This paper briefly describes the studies on roasting copper-cobalt complex sulphides. The concentrate contains 1.5% Cu, 0.13% Co, 42.76% Fe, 43.93% S. The sample was roasted with added sodium sulphate in laboratory pipe-furnace (18x 180mm) under controlled temperature and atmospheric conditions. The effect of parameters such as temperature (610—720℃), time (45—90min), and amount of sodium sulphate (1—5% of fresh sample) on the extraction of copper, cobalt and iron was studied. The recovery of copper and cobalt was found to be 95% and 85% respectively. The studies show that at higher temperature, the dissolubility of iron decreases. Furthemore, with the increase of addition of sodium sulphate, the dissolubility of iron *** order to accelerate the speed of desulphurization and improve the quality of exhaust-gas,two-stage roasting operation was also studied. Sample was roasted first at higher temperature such as 800℃, 850℃ or 900℃, then the mixture of roasted and fresh sample was roasted at 650℃. The operation of two-stage roasting has resulted in bringing extraction of iron down to about 1% in the leaching process without much affecting the recovery of other metal *** the leaching residues of one-stage and two-stage roasted samples can be utilized as concentrates of hematite (Fe2O3), leaving no useless waste.
