LasHeR: A large-scale high-diversity benchmark for RGBT tracking

RGBT tracking receives a surge of interest in the computer vision community, but this research field lacks a large-scale and high-diversity benchmark dataset, which is essential for both the training of deep RGBT trackers and the comprehensive evaluation of RGBT tracking methods. To this end, we present a Large-scale High-diversity benchmark for short-term RGBT tracking (LasHeR) in this work. LasHeR consists of 1.24 visible and thermal infrared video pairs with more than 730K frame pairs in total. Each frame pair is spatially aligned and manually annotated with a bounding box, making the dataset well and densely annotated. LasHeR is highly diverse capturing from a broad range of object categories, camera viewpoints, scene complexities and environmental factors across seasons, weathers, day and night. We conduct a comprehensive performance evaluation of 1. RGBT tracking algorithms on the LasHeR dataset and present detailed analysis. In addition, we release the unaligned version of LasHeR to attract the research interest for alignment-free RGBT tracking, which is a more practical task in real-world applications. Code mapping (CM) is an efficient technique for reversible data hiding (RDH) in JPEG images, which embeds data by constructing a mapping relationship between the used and unused codes in the JPEG bitstream. This study presents a new framework for designing a CM-based RDH method. First, a new code mapping strategy is proposed to suppress file size expansion and improve applicability. Based on our proposed strategy, the mapped codes are redefined by creating a new Huffman table rather than selecting them from the unused codes in the original Huffman table. The critical issue of designing the CM-based RDH method, that is, constructing code mapping, is converted into a combinatorial optimization problem. This study proposes a novel CM-based RDH method that utilizes a genetic algorithm (GA). The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a high embedding capacity with no signal distortion while suppressing file size expansion. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. A miniaturized filtering power divider with wide stopband based on quarter-mode substrate integrated waveguide (QMSIW) is proposed. The physical size of the QMSIW is reduced by 3/4 comparing with the traditional SIW structure, which can achieve miniaturization, and its electromagnetic field distribution has little effect. Using the metal interference column and the etched U-shaped groove to adjust the resonance frequency, so that the main mode and the first higher mode form a passband, meanwhile, suppressing the second higher mode. The simulation results show that the center frequency is 4.42 GHz with insertion loss of 0.45 dB, the 3-dB bandwidth is 4.1.-4.63 GHz with a fractional bandwidths of 9.7%, and there is a great stopband up to 1. GHz with 1. dB rejection level. Besides, the return loss of passband is better than 1..5 dB. To verify the validity of this design, a prototype is fabricated and measured. The measured results demonstrate that it has a good agreement with the design simulations.

Recently, support vector ranking has been adopted to address the challenging person re-identification problem. However, the ranking model based on ordinary global features cannot represent the significant variation of pose and viewpoint across camera views. Thus, a novel ranking method which fuses the dense invariant features is proposed in this paper to model the variation of images across camera views. By maximizing the margin and minimizing the error score for the fused features, an optimal space for ranking has been learned. Due to the invariance of the dense invariant features and the fusion of the bidirectional features, the proposed method significantly outperforms the original support vector ranking algorithm and is competitive with state-of-the-art techniques on two challenging datasets, showing its potential for real-world person re-identification.

License plate recognition plays a critical role in many practical applications, but license plates of large vehicles are difficult to be recognized due to the factors of low resolution, contamination, low illumination, and occlusion, to name a few. To overcome the above factors, the transportation management department generally introduces the enlarged license plate behind the rear of a vehicle. However, enlarged license plates have high diversity as they are non-standard in position, size, and style. Furthermore, the background regions contain a variety of noisy information which greatly disturbs the recognition of license plate characters. Existing works have not studied this challenging problem. In this work, we first address the enlarged license plate recognition problem and contribute a dataset containing 9342 images, which cover most of the challenges of real scenes. However, the created data are still insufficient to train deep methods of enlarged license plate recognition, and building large-scale training data is very time-consuming and high labor cost. To handle this problem, we propose a novel task-level disentanglement generation framework based on the Disentangled Generation Network (DGNet), which disentangles the generation into the text generation and background generation in an end-to-end manner to effectively ensure diversity and integrity, for robust enlarged license plate recognition. Extensive experiments on the created dataset are conducted, and we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in three representative text recognition frameworks. © 2022, CC BY.

