Infrared images are often contaminated by much noise, thus it is significant to denoise the infrared image. An effective denoising method is presented in this paper. The infrared images are assumed with strong zero-mean white and homogeneous Gaussian adaptive noise. Focus on denoising image with high noise level, firstly, the image is denoised via sparse representation over an adaptive redundant dictionary. The dictionary is trained by applying K-means Singular Value Decomposition (K-SVD) algorithm on the down-scaled noisy image. Secondly, a double-scale denoising is added to improve the denoised results. The experimental results indicate that this method could obtain a better performance when noise level is high.

The GREENS workshop provides a forum for practitioners and academics to share knowledge, ideas, practices and current results related to green and sustainable software engineering. The goal of GREENS 2013 is to discuss emerging research and the state of industrial practice, and to define a roadmap, both for academic research and for technology exchange with industry. Topics range from bringing sustainability and energy efficiency into all software lifecycle stages, to green measures and estimations, practices, notations, and tools to both greening the software engineering process, and greening the resulting ICT systems. To ensure high quality papers and presentations, all submissions were reviewed by at least three program committee members whose identity was not revealed to any of the authors. The reviewers did not review papers for which they had a conflict of interest. In particular, none of the organizers participated in the review process, and in case of direct or indirect conflict of interest they have been excluded from the selection process. Out of the 13 full paper submissions, 9 full papers were accepted. Besides, two papers were invited for publication and presentation at the workshop. The workshop dedicates most of its program to discussion. After a keynote and short presentations and discussions of each paper, facilitated working sessions will discuss the most interesting topics as identified by the attendees.

An efficient way to combine WDX and EDX spectral information in the same analysis which results in improved detection limits and precision of the EDX data is suggested. It is accomplished through absorption filtration of the EDX spectrum by using either mylar or aluminum filters, and analyzing those absorbed elements with WDX. The resulting reduction in EDX count rate is regained by increasing the solid angle of the detecting crystal-integrating a larger number of x-rays which provides better counting statistics.

In this paper, we investigate whether the "out of body" tactile illusion can be extended or applied to a relatively large hand-held device such as a tablet for which the hands/fingers would not be in direct contact with the vibration motors. We derived guidelines for applying tactile illusion techniques in 2D space with regards to operational conditions such as the size of the device, holding position, minimally required vibration amplitudes, and the effects of matching visual feedback. For this purpose, a series of exploratory pilot experiments were first conducted in 1D space. Based on the results, a 2D illusory tactile rendering method was devised and tested for its effectiveness. We have found that for a tablet sized device (e. g. iPad mini and iPad), the illusory perception was possible with a rectilinear grid resolution of 5 x 7 ( with a grid size of 2.5 cm) with matching visual feedback.

Determination of protein structural class is a quite meaningful topic in protein science, because a priori knowledge of a protein structural class can provide useful information about its overall structure. The results of most previous studies used high homologous dataset with four structural classes should not be perceived as reliable, because the sequence homology has very significant impact on the prediction accuracy. Using a rigorous dataset with only less than 20% sequence identity to each other, this paper developed a novel pseudo amino acid composition method (PseAA) approach by incorporating protein evolutionary conservation information, amino acid physicochemical properties and statistical information to predict seven structural classes. Comparing with another PseAA method, the overall accuracy of our multi-feature information fusion method is 4.6% higher than that of the method of autocorrelation function of amino acid RICJ880103 in jackknife test. The results indicate that multi-feature information fusion including evolutionary information is effective and robust for the prediction of protein structural class with low sequence identity dataset, and can be effectively complemented with functional domain composition method.
