The first investigation of the effect of mesa plated sidewall heatsinks on the performance of red oxide-confined vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) is reported. Single mode (SMSR>20dB) visible (670 nm) VCSELs were fabricated with an AlGaInP active region and AlGaAs distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs). Copper is electroplated on and around VCSELs with different mesa diameters with a variety of overlap sizes. A trend of reduction in thermal impedance for some devices has also been observed with increasing the plating overlap size.

Different dielectric substrates can be used to fabricate microstrip patch antenna. So we need to select the substrate which gives better performance. In this paper, the performance of staircase shaped microstrip patch antenna is analyzed for 4 different substrates. The antenna is designed to operate in KU band (12-18GHz). The design frequency is taken as 15GHz and the height of all 4 dielectric substrates is kept constant at 1.6mm. The patch is designed using Zeland IE3D simulator. Comparison is done for antenna parameters such as Return Loss, VSWR, Gain, Directivity, Bandwidth, Radiation Efficiency and Antenna Efficiency. Co-axial probe feeding technique is used. RT Duroid gives the best performance with Return Loss of -23.46dB, Directivity of 8.38dBi, Gain of 4.85dBi and Bandwidth of 1.82GHz.

3D viscous numerical simulation of internal flow field in a radial air turbine was investigated under the design condition by using CFD software FINE™/Turbo. The effects of two kinds of geometry shapes on the aerodynamic performance and secondary flow were analyzed in detail. The results indicate that, compared to the original, the efficiency of impeller with curved blades is evidently increased, and can meet the requirement according to the system parameters design. There are complicated flow phenomena in the flow of the rotor. By using the proper curved blades, the separation loss can be weakened and higher aerodynamic performance can be achieved. The achievements obtained from this paper would provide information for further engineering design of air turbine with optimal performance.
