We present the results of comparing three different implementations of the microscopic diffusion process in the stellar evolution codes CESAM and CLES. For each of these implementations we computed models of 1.0, 1.2 and 1.3 M circle dot. We analyse the differences in their internal structure at three selected evolutionary stages, a's well as the variations of helium abundance and depth of the stellar convective envelope. The origin of these differences and their effects oil the seismic properties of the models are also considered.

Within the framework of the Global Mercury Observation System (GMOS), we are monitoring gaseous elemental mercury (Hg(0)) at the Dome Concordia Station to improve our understanding of atmospheric Hg in the Antarctic atmosphere. This French-Italian facility is located in one of the coldest places on the planet and is situated on the vast Antarctic Plateau at an elevation of 3320 m. Continuous measurements began on December 7, 2011 and are ongoing. The median value calculated over the period (n=24506) is approximately 0.9 ng/m3 and values range from < 0.1 ng/m(3) up to 2.3 ng/m(3). Preliminary results suggest that the Antarctic atmospheric boundary layer is a very reactive place during the periods when sunlight is present. A combination of fast and efficient oxidation processes with snow photochemistry lead to a dynamic record of Hg(0) unlike any other location. Our improved understanding of these processes will help to better constrain the cycle of Hg in the Southern Hemisphere.

Through stress-controlled fatigue testing under different stress amplitudes, effects of stress amplitude on the fatigue life and crack propagation mechanism of the extruded Mg-3Al-2Sc alloy were investigated. The results show that, within the stress range of 13.5 similar to 82.5 MPa and stress ratio of 0.2, the fatigue life of the alloy decreases and growth rate of fatigue crack increases with increasing stress amplitude. Cleavage fracture mode dominates the crack initiation area and stable crack propagation area. For the final rapid fracture area, the fatigue fracture is combined mode of semi-cleavage and cleavage as well as intercrystalline fracture.
The use of a screw pile in building foundations results in turbulence in the surrounding of the pile. The actual area of soil turbulence cannot be easily evaluated due to the difficulty in accessing the area beneath t...

We recently developed a cation-exchange process and using it obtained high-quality epitaxial Hg-based high-temperature superconducting films. Unlike the conventional thermal-reaction process that needs to comply with the stringent requirements of chemical phase equilibrium, cation exchange was found to be a simple kinetic process that can be carried out in a large processing window based on the principle of atomic perturbation. Since this process can be carried out in a large processing window of the Hg-vapor partial pressure, we further developed a batch process for scaling up Hg-HTS tapes in long length and a crucible technique for scaling up to large area.
