Provided are a method and system for improving a counting rate of a superconducting nanowire single photon detector. The method comprises the following step: connecting an electrical attenuator in series to an output end of a superconducting nanowire single photon detector, wherein the electrical attenuator comprises an input end and an output end, and the input end of the electrical attenuator is connected to the output end of the superconducting nanowire single photon detector. In the invention, an electrical attenuator is connected in series to an output end of a superconducting nanowire single photon detector, the electrical attenuator is configured to be a resistor network, that is, the electrical attenuator acts as a series resistor, reduces the response pulse amplitude of the superconducting nanowire single photon detector, weakens the coupling between the superconducting nanowire single photon detector and an amplifier, and reduces the effect of overshoot, reflection, and voltage offset on the superconducting nanowire single photon detector, thereby improving the counting rate and detection efficiency of the superconducting nanowire single photon detector.
