Using nationally representative workplace data we find the use of temporary agency workers (TAW) is positively associated with financial performance in the British private sector and weakly associated with higher sales per employee. However TAW is not associated with value added per employee. Employees in workplaces with TAW receive higher wages than observationally equivalent employees in non-TAW workplaces. But the presence of TAW in the employee's occupation is associated with lower wages for employees in that occupation. Furthermore, conditioning on wages, the presence of TAW at the workplace is associated with lower job satisfaction and higher job anxiety among employees. These findings are consistent with TAW having an adverse effect on employees' experiences at work, perhaps due a more labour intensive regime, one which is only partly compensated for with higher wages.

I KNOW that I am very ignorant, but old and unrepentant as I am I still live to learn from young people and watch their doings with delight, tho' may be they are sometimes a little previous. The argument behind Messrs. Harkins and Shadduck's letter (NATURE, December 18, p. 875) is doubtless irreproachable and unanswerable. Probably, therefore, I am more than stupid in being surprised at “the atom (presumably oxygen of mass 17) which is synthesised.” Suppose, however, that a poor errant molecule of fair hydrone were the stricken ‘atom,’ it might well be electrolysed and give OH=17 + H=1. Who will say me hay and make it clear that this cannot be? Uesanian orders are sometimes tall and the propinquity of the Wheat Pit may well have influenced the Chicago laboratory, just as Cambridge, being an apanage of Newmarket, is given over to racing competitions and so demoralises the whole of our educational system.

We consider a G-invariant star-product algebra (A) over cap on a symplectic manifold (M,omega) obtained by a canonical construction of deformation quantization. Under assumptions of the classical Marsden-Weinstein Theorem we define a reduction of the algebra (A) over cap with respect to the G-action. The reduced algebra turns out to be isomorphic to a canonical star-product algebra on the reduced phase space B. In other words, we show that the reduction commutes with the canonical G-invariant deformation quantization. A similar statement within the framework of geometric quantization is known as the Guillemin-Sternberg conjecture (by now, completely proved).

We analyze mathematical aspects related to general quantum Boltzmann machine models through representations of algebras and functional analytic techniques. In this context, based on algebraic formulation we show the existence of a symmetry group for a class of Hamiltonians based on generators of Clifford algebras and discuss its implications for the learning scheme. Also, we have developed a rigorous mathematical analysis that allows us to investigate issues related to the asymptotic behavior of quantum Boltzmann machines. Particularly, we obtain a lower bound of fidelity in terms of the upper limit of quantum relative entropy.
