A Modified Method for Measuring Nonuniform Absolute Stress Field of Steel Members Using ultrasonic array sensor

The stress field of steel members in service is unevenly distributed under complicated loads. The existing single-path ultrasonic (SPU) sensors can only measure stress in a single measurement point and direction. Multiple operations of the SPU sensors are required to measure stress at different measuring points and directions. The approach has low measurement efficiency and increases the measurement deviations caused by multiple operations. In this study, a modified method using an ultrasonic array sensor to measure the nonuniform absolute stress field of steel members was proposed. The relationship between the acoustic time differences of the longitudinal critically refracted (LCR) waves and the plane stress field was revealed in this method. The acoustoelastic equations of the three directional acoustic time differences and the plane principal stresses were derived. An innovative ultrasonic array nonuniform absolute stress field measurement scheme was designed, which integrated an ultrasonic array sensor capable of transmitting and receiving five LCR waves. Nineteen sets of acoustic time differences were measured by arranging the array sensor in the 0 degrees, 45 degrees, and 90 degrees directions. Finally, the acoustic time differences were decoupled simultaneously to solve the acoustoelastic equation, thus achieving a nonuniform absolute stress field measurement of the steel member in service. The verification experiment indicates that the relative deviations of measurement stresses between the array sensor and strain gauges are less than 10%. Furthermore, the measurement accuracy and efficiency of the array sensor are higher than those of the SPU-LCR wave method and SPU-shear wave method, validating that the array sensor can rapidly and accurately measure the nonuniform absolute stress field of steel members.

We present an ultrasonic array sensor for reliable presence detection in indoor spaces. Short bursts of sinusoidal pulses are transmitted periodically from the sensor. The objective is to then determine presence of a user within the sensing region by processing the received echoes at the receiver array. Zones of movements are identified with coarse range and direction-of-arrival estimates using moving target indicator processing and conventional beamforming. Tracking is further applied on the resulting zone estimates to improve reliability of detection. Using a prototype implementation, we show that the proposed ultrasonic array sensor achieves better detection results compared to a state-of-art passive infrared sensor.

A UAV ground height measurement system based on ultrasonic array sensor and SINS/GPS is proposed. First, a new ultrasonic array sensor is designed. On the basis of the altitude of the last time, the height of the current time can be obtained with the acceleration and velocity information of SINS/GPS. Then, with the combination of the measurement height of ultrasonic array sensor to the federated information fusion. According to the working characteristics of the two systems, dynamic distribution coefficients are adopted. Finally, the simulation of the altitude measurement system is carried out. The simulation results show that the system can measure the height of UAV effectively and it has the application value in engineering.

Advanced sensing solutions are central in the realization of energy-efficient lighting systems. This paper presents an ultrasonic array sensor for localized presence sensing in indoor environments. Localized presence sensing refers to the determination of presence and locations of occupants. Our proposed sensing solution comprises of a single transmitter and a linear array of receiving elements. In order to meet presence sensing requirements in indoor office scenarios, a pulsed sinusoid transmitter waveform and receiver processing algorithms for location estimation are designed. The signals at the receiver array are processed to obtain range and direction-of-arrival estimates. These location estimates are improved using a tracking algorithm based on occupant movement models and by mitigating multipath effects. The performance of the proposed presence sensing solution is shown in multi-occupant office environments.

A new technique to locate the partial discharge (PD) in the transformer is presented in this article, which is based on the extended Multiple Signal Classification Method (MUSIC). The ultrasonic signal of PD is measured directly by the 6x6 ultrasonic phased array sensor and the array signal model is formed. The signal from the partial discharge source will be analyzed by the extended MUSIC algorithm. Then space position of PD source is realized by crossover location principle. Thus, one or even several PD sources in the transform can be located. The result of emulator program shows that this algorithm compared with MUSIC has a very high precision and resolution, especially for the sources that are closely positioned. Finally, the result of simulation based on 10x10 plane array sensor model vertifies the correctness of the new method.

Partial discharge of electrical equipment will seriously affect the equipment insulation. ultrasonic array sensor is a mature tool which is used to detect the partial discharge. We design a fixed device of sedenion and circular ultrasonic array sensor, that can meet the precision demands and fixed demands. The device with a suction cup fixtures we designed is easily to carry and use and it's stable.
