Recent developments in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SCFDE) have sparked debate about the superiority of one method over the other. In this paper, we further this debate by comparing the theoretical performance of OFDM and SCFDE when each is implemented in one of two different multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) architectures: spatial multiplexing and space-time block codes. This study focuses on the use of MIMO-OFDM and MIMO-SCFDE in wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. Performance is given in terms of the packet error rate (PER) and the throughput of the systems.

Adsorption isotherms have been measured on cleaned silver powder from 178 to 399 C at oxygen pressures of 0. 226 Pa to 40 kPa using a vacuum ultramicrobalance. Adsorption equilibrium are found at all temperatures and pressures studied. The surface is prepared for the reproducible chemisorption studies and cleaned before the determination of each isotherm by an established method. Seven isotherms are measured that spanned the fraction of the surface covered theta from 0. 17 to 1. 0. The isosteric heat of adsorption q is determined by application of the Clausius - Clapeyron equation at constant values of theta . From theta of 0. 17 to 0. 33 q decreases from 42 to 17. 7 kcal/mol;it remains constant at 18. 4 plus or minus 0. 8 kcal/mol from theta of 0. 33 to about 0. 90, and then decreases to zero at the highest coverages and temperatures.

Enterprise Architecture (EA) is managed, developed, and maintained by Enterprise Architecture Implementation Methodology (EAIM). There is ineffectiveness in existing EAIMs due to the complexities;these complexities come from EAIM's processes, models, methods, and strategy. Consequently, EA projects may be faced with lack of support in the following parts of EA: requirement analysis, governance and evaluation, a guideline for implementation, and continual improvement of EA implementation. This research aims to represent an Agent-Oriented based EAIM. The proposed EAIM was evaluated by means of a case study. The results show that proposed EAIM could directly affect the effectiveness of EA implementation in following items: reducing the mismatch between business and IT, defining reachable goals for enterprise, employing easy implementation practices and easy learning procedure, using efficient documentation, applying appropriate communication among project team member, providing an effective environment for alignment of business and IT, and using effective plan for governance and migration plan. This research extends the application of Agent Technology, which provides new area of research for academics and provides effective EAIM, which can be employed by practitioners in EA project.

Optical probes based on multichannel spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) have been applied at all stages of the development of CdS/CdTe thin film photovoltaics (PV). Real time SE during materials fabrication has provided insights into nucleation, coalescence, and structural evolution of CdS and CdTe films. The deduced optical properties have provided insights into material density, strain, and defect density. The optical properties have also served as a database for analyzing complete PV stacks. Applications of this database include depth profiling of materials and devices before and after CdCl 2 treatment, as well as off-line mapping and on-line monitoring of large area PV plates and modules.

With the wider deployment of automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems, the importance of robust speech activity detection has been elevated both as a means of reducing bandwidth in client/server ASR and for overall system stability from barge-in through the recognition process. In this paper we investigate a novel technique for speech activity detection, that we have found to be effective in handling non-stationary noise events without negatively impacting the recognition process. This technique is based on combining acoustic phonetic like-lihood based features with energy features extracted from the signal waveform. Reported results on two speech activity detection tasks demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms techniques which rely solely on acoustic or energy features.

The problem of robust sparse coding is considered. It is defined as finding linear reconstruction coefficients that minimize the sum of absolute values of the errors, instead of the more typically used sum of squares of the errors. This change lowers the influence of large errors and enhances the robustness of the solution to noise in the data. Sparsity is enforced by limiting the sum of absolute values of the coefficients. We present an algorithm that finds the path traced by the coefficients when the sparsity-inducing constraint is varied. The optimality conditions are derived and included in the algorithm to speed its execution. The proposed method is validated on the problem of robust face recognition.
