Recently the duplication closure of words and languages has received much interest. We investigate a reversal of it: the duplication root reduces a word to a square-free one. After stating a few elementary properties of this type of root, we explore the question whether or not a language has finite duplication root. For regular languages and uniformly bounded duplication root this is decidable. The main result then concerns the closure of regular and context-free languages under duplication. Regular languages are closed under bounded and uniformly bounded duplication root, while neither regular nor context-free language are closed under general duplication root.

Serverless computing platforms provide Function(s)-as-a-Service (FaaS) to end users while promising reduced hosting costs, high availability, fault tolerance, and dynamic elasticity for hosting individual functions known as microservices. Serverless Computing environments abstract infrastructure management including creation of virtual machines (VMs), containers, and load balancing from users. To conserve cloud server capacity and energy, cloud providers allow serverless computing infrastructure to go COLD, deprovisioning hosting infrastructure when demand falls, freeing capacity to be harnessed by others. In this paper, we present on a case study migration of the Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (PRMS), a Java-based environmental modeling application to the AWS Lambda serverless platform. We investigate performance and cost implications of memory reservation size, and evaluate scaling performance for increasing concurrent workloads. We then investigate the use of Keep-Alive workloads to preserve serverless infrastructure to minimize cold starts and ensure fast performance after idle periods for up to 100 concurrent client requests. We show how Keep-Alive workloads can be generated using cloud-based scheduled event triggers, enabling minimization of costs, to provide VM-like performance for applications hosted on serverless platforms for a fraction of the cost.

The optimization and simulation of the proposed MSF, MED- TVC, and RO desalination units are utilized by MATLAB language software. The thermodynamic assessment of a cogeneration nuclear desalination plant that is used to create a connection between both of the proposed multi-effect desalination system and the pressurized water reactor is conducted through the application of the Thermodynamic Optimization Program for Desalination (DE-TOP). The entire potential connection measures of the nuclear energy generation plant together with the desalination unit are tested for the energy control of a nuclear desalination facility. The process of simulation indicated a decline in the performance ratio of the MED-TVC plant when the top brine temperature increases. Moreover, there is a direct upsurge in thermal performance ratio of the MSF system against the entire number of stages. Inside of the RO plant, an increase in the level of water permeation takes place when the temperature of the feed water is raised. Additionally, a comparison is drawn in the cogeneration system between several top output parameters, e.g. net efficiency, total power requirement, and power lost ratio. These parameters varied from 33.504 % to 33.545 %, 4.1 to 5.3 MW(e), 9 % to 26.2 %, respectively.

This paper presents a novel approach to acquire dynamic whole-body movements on humanoid robots focused on learning a control policy for the center of mass. A policy-gradient method is used to acquire a CoM movement as a control policy for achieving a desired dynamic task. A CoM-Jacobian-based redundancy resolution is then used to compute angular velocities for all joints in order to achieve a whole-body movement consistent with the CoM movement acquired through learning. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, we apply it in simulation to the learning of a strong punching movement on the Fujitsu humanoid robot, Hoap-2.

N/sub 2/ pre-annealing at 900/spl deg/C for 20 minutes was effective to suppress undesirable sidewall oxidation of WSi/sub x/ in a tungsten polycide gate structure during post oxidation processing. Contact resistance measurements show that the N/sub 2/ pre-annealing improved the metal contact resistance on the gate while it degraded the tungsten polycide contact resistance on the gate. The contradictory effects on two contact resistances on the gate are attributed to Si out-diffusion from dichlorosilane-based tungsten silicide (DCS-WSi/sub x/) during N/sub 2/ pre-annealing. From experiment and simulation data, it is verified that the additional thermal budget of N/sub 2/ pre-annealing does not affect the device parameters of n- or p-MOSFETs at gate length L=10 /spl mu/m. It is considered that the segregation of fluorine (F) atoms from DCS-WSi/sub x/ on to the gate oxide caused the increase in threshold voltage (V/sub T/), the reduction of saturation current (I/sub DSAT/), and the increase in subthreshold slope of n-MOSFETs. However, no significant changes were observed in p-MOSFETs. On the other hand, the gate oxide characteristics were not degraded by N/sub 2/ pre-annealing.
