In this paper, we investigate Residue Number System (RNS) to decimal conversion for moduli sets with common factors. First, we propose a new RNS to decimal converter for the moduli set {2n+2, 2n+1, 2n} for any integer n > 0, which is a generalization of a recently proposed reverse converter for this moduli set. Second, we provide a general 4-moduli RNS conversion scheme and then present a compact form of multiplicative inverses, valid for odd-n, for the moduli set {2n+3, 2n+2, 2n+1, 2n}. This extended moduli set increases the dynamic range and the processing parallelism enabling efficient conversion.

Out of hundreds of as-fabricated back-gated carbon nanotube field effect transistors we made, five devices which exhibit indiscernible hysteresis are found. The cause of these hysteresis-free devices is investigated based on the energy band and interface trap theory, and it is attributed to the bundling effect of single-walled carbon nanotubes which will result in a reduced bandgap in the single-walled carbon nanotube bundle compared with an isolated semiconducting carbon nanotube. A specific requirement of the SWNT bundle to satisfy the presumed explanation is also proposed.

This paper presents a novel speed control scheme of an Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) using fuzzy logic controller considering variable direct and quadrature axis inductances. The fuzzy logic controller (FLC) has been designed on the basis of indirect vector control scheme of the IPMSM drive. The complete vector control scheme of the IPMSM drive incorporating the FLC is simulated for a IPMSM using Matlab/Simulink. The performances of the proposed FLC based IPMSM drive are investigated and compared to those obtained from the maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) based drive at various dynamic operating conditions, such as, certain change in command speed, step change in load, etc. The comparative results show that the FLC is more robust and, hence, found to be a suitable replacement of the MTPA control for the high performance industrial drive applications.

A low-voltage low-power CMOS Sigma-Delta Modulator (SDM) is presented. The influence of a dynamic latched comparator on the performance of the SDM are studied with the help of SPICE simulations. SPICE BSIM4 models are used to study the transient behaviour of the overall circuit. The latched comparator is devised to be used to detect very small differential signals in the presence of large common-mode signals. An 8-bit second-order Sigma-Delta Modulator is used to demonstrate the limitations and potential, solutions associated with the use of the latched comparator. The aim of this study is to use such an ADC in the CMOS imagers to be realized in a low-cost standard digital process technology. Another aim of this study is to utilize an identical design layout of the latched comparator to quantize the full-scale range of signals (LSB to MSB).

Determination of protein structural class is a quite meaningful topic in protein science, because a priori knowledge of a protein structural class can provide useful information about its overall structure. The results of most previous studies used high homologous dataset with four structural classes should not be perceived as reliable, because the sequence homology has very significant impact on the prediction accuracy. Using a rigorous dataset with only less than 20% sequence identity to each other, this paper developed a novel pseudo amino acid composition method (PseAA) approach by incorporating protein evolutionary conservation information, amino acid physicochemical properties and statistical information to predict seven structural classes. Comparing with another PseAA method, the overall accuracy of our multi-feature information fusion method is 4.6% higher than that of the method of autocorrelation function of amino acid RICJ880103 in jackknife test. The results indicate that multi-feature information fusion including evolutionary information is effective and robust for the prediction of protein structural class with low sequence identity dataset, and can be effectively complemented with functional domain composition method.

The aim of this work was to describe a new method for optical monitoring of solutes in a spent dialysate. The method utilizes UV light absorption employing a commercially available spectrophotometer. Measurements were performed both on collected dialysate samples and on-line. The concentration of several removed solutes and electrolytes in the serum and in the dialysate was determined simultaneously using standard laboratory techniques. During on-line monitoring the spectrophotometer was connected to the fluid outlet of the dialysis machine. On-line measurements during a single hemodialysis session demonstrated a possibility to monitor deviations in the dialysator performance (e.g. dialysator in bypass). The experimental results indicated a good correlation between UV absorption and several removed solutes (urea, creatinine) in the spent dialysate. The correlation coefficient for urea and creatinine concentrations in the dialysate was very high for every individual treatment. The UV absorbance correlates well to the concentrations of several solutes thought to be uremic toxins. The results indicate that the technique can be used as a continous, on-line method for monitoring deviations in the dialysator performance and may estimate the removal of the overall toxins. In the future, the new method will be used to evaluate parameters describing delivery of the prescribed treatment dose such as KT/V and Urea Reduction Rate (URR).

The study discussed the role of public libraries in promoting health awareness in Sultanate of Oman, as the study concluded that public libraries awareness degree of its role in health awareness is weak as(36.3%) of the sultanate's libraries offer some health services represented in availing little number of health information sources and manifestos and posters obtained by libraries from health organizations, in addition to holding some lectures and seminars about some health subjects like anti diseases or children's vaccination also some libraries provided first aids courses, but the libraries didn't use internet in providing services of promoting health awareness in the Sultanate, and of the most important health awareness obstacles libraries and their officials non awareness of its role in promoting health awareness and lack of budget and potentials of providing training courses of health information development to libraries or users, the study recommended that health awareness shall be incorporated under the library's objectives and services, and its annual plan includes some health services all the yearlong and calling some health organizations' members to deliver some lectures or providing training courses to users, and the library's website includes public health websites links.
