LIOF: Make the Learned Index Learn Faster With Higher Accuracy

Learned indexes, emerging as a promising alternative to traditional indexes like B+Tree, utilize machine learning models to enhance query performance and reduce memory usage. However, the widespread adoption of learned indexes is limited by their expensive training cost and the need for high accuracy of internal models. Although some studies attempt to optimize the building process of these learned indexes, existing methods are restrictive in scope and applicability. They are usually tailored to specific index types and heavily rely on pre-trained model knowledge, making deployment a challenging task. In this work, we introduce the Learned Index Optimization Framework (LIOF), a general and easily integrated solution aimed at expediting the training process and improving the accuracy of index model for one-dimensional and multi-dimensional learned indexes. The optimization of LIOF for the learned indexes is intuitive, directly providing optimized parameters for index models based on the distribution of node {1.. By leveraging the correlation between key distribution and node model parameters, LIOF significantly reduces the training epochs required for each node model. Initially, we introduce an optimization strategy inspired by optimization-based meta-learning to train the LIOF to generate optimized initial parameters for index node models. Subsequently, we present a {1.-driven encoder and a parameter-centric decoder network, which adaptively translate key distribution into a latent variable representation and decode it into optimized node model initialization. Additionally, to further utilize characteristics of key distribution, we propose a monotonic regularizer and focal loss, guiding LIOF training towards efficiency and precision. Through extensive experimentation on real-world and synthetic {1.sets, we demonstrate that LIOF provides substantial enhancements in both training efficiency and the predictive accuracy for learned indexes. © 1.89-201. Android malware authors often use packers to evade analysis. Although many unpacking tools have been proposed, they face two significant challenges: 1. They are easily impeded by anti-analysis techniques employed by packers, preventing efficient collection of hidden Dex data. 2) They are typically designed to unpack a specific packer and cannot handle malware packed with mixed packers. Consequently, many packed malware samples evade detection. To bridge this gap, we propose Gupacker , a novel generalized unpacking framework. Gupacker offers a generic solution for first-generation holistic packer by customizing the Android system source code. It identifies the type of packer and selects an appropriate unpacking function, constructs a deeper active call chain to achieve generic unpacking of second-generation function extraction packers, and uses JNI function and instruction monitoring to handle third-generation virtual obfuscation packer. On this basis, we counteract a diverse array of anti-analysis techniques. We conduct extensive experiments on 5K packed Android malware samples, comparing Gupacker with 2 commercial and 4 state-of-the-art academic unpacking tools. The results demonstrate that Gupacker significantly improves the efficiency of Android malware unpacking with acceptable system overhead. We analyze real packed applications based on Gupacker and found several are second-packed by attackers, including WPS for Android, with tens of millions of users. Dual AAV Cluster-Assisted Maritime Physical-Layer Secure Communications via Collaborative Beamforming

Autonomous aerial vehicles (AAVs) can be utilized as relay platforms to assist maritime wireless communications. However, complex channels and multipath effects at sea can adversely affect the quality of AAV transmitted signals. Collaborative beamforming (CB) can enhance the signal strength and range to assist the AAV relay for remote maritime communications. However, due to the open nature of AAV channels, security issue requires special consideration. This article proposes a dual AAV cluster-assisted system via CB to achieve physical-layer security in maritime wireless communications. Specifically, one AAV cluster forms a maritime AAV-enabled virtual antenna array (MUVAA) relay to forward data signals to the remote legitimate vessel, and the other AAV cluster forms an MUVAA jammer to send jamming signals to the remote eavesdropper. In this system, we formulate a secure and energy-efficient maritime communication multiobjective optimization problem (SEMCMOP) to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the legitimate vessel, minimize the SINR of the eavesdropping vessel and minimize the total flight energy consumption of AAVs. Since the SEMCMOP is an NP-hard and large-scale optimization problem, we propose an improved swarm intelligence optimization algorithm with chaotic solution initialization and hybrid solution update strategies to solve the problem. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm outperforms other comparison algorithms, and it can achieve more efficient signal transmission by using the CB-based method. © 201. IEEE.

An Evolutionary Multitasking Algorithm for Efficient Multiobjective Recommendations

Represented by evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms, nature-inspired metaheuristics have been successfully applied to recommender systems and amply demonstrated effectiveness, in particular, for multiobjective recommendation. Owing to the population-based search paradigm, these algorithms can produce a number of recommendation lists, making diverse tradeoffs between multiple metrics and meeting the requirements of accuracy, novelty, diversity, and other user preferences. However, these algorithms are criticized for the low efficiency of the optimization process, especially when the number of users is large. To address this issue, this article proposes an evolutionary multitasking-based recommendation method, where each task corresponds to a user and all the tasks are optimized simultaneously, thus highly improving the efficiency of recommendation. To enhance the convergence speed, all the users are divided into multiple populations according to the similarity between their preferences, where each population evolves with internal knowledge transfer between users, and all the populations evolve with external knowledge transfer between populations. Experimental results on various datasets verify that the proposed method can better balance between multiple metrics than classical and deep neural network-based recommendation methods and exhibits significantly higher efficiency than evolutionary multiobjective optimization-based recommendation methods. © 2024 IEEE. Network intrusion detection based on feature fusion of attack dimension

