With the usage of tremendous amounts of text data for training powerful large language models such as ChatGPT, the issue of analysing and securing data quality has become more pressing than ever. Any biases, stereotypes and discriminatory patterns that exist in the training data can be reproduced, reinforced or broadly disseminated by the models in production. Therefore, it is crucial to carefully select and monitor the text data that is used as input to train the model. Due to the vast amount of training data, this process needs to be (at least partially) automated. In this work, we introduce a novel approach for automatically detecting gender discrimination in text data on the actor level based on linguistic discourse analysis. Specifically, we combine existing information extraction (IE) techniques to partly automate the qualitative research done in linguistic discourse analysis. We focus on two important steps: Identifying the respective person-named-entity (an actor) and all forms it is referred to (Nomination), and detecting the characteristics it is ascribed (Predication). As a proof of concept, we integrate these two steps into a pipeline for automated text analysis. The separate building blocks of the pipeline could be flexibly adapted, extended, and scaled for bigger datasets to accommodate a wide range of usage scenarios and specific ML tasks or help social scientists with analysis tasks. We showcase and evaluate our approach on several real and simulated exemplary texts. ©2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

The pandemic forced our institution from classroom teaching to complete online remote teaching. After the pandemic we are faced with questions of how we will continue with remote and especially with hybrid teaching formats. This includes the development of effective setups for hybrid and remote teaching scenarios - and to determine which setup is to be preferred in which context. Furthermore we have to find didactic formats to use in remote and hybrid teaching settings. In this paper we present our experiences with the evolution of a hybrid teaching setup as it grew while we detected and incorporated more and more requirements. Our main goal was to overcome several issues related to technical handling during the hybrid lectures, and to simultaneously create a motivating environment for students. The setups considered demand for different effort in terms of technical investment and operations. The most important idea was to separate presentation and video conferencing to different computers, thus tremendously simplifying the handling. One setting is then evaluated for a cohort of the module Software Development during summer term 2022. Evaluation results are very promising. We further coin several didactic issues for hybrid teaching scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

The design of a new adaptive version of the multiple dependent state(AMDS)sampling plan is presented based on the time truncated life test under the Weibull *** achieved the proposed sampling plan by applying the concept of the double sampling plan and existing multiple dependent state sampling plans.A warning sign for acceptance number was proposed to increase the probability of current lot *** optimal plan parameters were determined simultaneously with nonlinear optimization problems under the producer’s risk and consumer’s risk.A simulation study was presented to support the proposed sampling plan.A comparison between the proposed and existing sampling plans,namely multiple dependent state(MDS)sampling plans and a modified multiple dependent state(MMDS)sampling plan,was considered under the average sampling number and operating characteristic curve *** addition,the use of two real datasets demonstrated the practicality and usefulness of the proposed sampling *** results indicated that the proposed plan is more flexible and efficient in terms of the average sample number compared to the existing MDS and MMDS sampling plans.

