In this paper we have analyze power efficiency of advanced modulation formats over Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel. The advanced modulation formats are polarization division multiplexing quadrature phase shift keying (PDM-QPSK), polarization switched quadrature phase shift keying (PS-QPSK) and six polarization quadrature phase shift keying (6P-QPSK) and these modulation formats are investigated with forward error correction channel coding like turbo coding and Trellis Coded Modulation channel coding schemes.

In this paper, we study the speech user performance of selected parallel interference cancellation (PIC) algorithms in a single-cell high speed uplink packet access (HSUPA) system. To combat intersymbol interference (ISI), single-user chip-level minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) equalizer is used to detect the data users. PIC is applied to suppress the interference from data users to speech users, and RAKE to detect the speech users. As an input to the PIC stage, we may use the hard or soft symbol decisions (HD, SD) from the data users' demodulator or decoder outputs. The latter requires re-encoding of the decoded symbols. This adds to complexity, but increases also the reliability of the interference estimates. Results and analysis are provided for both ideal and MMSE channel estimation (CE). We show that the combination of PIC and RAKE outperforms the simple MMSE equalization in all studied cases. Using re-encoded soft symbol decisions for interference estimate calculation always leads to the best performance. However, in some scenarios the performance loss due to using the soft symbol decisions from the demodulator output is almost negligible.

In this paper, a joint tracking and decoding algorithm is proposed for MIMO channels. This algorithm is based on a super trellis structure which calculates new estimations of the channel matrix;moreover to calculation of a new metric for each node of the trellis. This algorithm for each branch of the trellis diagram of convolutional encoder, calculate matrix estimation by ML channel tracking algorithm [1]. The proposed algorithm is simulated for 1/2 rate convolutional code and 2x2 MIMO channel for different values of Doppler frequencies and E-b/N-0. Bit error rate (BER) and channel tracking error are considered as comparison criteria and it is shown that its performance is good and channel tracking curves have always negative slope even in blind mode of the operation. The more simulations with more efficient channel models will be presented in full version of the paper.

The LTE standard uses three different modulation schemes to adapt to various channel conditions in order to improve achievable data rates. These modulation schemes are the QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM. This paper presents an overview of a LTE digital communication system Simulink model, designed in order to study the effects of the QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM modulation schemes on the BER performance with an AWGN channel model. Different subsystems within the transmitter and receiver blocks are implemented in Simulink. It is noted that the LTE system uses turbo channel coding and bit-level scrambling to offer reliable and secure services to the users. Depending on the assumed channel condition (clear, medium clear or noisy), the 64-QAM, 16-QAM or QPSK modulation scheme, on the transmitter side;as well as the corresponding demodulation scheme, on the receiver side;are automatically selected. Based on the recovered data bits, the obtained bit error rates are analyzed, compared and discussed.

This paper proposes a new multi-carrier signal format for spectrally efficient frequency division multiplexing (SEFDM) system to further improve the spectral efficiency, where a Hilbert pair is utilised as pulse-shaping filters. In this work, the square-root raised cosine (SRRC) pulse is employed to generate the Hilbert pulse pair at the transmitter and an equivalent matched filter configuration is used to generate the receiver Hilbert pair. To verify the data rate gain of the proposed system, we generate the mathematical models and carry out simulations with varying compression factor of the SEFDM signals. The numerical modelling results show that the proposed system doubles the data rate relative to conventional SEFDM system with no bit error rate (BER) performance degradation. In addition, results are reported for un-coded transmission and also for system using turbo coding, showing significant BER improvement.

Distributed Video coding has become increasingly popular in recent years among the researchers in video coding due to its attractive and promising features. DVC proposed a dramatic structural change to video coding by shifting the majority of complexity conventionally residing in the encoder towards the decoder. Nevertheless, these kinds of architectures have some serious limitations that hinder its practical application. The uses of a feedback channel between the encoder and the decoder requires an interactive decoding procedure which is a limitation for certain applications such as offline processing. On the other hand, the decoder needs an efficient way to estimate the probability of error without assuming the availability of the original video at the decoder. In this paper we investigate a first approximation to solve both problems based on the use of machine learning to extract the knowledge that exits between the residual frame and the number of requests over this feedback channel. Exploiting this correlation gives us a more practical architecture without higher complexity encoders. We apply these concepts to pixel-domain Wyner-Ziv coding and the results show a loss of 0.21 dB in the rate-distortion performance.

In this study, it is recommended to use turbo channel coding (TC) technique to increase the performance of optical single carrier frequency domain channel equalizer (OSC-FDCE) used to repair the data that is distorted in multipath optical channel environment of single carrier (SC) visible light communication (VLC) systems. Computer simulations are performed to verify the performance of the proposed turbo-coded OSC-FDCE method in the 5, 6, and 10 taps multipath optical channel environment based on the bit error rate (BER) performance criterion. From the obtained simulation results, it is seen that the error base of the OSC-FDCE method is eliminated with TC OSC-FDCE method and has a better performance than TC VLC orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) frequency domain equalizer (FDE) method (TC VLC-OFDM-FDE).

DS-CDMA with frequency domain minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalization can provide much better performance than that with rake combining in a frequency selective fading channel. When frequency domain equalization is used, the frequency selectivity of the channel is thoroughly exploited. Chip interleaving is a form of channel interleaving that improves the DS-CDMA performance by converting the channel into a highly time selective channel. In this paper we apply chip interleaving to DS-CDMA with frequency domain MMSE equalization to see if the performance can be further improved. It is found that chip interleaving improves the performance for all channel conditions. In addition, chip interleaving is beneficial in the presence of turbo coding and antenna diversity as well.

In this paper, we evaluate the performance of single- and multi-antenna multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) downlink (base station to mobile terminal) systems in multi-cell environments. We first propose a minimum mean square error (MMSE) filter for a single input single output (SISO) MC-CDMA downlink system. Then, we apply it to a SIMO (single input multiple output) system with a conventional turbo coding. Furthermore, we compare the performance of SISO (1 x 1) and SIMO (1 x 2) MC-CDMA systems with that of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) (2 x 2) system employing space-time turbo coded modulation (STTuCM) in a multi-cell environment with 7 cells by computer simulation. Based on the computer simulation results, it is found that the considered MIMO system can achieve twofold capacity with the same transmission power in the multi-cell environment.

Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (CV2X) has recently piqued the interest of both industry and academia. CV2X extends communication coverage by using the cellular infrastructure as a standard for vehicular communication. CV2X also enables the communication between vehicles and pedestrians, vehicles and the cellular network, along with vehicle to vehicle communication. The CV2X standard's expectations are gradually rising as the number of vehicles, cell phone users, smart devices connected to vehicles, and other factors increase. A more efficient CV2X framework is needed to fulfill these expectations. We focused on the PHY layer of the CV2X standard and proposed a model featuring Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) code. Our experimental results suggest that our proposed model is able to improve reliability by reducing the bit error rate compared to the existing PHY layer framework. In addition, our proposed model can increase the throughput up to 1.4 times and 2 times at 10 MHz and 20 MHz channels, respectively.
