Patients with Chronic kidney disease associated with bone deficiency are observed in *** article reports the finding that kidney cells secrete a bone growth factor that is stimulated by kaempferol from flavones fraction(FF) Rhizoma Drynariae(Gu Sui Bu,GSB). The FF was extracted from GSB by 50%ethanol,and isolated by macroporous resin,silica gel and sephadex LH-20 column *** components were isolated and identified to be naringin (Ⅰ),neoeriocitrin(Ⅱ),Kaempferol(Ⅲ) and naringenin-7-O-β-D-glucoside(Ⅳ).The activity of the components was examined by studying the proliferation and bio-function of Opossum Kidney (OK),osteoblast(MC3T3 E1) and human fibroblast(HF) *** was found to be active in promoting OK cell growth,the increase in rates being 1.16-1.3 fold,and 12.6 fold respectively in the presence of *** promoted neither MC3T3 E1 nor HF cell *** cell-conditioned culture medium(OKM) promoted MC3T3 E1 growth 2.98 *** 70nM kaempferol-conditioned OKM,MC3T3E1 cell growth increased to 2.27fold in comparison to control *** OKMs failed to show any significant effect on HF cell *** results of OKM promoted osteoblast proliferation indicate that the kidney cell secretes a bone growth factor(BGF).Kaempferol stimulates kidney cells proliferation and increases secretion of *** data suggest that patients with CKD associated with deficiency of bone may have a lower level of *** may serve to stimulate kidney repair and up-regulate bone formation and may be useful in treating CKD and osteoporosis.
