Stroke is characterized by high morbidity, high recurrence, high mortality and high disability, which brings huge economic burden and physical and mental torture to the society, families and individuals. Studies have shown that the microbe-gut-brain axis is closely related to the occurrence and development of ischemic stroke, and that gut microbes and their metabolites affect the prognosis of ischemic stroke through the microbe-gut-brain axis, and targeting gut microbes and their metabolites has become a new therapeutic strategy for the treatment of ischemic stroke. This article focuses on the relationship between gut microbes and their metabolites and ischemic stroke, as well as the effects and prospects of fecal bacterial transplantation in treating ischemic stroke in preclinical and clinical stages.
