This paper analyzes the impact of artificial intelligence in the workplace. Although the theoretical possibility of artificial intelligence applications for managerial, technical, and professional workplaces is significant, performance claims made by AI developers and vendors are at present quite exaggerated. Yet these unrealistic expectations of what AI can actually perform are part of a very real social change occuring in the meaning and status of mental work. Research based upon participant observer reports and analysis of published materials indicates that the spread of AI into professional and technical workplaces depends less upon the actual performance of present software than upon the outcome of organizational struggles over who can define whose work as the exercise of 'routine' expertise and who can successfully assert the claim that their mental activity involves an elusive, creative component that lies beyond the expanding subject matter of cognitive scientists, knowledge engineers, and AI system developers.

This paper presents an innovative technique of the IED interactive process visual analysis in the IEC61850 based smart substation. By parsing the data from the substation SCD configuration file to extract the data model needed for graphical dynamic analysis, the solution acquires the real-time communication data of substation according to the SMV, GOOSE and MMS messages. Using Java2 D technology, the solution interprets the information in a visual way of expression to generate time-sequentially progressive display automatically. Such graphical representation forms a complete record of the actions, and provides a simple and clear analyzing view of a complex and difficult to understand process.

Reporting the accuracy performance of pattern recognition systems (e.g., biometrics ID system) is a controversial issue and perhaps an issue that is not well understood [5, 7]. This work focuses on the research issues related to the oft used confidence interval metric for performance evaluation. Using a biometric (fingerprint) authentication system, we estimate the False Reject Rates and False Accept Rates of the system using a real fingerprint dataset. We also estimate confidence intervals of these error rates using a number of parametric (e.g., see [7]) and non-parametric (e.g., bootstrapping [1, 3, 6]) methods. We attempt to assess the accuracy of the confidence intervals based on estimate and verify strategy applied to repetitive random train/test splits of the dataset. Our experiments objectively verify the hypothesis that the traditional bootstrap and parametric estimate methods are not very effective in estimating the confidence intervals and magnitude of interdependence among data may be one of the reasons for their ineffective estimates. Further we demonstrate that the resampling the subsets of the data samples (inspired from moving block bootstrap [4]) may be one way of replicating interdependence among the data;the bootstrapping methods using such subset resampling may indeed improve the accuracy of the estimates. Irrespective of the method of estimation, the results show that the (1 - alpha) 100% confidence intervals empirically estimated from the training set capture significantly smaller than (1 - alpha) fraction of the estimates obtained from the test set.

A new hybrid pixel array detector, the ePix100, has been developed at SLAC for tender and hard x-ray experiments at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). It is intended for low noise and good spatial resolution applications, particularly X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS) and in combination with wavelength dispersive spectrometers. The detector has 50 μm pixel size and less than 100 e- r.m.s. noise over the range of tested operating conditions. A series of measurements to validate its performance with x-rays was carried out at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) and LCLS. Results are here reported and discussed.

With the progress of rising standard of people's leisure activity, tourism has become an important entertainment in people's spare time. Thus, purchasing tourist souvenirs is regarded as an integral part of sightseeing process. From the view of Macau tourism creative souvenirs market, this study aims to explore the characteristics of Macau creative tourism souvenir development and sales, summarize the current development and present situation of Macau tourism souvenir market and discuss its development situation. On the basis of this exploration, the study also investigates the possibility of developing a Macau themed tourism souvenir and put forward the development strategy for the optimization of Macau tourism market to make theoretical support and practical contributions.

This paper develops the analytical techniques for the scattering problem of a conducting finite helix. We focus on the resonant behavior of the helix because near the resonance frequency, the effective Chirality parameter strongly depended on the wave performance. Also we develop the theory used for a moment method to solve for the currents on a helix antenna. We present an efficient analysis of a helix antenna by using a moment method. The electric field integral equation is used with the moment method to solve for the currents on the antenna. The triangle basis and pulse testing functions exactly follow the contour of the helix antenna.
