In this paper, a novel dual-band MIMO monopole antenna for 5G applications is presented. The proposed MIMO antenna is made up of two rings that are T-shaped, generating two distinguished bands: the N77 band and the 6 GHz 5G band. A Tshaped ground branch with a bottom slit is integrated into the ground plane to mitigate the mutual coupling at lower and higher operating bands by redistributing the current, thus improving the isolation enhancement. A reversed T-shaped grounded parasitic element with extra grounded parasitic elements on the partial ground is inserted on top of the substrate, between the MIMO elements. The grounded process is introduced by inserting two metallic vias in each branch of the parasitic element. These parasitic elements effectively reduce the coupling between the MIMO antennas by restricting the current to the respective antenna, thus improving the isolation at the higher band. To verify the design principle of the suggested MIMO antenna, this latter is manufactured and tested. It exhibits excellent impedance matching and high isolation characteristics, and a compact footprint of 29 mm × 42.5 mm. Thus, it is attractive for 5G MIMO systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Energy dissipation is the most important design limitation for Internet of Things (IoT) enabled Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). In order to prolong the life of WSNs, the energy of nodes must be used in an effective way. Clustering is a strategy that may effectively use the energy of the sensors, extending the life and scalability by managing the network load balance. The energy usage for network operation is reduced by using an evolutionary algorithm called Genetic Algorithm (GA). The Stochastic Cluster Head Selection Model (SCHSM) is described in the proposed protocol by taking the factors such as distance, node energy, density and capacity of nodes for developing the fitness function. The proposed protocol is designed for multiple movable sink nodes and this greatly improves the energy balancing factor in the network. For minimizing the communication gap among sensors and sinks, movable sinks can be placed carefully. Simulation results are analyzed for the system effectiveness. © 2024 The Authors

In medical image analysis, accurate 3D brain tissue segmentation is crucial. This study undertakes a meticulous comparative evaluation of two 3D segmentation models: the established 3DUnet and the innovative 3DUnet Transformer. The assessment is anchored on the segmentation accuracy of three critical brain tissue classes; Whole Tumor (WT) Enhancing Tumor (ET) and Tumor Core (TC), with the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) serving as the principal metric of performance. 3DUnet model demonstrated a consistent advantage over the 3DUnet Transformer, yielding superior DSC scores for ET (0.771 vs. 0.753), WT (0.891 vs. 0.874), and TC (0.804 vs. 0.779). Complementing the DSC, the Hausdorff distance was employed as an additional metric, further evidencing the 3DUnet's enhanced precision in segmentation with lower distance values across the board. These findings highlight the 3DUnet's robust performance and its potential to significantly refine brain tissue segmentation processes within medical imaging applications.

Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications play a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient modern transportation systems. However, challenges arise in scenarios with buildings, leading to signal obstruction and coverage limitations. To alleviate these challenges, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is regarded as an effective solution for communication performance by tuning passive signal reflection. RIS has acquired prominence in 6G networks due to its improved spectral efficiency, simple deployment, and cost-effectiveness. Nevertheless, conventional RIS solutions have coverage limitations. Therefore, researchers have started focusing on the promising concept of simultaneously transmitting and reflecting RIS (STAR-RIS), which provides 360°coverage while utilizing the advantages of RIS technology. In this paper, a STAR-RIS-assisted V2X communication system is investigated. An optimization problem is formulated to maximize the achievable data rate for vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) users while satisfying the latency and reliability requirements of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) pairs by jointly optimizing the spectrum allocation, amplitudes, and phase shifts of STAR-RIS elements, digital beamforming vectors for V2I links, and transmit power for V2V pairs. Since it is challenging to solve in polynomial time, we decompose our problem into two sub-problems. For the first sub-problem, we model the control variables as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) and propose a combined double deep Q-network (DDQN) with an attention mechanism so that the model can potentially focus on relevant inputs. For the latter, a standard optimization-based approach is implemented to provide a real-time solution, reducing computational costs. Extensive numerical analysis is developed to demonstrate the superiority of our proposed algorithm compared to benchmark schemes. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

