Due to the randomness and uncertainty of wind power, voltage fluctuation in large-scale wind power system should not be ignored. The stepped controllable shunt reactor (SCSR) is an effective method to regulate voltage within its limits in this paper. The physical structure and working principle of SCSR are analyzed in detail. Voltage control method of SCSR is proposed, which is based on the bus voltage fluctuation of high voltage side in transformer substation. Calculating method for each required capacity is given. Combined with actual engineering project, the stepped controllable shunt reactor (SCSR) is demonstrated to be applicative and effective. Its capacity can adjust automatically according to operating characteristics of wind power. It can maintain voltage of the controlled bus in modest bounds. It has effect on the safe and good quality operation in large-scale wind power system.

This paper investigates an H-infinity filtering problem for discrete-time networked systems with random delays. Under the assumption of no packet dropout, a new measurement model is presented to describe the measured data subject to random delays which are caused by the transmission between the sensor and the state estimator. Based on this model, a sufficient condition for the existence of the estimator is given in terms of the feasibility of a linear matrix inequality (LMI). The designed estimator guarantees the exponentially mean-square stability of the state estimation error system and satisfies the prescribed H-infinity performance. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The adsorption and desorption performance of C.I. Direct Red 13 and C.I. Direct Blue 6 on anionic exchange membrane were studied. The adsorption and desorption performances of anionic exchange membrane under different conditions were compared. The results showed that the adsorption accords with the pseudo-second dynamics model. Langmuir adsorption model could well describe adsorption processes. The addition of inorganic salt Na2SO4 in the dye solution had certain influence on the adsorption. The desorption percentage could reach above 80% using the mixture of ethanol, sodium chloride and water solution as desorbent, and the anionic exchange membrane could be reused.

A new group of end-to-end reliable event transfer schemes is introduced for sensor networks. In these schemes, reliable event delivery is considered rather than reliable delivery of data packets, since the ultimate goal is the detection of events in sensor networks. Reliable event transfer is critical in many applications. Therefore, the need for transferring the events in a reliable way coerced us to introduce a new group of end-to-end event transfer schemes, in sensor networks end-to-end reliable event transfer schemes can be categorized into two broad classes, as acknowledgement based and non-acknowledgement based. Our new schemes introduced in this paper are in acknowledgement based class. The performance of the proposed schemes is also evaluated for various application areas by simulation.

This paper presents a new variant of the multi-compartment Vehicle Routing Problem (MCVRP) with profits and time windows. This problem is called the selective MCVRP with time windows. In the proposed approach, a limited number of k vehicles with multiple compartment is available at the depot to serve a set of customers. Each vehicle has a limited capacity and each compartment contains one product. A customer is served only within a given time windows and when it is visited a profit is collected. Moreover, to the best of our knowledge, this problem is addressed for the first time. The goal of this research work is to determine a set of routes limited in length, such that a set of customers are visited within a given time windows, the total collected profit is maximized and the total routing cost is minimized. We present an hybrid metaheuristic to solve this problem.

First engineering and science formation units (blocks) of Tec21 competences-based model [1], defined by Tecnologico de Monterrey, include students solving a real challenge supported by knowledge obtained in modules on mathematics, physics, and computing. A new challenge "Design, construction and modeling of a water-powered rocket" was proposed for the F1007B "Modeling in Engineering with Conservation Laws" block. This challenge involves designing, modeling and construction of a rocket, powered by a jet of water due to the pressure of a hand pump. Students compete in teams to achieve the greatest distance with their rockets. The educational intention of this challenge is to enhance student learning experience by (1) Covering many more topics of Physics that can been applied by students (2) Improve students grades and professor evaluation, (3) Increasing the use of technology by incorporating the Tracker program for video analysis, (4) Enabling comparison of real results with those obtained through MATLAB modeling, and (5) Fostering enthusiasm among students by facilitating teams’ competition within the same class and even among different campuses. Considering the analysis made, it was observed that the water rocket contest helped most of the students to better understand the concepts of Physics included in this block and in the previous block, F1006B "Modeling the Movement in Engineering". The topics in this unit include the Principle of conservation of energy, the Principle of conservation of lineal momentum, Bernoulli’s Principle, Projectile motion and Air friction. A large percentage of students consider that this activity was good for using technological tools such as Matlab (72%) or Tracker (84%) and to compare theory with reality. A good number of students believe that this challenge helped them develop and implement solutions, demonstration of operation of engineering systems and devices, written language, and scientific thinking competences. It can be conclud
