Effective denoising of noise-corrupted speech signals remains a challenging problem. Existing solutions typically employ some combination of noise estimation and noise elimination, either by subtraction or by filtering. The estimation of noise and the denoising are generally treated as independent aspects of the problem. In this paper we propose a new neural-network-based approach for denoising of speech signals. The approach integrates noise estimation and denoising into a single network design, while maintaining many of the aspects of conventional noise estimation and signal denoising through a recurrent gated structure. The network thus operates as a single integrated process that can be trained to jointly estimate noise and denoise the speech signal with minimal artifacts. Noise reduction experiments on noisy speech, both with digitally added synthetic noise and real car noise, show that the proposed algorithm can recover much of the degradation caused by the noise.

Currently, Korean Coastal Traffic Control employs AIS(Automatic Identification System) and radar system to provide with coastline control, search, rescue support and ship traffic control in marginal sea areas. Since AIS is too costly for small vessels to be equipped with and due to Target Swapping effect and changes in detecting capacity resulting from variable sizes of ships and distance to the target, however, it seems imperative to find appropriate precautions to reduce sea traffic accidents. From these perspectives, this paper suggests a fundamental study of Vessel Traffic System development with the use of IP-RFID technology.

The competitive context in which the number of new audiovisual services increases requires taking user preferences into account to maintain the best possible quality of experience. The aim of the experiment presented in this paper is to study how standardized ITU subjective measures may be supplemented by physiological measurements. Subjective assessments (ITU-T P.920, P.911) and physiological measurements (Blood Volume Pulse, Temperature, Skin Conductance and Eye Tracking) are collected from 34 subjects viewing three different 2D audiovisual contents. Each content was presented under three different quality conditions: a reference one (without degradation) and two degraded ones (audio/video asynchrony or bitrates variations on audio and/or video). Results show an impact of quality variations on the subjective data but not on physiological measures. It might be explained by this first exploratory protocol (degradation, thresholds, content presentation layout, etc.) proposed to study audiovisual quality impact on physiological activity.

Mobile IP is an old protocol that has rarely been actively used. With the advent of IPv6, MobilelPv6 is intended to be an integral part of all systems. Will that be enough to bring Mobile IP into more active use? Or will the growth in the mobile device marketplace and the corresponding expansion of wireless infrastructure have that effect?This paper will investigate some of the issues that impact on the relevance of Mobile IP, and discuss some problems and possible solutions. In particular, an example of a rational usage case for Mobile IP, that fails, will be given along with a possible solution. The Department of the Defense has transitioned smart devices into the battlefield as a portable hand-held unmanned aerial vehicle ground control station without adequate cyber security protections, putting critical mission data at risk to cyber security attacks. Industry has developed software apps for smart phones and tablets that allows soldiers to not only pilot unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) but to share and receive intelligence and reconnaissance videos and images remotely from the ground control station (GCS) or directly from the UAV. The Department of Defense has not developed a secure communication network that will support a large quantity of smart devices, nor certification, standards or policies for operation of secure smart devices. Therefore, mission critical information will be shared through unsecured, mobile and wireless networks and through unclassified, unsecure smart technology that are vulnerable to cyber security risks. Lack of security of the mobile and wireless networks and smart devices could result in the unintentional sharing of data as well as loss of control of the UAV to enemies. The Department of Defense has failed to develop a threat model and risk assessment to identify the cyber security threats and ensure the proper security countermeasures are in place. This paper will analyze the cyber security vulnerabilities within the communication links, smart devices hardware, specifically smart phones and tablets, and software applications to develop a risk model of the threat profile of the GCS networking hub. This model will help designers and users of the military and civilian UAV communities to understand the threat profile of the GCS networking hub to develop a secure communication network based upon the vulnerabilities identified for smart phones and tablets.
