Using admissibility in the analysis of the multiple-model, finite-horizon, discrete-time LQG problem, a family of lower and upper bounds of the minimum expected cost is obtained. Some earlier results are shown to be related through admissibility and bounds. The OLFO control is generalized to a closed-loop, optimum feedback linear policy (OFLP) control. A randomized linear control policy (RLCP) method of approximating the optimal solution is developed. The learning nature of the controller about the true but unknown model is embedded in the computations of the expected cost by enlarging the class of control policies, from deterministic to stochastic. The randomized controls for the future stages are used to obtain the deterministic control for the current stage. Because of the linearity of the control policies in RLCP, it is possible to obtain analytically an approximate value of the expected cost as a function of control, for each fixed RLCP. This analytically computed cost is also bounded below and above by some appropriate bounds.

A cryogenic noise source (CNS) that was cooled by liquid nitrogen was constructed and evaluated in the 8-12 GHz frequency range (the WR-90 waveguide band). A noise temperature of the CNS requires a correction with respect to the boiling point of liquid nitrogen, depending on loss and temperature distributions of a transmission line. We have investigated the transmission line correction factor (TLCF) of the CNS with a sliding short method using a total-power radiometer that is suitable for broadband measurements. The equivalent noise temperature was 79.56-82.90 K, with an uncertainty of 3.89-6.13 K (k = 2). A comparison of the noise temperature that is obtained by the radiometer with two calibrated noise sources proved the validity of the TLCF.

We study a spectrum allocation game where K cognitive radio systems compete for a number of free resource blocks in frequency domain. In particular, we concentrate on the impact of the perturbations in the payoff functions and the problem of equilibrium selection. Based on the simulated data throughput, we first address the problem of designing an appropriate spectrum allocation game. Our study shows that if we can persistently increase the accuracy of the simulation results, we are able to find the approximate Nash equilibria, which are arbitrarily close to the Nash equilibria of the real spectrum allocation game. Then, we study the problem of equilibrium selection, where we exploit the concepts of payoff dominance and the focal-point effect to select a unique Nash equilibrium. At last, we demonstrate the performance of the spectrum allocation game in an LTE system context.
