This paper proposes a framework to measure the important metrics (throughput, delay, packet retransmits, signal strength, etc.) to determine Wi-Fi network performance of mobile robots supported by the Robot Operating Systems (ROS) middleware. We analyze the bidirectional network performance of mobile robots through an experimental setup in an indoor environment, where a mobile robot is communicating vital sensor data such as video streaming from the camera(s) and LiDAR scan values to a command station while it navigates an indoor environment through teleoperated velocity commands received from the command station. The experiments evaluate the performance under 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels with different placement of Access Points (AP) with up to two network devices on each side. The framework is generalizable to vehicular network evaluation and the discussions and insights from this study apply to the field robotics community, where the wireless network plays a key role in enabling the success of robotic missions in real-world environments.

The impact of the surface roughness on the gate tunneling and capacitance of ultra-thin gate dielectrics was studied. It was found that the surface roughness has a profound influence on the oxide reliability prediction and capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics. The distortion of the C-V curves was attributed to direct tunnelling and surface roughness in addition to series resistance effect.

The boron deposition is produced here by the reduction of boron trichloride downstream from a hydrogen discharge which avoids homogeneous nucleation of (BCl)//n solids. The discharge in the hydrogen stream is produced with a generator which can supply 200 watts of microwave energy at 2450 MHz in an air-cooled cavity. The substrate is independantly heated at temperature in the range 500-700 degree C. The deposition rates of amorphous boron lie in the range 50-800 A/min. They are studied as functions of the process parameters including substrate temperature, system pressure, reactant concentration, total gas flow and power dissipated in the discharge. In all these experiments, the distance between the BCl//3 inlet and the substrate was fixed. The influence of this distance (d) is also studied with different conditions of pressure and total gas flow.

A channel select filter is designed in particular for the 3.6 GHz range applications. The main function of the filter is to select a channel via a selecting voltage. It also provides a high gain for the selected bandwidth. The filter consists of an on-chip inductor in conjunction with an on-chip varactor. The varactor acts as a variable capacitor; the selecting voltage changes the junction capacitance of the varactor to shift the center frequency. The filter is implemented as an active BPF and provides about 5 dB gain for the selected bandwidth which operates on 1.8 Vdc. The gain and high passband selectivity are the results of the design of a high quality factor filter (few hundreds). A Q-enhancement circuit generates a negative impedance to compensate the low Q of the onchip inductor and provides further selectivity. The Q of this filter is also a function of an external control voltage (i.e., tunable Q). This option offers bandwidth settings for various applications in the selected frequency range. The filter also provides a simple implementation of the receiver as it replaces the off-chip front-end filter and the LNA.
