Accurate measurement of the quality of systems is crucial to building trustworthy systems. Such a measurement indicates whether a system is working properly and meeting its requirements. Although security and dependability metrics are regarded as key metrics for measuring the quality of systems, they are not sufficient for measuring the quality of systems that are placed in a multi-domain environment including hardware, software, network, human factors, and physical environments. In order to embrace multidimensional aspects of the quality of a system, we introduce a trustworthiness metric framework that supports three key submetrics of trust, resilience, and agility, and propose an ontology-based framework with three corresponding sub-ontologies. We also discuss how the key metrics are related to the severity of threats and the quality of assessment tools. This work is part of the cyber defense effort conducted by the Trustworthy Systems Working Group (TSWG) under the Cyber Strategic Challenge Group (CSCG) of The Technical Cooperation Program (TTCP), which is an international cooperation organization for enhancing defense science and technology.

The color reproducibility of two whole-slide imaging (WSI) devices was evaluated with biological tissue slides. Three tissue slides (human colon, skin, and kidney) were used to test a modern and a legacy WSI devices. The color truth of the tissue slides was obtained using a multispectral imaging system. The output WSI images were compared with the color truth to calculate the color difference for each pixel. A psychophysical experiment was also conducted to measure the perceptual color reproducibility (PCR) of the same slides with four subjects. The experiment results show that the mean color differences of the modern, legacy, and monochrome WSI devices are 10.94 +/- 4.19, 22.35 +/- 8.99, and 42.74 +/- 2.96 Delta E-00, while their mean PCRs are 70.35 +/- 7.64%, 23.06 +/- 14.68%, and 0.91 +/- 1.01%, respectively.

Advances in synthetic methods allow a wide range of semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) to be tailored in size and shape and to be used as building blocks in the design of NC solids. However, the long, insulating ligands commonly employed in the synthesis of colloidal NCs inhibit strong interparticle coupling and charge transport once NCs are assembled into the solids state as NC arrays. We will describe the range of short, compact ligand chemistries we employ to exchange the long, insulating ligands used in synthesis and to increase interparticle coupling. These ligand exchange processes can have a dramatic influence on NC surface chemistry as well as NC organization in the solids, showing examples of short-range order. Synergistically, we use 1) thermal evaporation and diffusion and 2) wet-chemical methods to introduce extrinsic impurities and non-stoichiometry to passivate surface traps and dope NC solids. NC coupling and doping provide control over the density of states and the carrier type, concentration, mobility, and lifetime, which we characterize by a range of electronic and spectroscopic techniques. We will describe the importance of engineering device interfaces to design NC materials for solar photovoltaics.

Tracking, partitioning and tracing in modern dynamic high performance computing systems are three of the most innovative and important development aspects for performance optimization purposes and state-of-the-art advanced quality. This paper discusses these three aspects with respect to distributed systems and proposes new mechanisms for an advanced utilization of software in this domain. We present a specific tracking mechanism via vector clocks for model and code partitioning purposes and the determination of causality relations. Further, a tracing approach for an effective analysis and thereby utilization of code and the corresponding architecture is introduced. The combination of both approaches leads to a high degree of parallelism and a fine-grained structure of execution units, that further traced, supports a precise analysis of synchronous and asynchronous system's behavior as well as an optimal load balancing. The mechanisms are introduced with respect to a model based control engineering tool and event diagrams.

In this paper, we investigate the effects of an additional trusted relay node on the secrecy of the degraded multipleaccess wiretap channel (DMAC-WT) by considering the model of the degraded multiple-access relay wiretap channel (DMARC-WT). Inner and outer bounds on the secrecy capacity regions of the DMARC-WT are provided for both the discrete memoryless and the Gaussian cases. For the Gaussian DMARC-WT, we find that in some particular cases, Tekin-Yener's achievable secrecy rate region of the Gaussian DMAC-WT is enhanced by using this trusted relay node.