To address the challenge of complex beam control in traditional multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, research has proposed establishing adaptive beam alignment by utilizing retro-directive antenna (RDA) arrays to create echo resonance between the base station (BS) and user equipment (UE), thereby reducing system computational load. However, in conventional resonant beam systems (RBS), the use of the same frequency for uplink and downlink inevitably leads to echo interference issues. Therefore, this paper proposes an innovative design for an resonance beam-based integrated sensing and communication (RB-ISAC) system to achieve efficient passive sensing and bidirectional communication. In this system, the UE does not actively transmit signals but instead relies on a passive phase conjugation and frequency conversion structure to separate the uplink and downlink carrier frequencies. Additionally, through effective compensation for signal propagation loss, resonance is achieved after multiple iterations, at which point the beam’s field distribution becomes a low-diffraction-loss, high-focusing pattern, automatically aligning the transmitter with the receiver. This enables high-precision passive positioning while facilitating uplink and downlink communication. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed system can achieve resonance after multiple iterations, and can support uplink and downlink communication within a range of 5 meters while achieving passive direction of arrival (DOA) estimation with an error of less than 2 degrees. The superiority of life for people with epilepsy can be greatly improved with the assistance of accurate seizure prediction and early warning. An automatic prediction model is required to procedure the EEG signals and account for the leads optimization problematic, as opposed to the majority of hand-designed prediction approaches. In this research, we put forth a fully automated model for seizure prediction using Channel and Spatial attention (CASA). The first step in the feature extraction practice is to pre-process the raw EEG signals. Large amounts of computation can be saved by adding more features to the system, but finding the right ones can be tricky. The African vulture optimization algorithm's (AVOA) strong capacity to break out of local optima is what makes this procedure possible. CASA saved the raw EEG data's temporal and geographical details. Automatic optimization of EEG full-lead data was completed with channel attention (CA), leading to an increase in the accuracy of predictions. The aforementioned adaptive learning of feature parameters was accomplished via spatial attention (SA). When all else fails, a fully associated layer is used to make the seizure forecast. The suggested algorithm is tested on the Freiburg EEG database, and the results reveal that the AVOA-based system performs admirably when it comes to predicting seizures.

A Multiscale Gradient Fusion Method for Edge Detection in Color Images Utilizing the CBM3D Filter

In this paper, a color edge detection strategy based on collaborative filtering combined with multiscale gradient fusion is proposed. The block-matching and 3D (BM3D) filter are used to enhance the sparse representation in the transform domain and achieve the effect of denoising, whereas the multiscale gradient fusion makes up for the defect of loss of details in single-scale edge detection and improves the edge detection resolution and quality. First, the RGB images in the dataset are converted to XYZ color space images through mathematical operations. Second, the colored block-matching and 3D (CBM3D) filter are used on the sparse images and to remove noise interference. Then, the vector gradients of the color image and the anisotropic Gaussian directional derivative of the two scale parameters are calculated and averaged pixel-by-pixel to obtain a new edge strength map. Finally, the edge features are enhanced by image normalization and non-maximum suppression technology, and on that basis, the edge contour is obtained by double threshold selection and a new morphological refinement method. Through an experimental analysis of the edge detection dataset, the method proposed has good noise robustness and high edge quality, which is better than the Color Sobel, Color Canny, SE and Color AGDD as shown by the PR curve, AUC, PSNR, MSE, and FOM indicators. Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) applications encounter issues with data protection, continual adaptation, and domain-specific knowledge retention, especially in consumer-centric IoMT scenarios. We overcome these obstacles and facilitate effective knowledge retention and task adaptation in IoMT applications. This study attempts to create a unique privacy-preserving federated learning framework that combines a hierarchical learning structure with Continual Learning (CL). Despite the advancements in Federated Learning (FL), current models have trouble integrating changing datasets in real-time while protecting privacy, as well as catastrophic forgetting, which occurs when previously learned knowledge is lost when adjusting to new tasks. We present a hierarchical learning framework that makes use of three levels of models -Junior Model (JM), Consultant Model (CM), and Senior Consultant Model (SCM) -to overcome these drawbacks. Each level of the model aids in archived retention and domain-knowledge adaptation. To guarantee that the model maintains valuable information over time and adapts to new tasks with ease, our method blends domain adaptation strategies with ongoing learning approaches like knowledge distillation and elastic weight consolidation (EWC). We compare the suggested methodology with current state-of-the-art (SOTA) models on healthcare datasets for tasks like illness diagnosis and medical image categorization. According to our findings, the hierarchical continual learning model performs better than SOTA techniques in terms of accuracy, task adaptability, and privacy protection. In the healthcare industry, our study sets a new standard for privacy-preserving, continuously adaptable federated learning systems, allowing for real-time, scalable IoMT applications that can adapt dynamically to a variety of changing datasets. © 1975-2011 IEEE.
