A large class of loop programs applied in solving differential equations, Fourier transforms, image processing and neural processing can be translated or rewritten into a vector execution form with a pi-block dependence graph, In the paper we propose a multithreading strategy to partition such vectorized loops into multithread execution form. Each partitioned thread consists of instances of statements with localities in vector registers. The multithreading scheme gives a novel combination of loop unrolling, statement instances reordering, index shifting, vector register reuse exploiting and multithreading. For some cases of loop program with pi-bloek dependence graph, experimental results show that our scheme assists vector compilers of the Convex C38 series to reduce the number of memory accesses and synchronizations among CPUs.

Objective: Executive functioning (EF) is critical for performance of instrumental activities of daily living, including medication management. Under complex conditions, daily activities require greater EF resources. This study examined if older adults who exhibit weaknesses in EF are at an increased risk for mismanaging their medications under complex contexts. Method: Participants were 50 non-Hispanic white community-dwelling older adults, ages 60-85. At a baseline visit, EF was assessed using the Push-Turn-Taptap task, and daily life complexity and medication regimen complexity were assessed using a structured interview. Medication management across the subsequent 8 weeks was assessed by weekly pill counts. Results: A general linear regression using at-home medication management as the dependent variable showed that EF and the interaction between EF and life complexity were significant predictors (both p values < .001). Specifically, life complexity had a deleterious impact on medication management, but only for older adults whose EF performance was in the bottom 22% of the sample. There was no association between medication regimen complexity and accuracy of medication management. Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that older adults who have even mild EF weaknesses are at an increased risk for mismanaging their medication when leading complex daily lives. These findings add support for the Contextually Valid Executive Assessment (ConVExA) model, which asserts that EF interacts with contextual factors as a predictor of functional outcomes.

The plague is an infectious bacterial disease having a high fatality rate without treatment. It has occurred in three huge pandemics since the 6(th) century with millions of deaths and numerous smaller epidemics and sporadic cases. Referring to specific clinical symptoms of pulmonary plague the disease became known as the Black Death. This pandemic probably originated in central Asia and began spreading westward along major trade routes. Upon the arrival in the eastern Mediterranean the disease quickly spread especially by sea traffic to Italy, Greece and France and later throughout Europe by land. Until the 18(th) century many European cities were frequently affected by other great plague epidemics. The worldwide spread of the third pandemic began when the plague reached Hong Kong and Canton in the year 1894. The gram-negative coccobacillus now designated as Yersinia Pestis has been discovered as the causative agent of plague in this Hong Kong outbreak. In the following years the role of rats and fleas and their detailed role in the transmission of plague has been discovered and experimentally verified. Today the plague is still endemic in many countries of the world.
