This paper presents a beneficial technique for dynamically generating intermediate target output(s) for use in the training of classifiers on sequentially presented data series. The effects on accuracy and generalizability are examined by pitting the new technique, signal melding, against several standard back propagation through time techniques and a feed forward technique, cascade correlation.

Challenging to graduate engineering education is extraordinary. Engineering schools must prepare PhD students to work in transnational settings, with scientists and researchers located across the globe, in order to increase the world's capacity for solving global problems and meeting human needs. This paper presents an innovative project, financed by the European Union, that aims at promoting quality research in aeronautics and global PhD education by fostering and financing Doctoral (PhD) level research, involving the participation of leading universities, research centres and the Air Traffic Management industry, through a collaborative research Network called HALA!. Experiments were carried out with a 1000 Watt - CO//2Laser, which produces a highly collimated beam of infrared light, having a definite wavelength (10. 6 mu m). With normal commercial hardening systems, irradiation times of less than 30 seconds can be achieved, and the otherwise necessarily long air drying times can be almost completely avoided. The varnish surfaces hardened in this way are of extremely good quality and in spite of the severe hardening conditions, free of flaws. At present, the method is limited to small surface areas.

Much has been deliberated lately on the adaptability of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) to transition into a Cloud-based paradigm. This divergence has been mainly attributed to enabling a dynamic design, larger spread and a more distributed control scheme for WSNs that are inherently static and data-centric. Thus, transitioning into a service-centric paradigm, with the “Cloud” as an enabler, seems appealing. In this paper we argue against the seemingly straight forward transition, and emphasize the pitfalls in transitioning WSNs to an inherently distributed architecture. We articulate on four grounds, temporal and spatial limitations, resilience measures, energy efficiency and functional decomposition. Sheer connectivity, as an intrinsic property that presents hindrances in all these factors, is addressed in light of each. Finally, we present insights into future progressions of WSNs that boosts their dynamic presence without impacting intrinsic design dimensions. This paper serves both as an analytic overview of current directions and hindrances, and an overview to where we can go next in remedy to current and projected bottlenecks in Cloud-based sensing systems.