VR apps in the categories of gaming, leisure, social, fitness, work and education are becoming increasingly popular. The aim of this paper is to determine the potential for increasing efficiency and conserving resources in laboratory processes. For this purpose, literature research was conducted on the one hand, and on the other hand, a virtual simulation environment in the field of cell culture was created within a Laminar Flow Hood (Flow) using the Unity development environment and the Oculus Quest 2 VR goggles. Outstanding features of the app are that, in addition to the possibility of being used via cable using a PC (PCVR), it can also be operated wireless as an Android standalone package, and that it can be used with controllers as well as with hand tracking, i.e., freehand. The Laminar Flow application was extensively tested on a group of 10 employees and students of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The data obtained from the app, as well as questionnaires completed by the test persons, show that a usability-friendly application can be used to train workflows efficiently and, in a resource saving manner. Furthermore, the more often the workflow has been worked through by a person, a greater improvement in the workflow was achieved. In addition, a strong acceptance and high commitment of the users in the technical environment can be seen. Regarding comparable studies and although the test group is subject to some limitations the enormous potential that IVR offers to support location-based training sessions in companies and especially in laboratories and university facilities can be seen. In view of the decreasing prices, the technical advancement of VR devices and the paradigm shift of work and education towards increased home office driven by COVID-19, intensified future research in the field of IVR can be justified in combination with these positive results. © 2022 University of Split, FESB.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming educational technology by enhancing both teaching and learning processes. This paper examines the “LearnStreamAI” project at Technikum Wien, which integrates an AI-driven chatbot within the Moodle LMS to support real-time student interactions. Utilizing advanced AI technologies like OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude3, the chatbot adapts to individual students’ knowledge levels, provides tailored feedback, and enhances engagement through interactive elements in quizzes. Multilingual subtitles using OpenAI’s Whisper technology further improve accessibility for diverse student bodies. In parallel, a toolchain has been developed that automates the creation of academic materials using a PowerShell script and the OpenAI API, based on an easily maintainable Excel input file. This includes generating PowerPoint slides, Moodlecompatible questions, and detailed topic descriptions, all exported into Moodle XML format. The approach ensures accessibility and ease of use for lecturers across various disciplines. The results indicate significant time savings and improved consistency in material preparation. Feedback from pilot studies shows that the AI-generated content is clear, relevant, and well-aligned with academic goals. The system also aids lecturers in quickly acquiring new knowledge by explaining, translating, and summarizing literature. This paper discusses the design, implementation, benefits, and potential improvements of this AI-driven tool, highlighting its role in modern academic teaching and the associated challenges and ethical considerations.

This paper summarizes the second edition of the shared task on multilingual coreference resolution, held with the CRAC 2023 workshop. Just like last year, participants of the shared task were to create trainable systems that detect mentions and group them based on identity coreference;however, this year’s edition uses a slightly different primary evaluation score, and is also broader in terms of covered languages: version 1.1 of the multilingual collection of harmonized coreference resources CorefUD was used as the source of training and evaluation data this time, with 17 datasets for 12 languages. 7 systems competed in this shared task. © CRAC 2023. The integration of Artificial Intelligence(AI) with Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks offers substantial potential for improving communication infrastructure. By harnessing AI algorithms, it is possible to dynamically optimize network parameters, proactively predict and mitigate equipment failures, and enhance Quality of Service (QoS) by prioritizing critical services through real-time analysis of key performance indicators. This study focuses on predicting network throughput using Least Square Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM). The predictive models developed can trigger adaptive network reconfigurations, ensuring that the network responds promptly to changing conditions. Simulation results reveal that the integration of LS-SVM significantly improves prediction accuracy, enabling more effective implementation of self-organizing network strategies in real-time.

This paper presents the development of an extension to the Common Greenhouse Ontology (CGO) to enhance greenhouse automation, specifically focusing on incident reporting from autonomous systems. This research addresses the evolving landscape of technology in greenhouse operations and the need to support semantic interoperability among various components within a greenhouse ecosystem. By extending the CGO to accommodate robot-based autonomous systems, such as autonomous systems to combat diseases in crops and horticultural indoor positioning systems, this study aims to improve data transfer, understanding, and communication in smart horticulture projects. By designing the CGO extension based on practical implementations within the smart horticulture initiative of TNO and Hortivation, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the extended CGO for autonomous systems in enabling collaboration and standardised communication. The paper concludes by discussing the significance of the ontology extension in driving innovation and efficiency in greenhouse automation, while also highlighting areas for future exploration and refinement. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

We present a mechanical model for an oscillator with one degree of freedom under the influence of a flowing medium. Under fairly general conditions we show that the ensuing differential equation has at most two limit cycles and we give examples where exactly two limit cycles will occur. The implications of this result are that it is possible for a system of this kind to exhibit galloping even when the so-called Den Hartog criterion of local instability is not satisfied. © 2023, The Author(s).
