Sixth instar larvae of Helicoverpa armigera (Hbner) was allowed to pupate in smashed clay soil with different moisture levels and 3 simulated rainfall periods. The results of the experiment in the laboratory show that the soil moisture not only influenced the emergence of pupa , but also caused the declining of female’s fecundity. If rainfall happens just 3 days after the larvae tunneled into the soil and the soil relative moisture reaches 20%~80%, the female fecundity will be reduced by 44.2%~56.9%. While it happens before tunneling and the soil moisture is raised to the levels of 40%~80%, the reduction will range from 40.8% to 57.0%. But if it happens 5 days after tunneling, rainfall will have no significant effect on female fecundity.
