output systems with delays. The closed-loop transfer function matrix that guarantees stability and triangular decoupling within the IMC framework is mathematically developed, and the corresponding centralized decoupling internal model controller calculated for systems with delays and right-half-plane zeros. The shifting of inverse responses and interactions is achieved to a single least-desired output so that for non-minimum-phase (NMP) two-input, two-output (TITO) systems with delays, one output has some delay but has no interacting behaviour or inverse response behaviour, while the less-desired output has substantial interaction and inverse response behaviour, with asymptotic tracking of setpoints for both outputs. In this paper, the static state feedback triangular block decoupling problem for a general system described by (A, B, C, D) quadruples is studied. Necessary and sufficient conditions which are numerically verifiable are obtained and a numerically reliable decoupling method is established in the state space. Two examples are solved by our method which show the effectiveness.

Conditions for triangular decoupling control

The main purpose of this article is to explore the relationship of two existing conditions for the triangular decoupling problem. The first one is the triangular-diagonal-dominance condition proposed by Hung and Anderson. The second one is the stable coprime factorisation-described condition proposed by Gomez and Goodwin, which has been proven as a necessary and sufficient condition for the triangular decoupling problem. This article proves that the two conditions are actually equivalent. It also provides easy-to-use criteria for assessment of the solvability of the triangular decoupling problem.

In a related article, we derived a canonical decomposition of the right invertible system (C, A, B) and applied this canonical decomposition to study the Smith form of the matrix pencil P(s) = ((A - sl)(C) (B)(0)) and findout the finite zeros and infinite zeros of P(s), the range of the ranks of P(s) for s is an element of C, and the controllability of the right invertible system. In this paper, we will apply this canonical decomposition of the right invertible system (C, A. B) to deduce the triangular decouple upon to row permutation, provide some new results of the row-by-row decoupling, and associated pole assignment problems. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd.
