A pre/post-rake can be implemented for time division duplex code division multiple access systems using channel reciprocity. Here, a pre/post-rake structure, the combining weights of which are determined by singular value decomposition, is presented. A water-filling algorithm is applied to the proposed structure to achieve optimal capacity.

Dynamic Fractional Frequency Reuse based on an Improved water-filling for Network MIMO

In Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) systems, Inter-cell Interference (ICI) is a prominent limiting factor that affects the performance of the systems, especially at the cell edges. Based on the literature, Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR) methods are known as efficient interference management techniques. In this report, the proposed Dynamic Fractional Frequency Reuse (DFFR) technique improved the capacity and cell edge coverage performance by 70% compared to the Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR) technique. In this study, an improved power allocation method was adopted into the DFFR technique to reach the goal of not only reducing the ICI mitigation at the cell edges, but also improving the overall capacity of the LTE-A systems. Hence, an improved water-filling algorithm was proposed, and its performance was compared with that of other methods that were considered. Through the simulation results and comparisons with other frequency reuse techniques, it was shown that the proposed method significantly improved the performance of the cell edge throughput by 42%, the capacity by 75%, and the coverage by 80%. Based on the analysis and numerical expressions, it was concluded that the proposed DFFR method provides significant performance improvements, especially for cell edge users.

In this paper, we consider the problem of resource allocation (in terms of subcarrier, bit and corres- ponding power) for downlink transmission in multiuser OFDM system. An improved subcarrier and power allocation algorithm is proposed, which uses two steps to allocate recourses dynamically. Given the system's total power and BER, this algorithm tends to maximize the bit rate to make effective use of the resources. By using the greedy algorithm, this algorithm can get the maximum bit rate and reduce the power dissipation properly. The simulation result shows that this algorithm is better than the static allocation algorithm and has similar performance compared with the joint allocation algorithm, at the same time it has lower power dissipation.

Controller area network (CAN) is an in-vehicle communication network system. Many microcontrollers are built in vehicles that transmit and receive the data through CAN bus. As more microcontrollers are built in the car, the amount of data to be processed are increased. However, it is insufficient to process the increasing data because the maximum data rate of the standard CAN is 1Mbps. Therefore, we recently proposed a high data rate CAN system which combines the standard baseband CAN signal with a passband modulated signal. Before designing this system, the channel capacity analysis is needed to estimate the performance of the proposed scheme. This paper introduces the channel capacity analysis of the proposed scheme. In order to get the signal to noise power ratio (SNR) that is needed for capacity analysis, the standard baseband CAN noise is measured in a real car. Based on the SNR, water-filling algorithm is then employed for power allocation in the frequency domain, resulting in the channel capacity.

The dramatic increase in the amount of communicating antenna elements in Massive and Ultra-Massive MIMO systems on the one hand necessitates the application of the optimized (in case of multipath fading) power allocation strategies and on the other exploiting fast and efficient algorithms of channel correlation matrix estimation. The research addresses both problems by proposing a bordering procedure applied to the mercury/water-filling power allocation algorithm. The performed analysis demonstrated its sufficient dominance (in terms of overall system capacity) over the equal gain algorithm and insignificant loss, compared to the classic water-filling method. It was shown that bordering of the correlation matrix of Massive MIMO system up to pentadiagonal structures introduces insignificant capacity deviation, hence can be successfully exploited in practice for its estimation via fast recursive procedures.

The research investigates the data rates of a wide-band multi-user system by optimizing the phases of the reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) elements and performing fair power allocation for subcarriers. A practical beamforming codebook is developed to select the RIS configuration that maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). This guides the iterative power and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) algorithms for finding the optimal RIS configuration. The iterative power method is validated by comparing the achievable data rate and the computational complexity with the existing techniques in the literature. Simulation results revealed that the data rate performance of our proposed iterative power method is comparatively close to the known approaches such as the SDR and the strongest tap maximization (STM). Notably, our method exhibits superior performance to STM in non-line-of-sight (NLoS) channels, while also maintaining lower computational complexity compared to SDR.

Target's echoes from different radar transmitted waveforms can provide different target signatures.. As for adaptive radar, the transmitted waveforms are adaptive to the operational environment to acquire optimal performance. This paper presents a waveform synthesis method for adaptive radar based on a cascade of the water-filling algorithm and iterative least squares (LS) approach. The optimal energy spectrum density (ESD) of the synthesized waveform is obtained by the water-filling algorithm based on maximizing the mutual information (MI) criterion;the echo can then extract the maximum amount of target information. The iterative LS approach is used to synthesize the complex-valued waveform in time domain while the modulus of synthesized waveform remains constant, which is helpful for maintaining the transmitter efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed optimal waveform synthesis method is competent for adaptive radar.

Human Body Communication (HBC), which utilizes the human body as communication channel to convey health informatics, is a prospective communication technique for implantable and surface-mounted medical devices. In this article, we have applied Shannon's theorem to derive the channel capacity for the general galvanic coupling HBC channel. The channel characteristics and channel model of general galvanic coupling HBC channel are firstly discussed. Based on this channel model, the channel capacity is derived. By using the water-filling algorithm, the HBC channel capacity is estimated and the suitable frequency bands for low power data transmission in both on-body and in-body HBC channels are found. The results can provide suggestion for better system design.

Traditional basic oxygen furnace (BOF) prediction is usually dependent on experts and experiences which will result in deviation. Aiming at increasing the accuracy of endpoint carbon content prediction in BOF steelmaking, this paper proposes a data driven way called case-based reasoning (CBR) method to predict the endpoint carbon content of BOF steelmaking. In CBR, case representation is the basic, the selected attributes in case representation play an important role but dependent on expert experiences so that this paper uses lasso regression algorithm to get the attributes. Case retrieval makes a significant impact on reasoning result. Therefore, we apply affinity propagation (AP) clustering algorithm and water-filling algorithm to enhance the case retrieval so as to improve the accuracy and stability of endpoint carbon content prediction. Through the simulation experiment, the results show that the improved CBR can obviously improve the accuracy of endpoint carbon content prediction.

We investigate an energy harvesting based multi-source repeat-accumulate (RA) coded cooperative system. In particular, the relay is equipped with multiple antennas for information transmitting and energy harvesting. Firstly, the water-filling algorithm is adopted at the relay to allocate the harvested energy to multiple antennas. Secondly, the system employs RA coded and network coding. The outage probability and bit error rate (BER) of the system are analyzed. Simulation results show that the outage probability of the system adopting the water-filling algorithm outperforms that of the system adopting the optimal antenna selection algorithm or the equal power allocation algorithm. Furthermore, results also demonstrate that the performance of investigated system outperforms the corresponding point-to-point system under the same condition.