3D object detection is an essential perception task in autonomous driving to understand the environments. The Bird's-Eye-View (BEV) representations have significantly improved the performance of 3D detectors with camera inputs on popular benchmarks. However, there still lacks a systematic understanding of the robustness of these vision-dependent BEV models, which is closely related to the safety of autonomous driving systems. In this paper, we evaluate the natural and adversarial robustness of various representative models under extensive settings, to fully understand their behaviors influenced by explicit BEV features compared with those without BEV. In addition to the classic settings, we propose a 3D consistent patch attack by applying adversarial patches in the 3D space to guarantee the spatiotemporal consistency, which is more realistic for the scenario of autonomous driving. With substantial experiments, we draw several findings: 1. BEV models tend to be more stable than previous methods under different natural conditions and common corruptions due to the expressive spatial representations; 2) BEV models are more vulnerable to adversarial noises, mainly caused by the redundant BEV features; 3) Camera-LiDARfusion models have superior performance under different settings with multi-modal inputs, but BEV fusion model is still vulnerable to adversarial noises of both point cloud and image. These findings alert the safety issue in the applications of BEV detectors and could facilitate the development of more robust models.

This paper designs a broadband circularly polarized antenna covering the 25 GHz to 31.GHz band. The Vivaldi antenna is used as the basic structure to generate broadband electromagnetic waves; circular polarization is achieved by feeding through a circularly polarized bridge; a metal choke ring is used at the bottom to ensure the low side lobes of the antenna. The antenna consists of four basic Vivaldi antennas, a metal choke ring, a grounded substrate, and a feed network. The results show that the antenna covers the entire frequency band when the axial ratio is lower than 3 dB, and the impedance matching is better. The use of a choke ring structure ensures that the antenna electromagnetic waves are radiated upward, resulting in higher gain and lower side lobes. The highest gain in the included frequency band is 1..4 dB, and the simulation result is good. The antenna has high gain and low sidelobe characteristics.

A compact broadband absorptive band rejection filter (ABSF) based on microstrip line is proposed. The filter consists of a pair of coupled wires and is loaded with a resistor. The coupling line of the filter has an open stub. The transmission zero point can be adjusted by adjusting the width of the coupling line. The center frequency can be adjusted by changing the length of the intermediate coupling line. Absorption performance can be achieved through loaded resistors. In this way, the signal not input in the filter will be dissipated in the filter and will not be reflected. When F0=3.8 GHz, 26% of the 20 dB bandwidth covers 3.1. GHz-4.2 GHz, the rejection depth of the stopband is less than -40 dB, and the in-band absorption is less than -1. dB.

Hand hygiene is a standard six-step hand-washing action proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). However, there is no good way to supervise medical staff to do hand hygiene, which brings the potential risk of disease spread. Existing action assessment works usually make an overall quality prediction on an entire video. However, the internal structures of hand hygiene action are important in hand hygiene assessment. Therefore, we propose a novel fine-grained learning framework to perform step segmentation and key action scorer in a joint manner for accurate hand hygiene assessment. Existing temporal segmentation methods usually employ multi-stage convolutional network to improve the segmentation robustness, but easily lead to over-segmentation due to the lack of the long-range dependence. To address this issue, we design a multi-stage convolution-transformer network for step segmentation. Based on the observation that each hand-washing step involves several key actions which determine the hand-washing quality, we design a set of key action scorers to evaluate the quality of key actions in each step. In addition, there lacks a unified dataset in hand hygiene assessment. Therefore, under the supervision of medical staff, we contribute a video dataset that contains 300 video sequences with fine-grained annotations. Extensive experiments on the dataset suggest that our method well assesses hand hygiene videos and achieves outstanding performance. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