Network traffic anomaly detection involves the rapid identification of intrusions within a network through the detection, analysis, and classification of network traffic data. The variety of cyberattacks encompasses diverse attack principles. Employing an indiscriminate feature selection strategy may lead to the neglect of {1. features highly correlated with specific attack types. This oversight could diminish the recognition rate for that category, thereby impacting the overall performance of the detection model. To address this issue, this paper proposes a network traffic anomaly detection model based on the fusion of attack-dimensional features. Firstly, construct binary classification datasets independently for each attack class and perform individual feature selection to extract positively correlated features for each class. The features are then fused by employing a combination methods. Subsequently, based on the fused sub-datasets, base classifiers are trained. Finally, an ensemble learning approach is introduced to integrate the predictions of individual classifiers, enhancing the robustness of the model. The proposed approach, validated on NSL-KDD and UNSW-NB1. benchmark datasets, outperforms the latest methods in the field by achieving a 2% and 7% increase in precision on weighted averages. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Enhancing Human Pose Estimation in the Internet of Things via Diffusion Generative Models

With the ongoing development of public video surveillance technology, accurate human pose estimation is becoming increasingly important in urban administration and law enforcement. However, existing methods rely on large-scale dense annotations, which are labor-intensive and time-consuming. To tackle this, we propose SparsePose which leverages training videos with sparse annotations (labeled every k frames) to learn to propagate temporal poses that help to estimate the poses in unlabeled frames. Technically, we engage in a novel dual-branch architecture that combines 1. pose forecasting of the consecutive neighboring frames with 2) visual clues of the current frame and the nearest labeled frames. We theoretically derive the intra-branch and inter-branch mutual information loss to supervise that maximized pose-relevant features are extracted from the current frame and different branches complement each other to approach precise pose estimation. Additionally, we propose a diffusion generative enhancement, which improves the robustness of the model to challenging scenes from the perspective of diversity. Empirical results show that our method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in sparsely labeled pose estimation on three benchmark datasets. © 2025 IEEE.

Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KAN) is an emerging neural network architecture in machine learning. It has greatly interested the research community about whether KAN can be a promising alternative to the commonly used Multi-Layer Perceptions (MLP). Experiments in various fields demonstrated that KAN-based machine learning can achieve comparable if not better performance than MLP-based methods, but with much smaller parameter scales and are more explainable. In this paper, we explore the incorporation of KAN into the actor and critic networks for offline reinforcement learning (RL). We evaluated the performance, parameter scales, and training efficiency of various KAN and MLP-based conservative Q-learning (CQL) on the classical D4RL benchmark for offline RL. Our study demonstrates that KAN can achieve performance close to the commonly used MLP with significantly fewer parameters. This allows us to choose the base networks according to the offline RL task requirements. © 2025 IEEE.

Towards a Theoretical Understanding of Semi-Supervised Learning Under Class Distribution Mismatch

Semi-supervised learning (SSL) confronts a formidable challenge under class distribution mismatch, wherein unlabeled data contain numerous categories absent in the labeled dataset. Traditional SSL methods undergo performance deterioration in such mismatch scenarios due to the invasion of those instances from unknown categories. Despite some technical efforts to enhance SSL by mitigating the invasion, the profound theoretical analysis of SSL under class distribution mismatch is still under study. Accordingly, in this work, we propose Bi- Objective Optimization Mechanism (BOOM) to theoretically analyze the excess risk between the empirical optimal solution and the population-level optimal solution. Specifically, BOOM reveals that the SSL error is the essential contributor behind excess risk, resulting from both the pseudo-labeling error and invasion error. Meanwhile, BOOM unveils that the optimization objectives of SSL under mismatch are binary: high-quality pseudo-labels and adaptive weights on the unlabeled instances, which contribute to alleviating the pseudo-labeling error and the invasion error, respectively. Moreover, BOOM explicitly discovers the fundamental factors crucial for optimizing the bi-objectives, guided by which an approach is then proposed as a strong baseline for SSL under mismatch. Extensive experiments on benchmark and real datasets confirm the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm.

Predicting microRNA-Disease Associations Through Multi-View Feature Fusion and Matrix Completion on Graph Convolutional Networks

Since the regulatory roles of microRNAs in complex human diseases have been gradually demonstrated, more and more enlightening models were developed for predicting microRNA-disease associations. These models can inform bio-logical studies on the differential expression of microRNAs. In this paper, a graph convolutional network-based model using multi-view feature fusion and matrix completion, FMCGCN for brevity, is proposed. First of all, graph autoencoders are used to learn multiple embeddings from different networks. For convenience, attention mechanisms are used to fuse them. As a result, multi-view features constructed from different perspectives are aggregated. Then, the fused embedding is fed into the graph convolutional network to aggregate local information. This fused embedding is thought to facilitate feature extraction for graph convolutional networks. Finally, feature and nuclear norm minimization, a method for matrix completion, is used to obtain the prediction matrix. Additionally, evaluation results under 5-fold cross-validation prove that FMCGCN outperforms current models in several metrics. Furthermore, case studies for esophageal neoplasms and pancreatic neoplasms also demonstrate the validity of our model.
