Cell association is a significant research issue in future mobile communication systems due to the unacceptably large computational time of traditional *** article proposes a polynomial-time cell association scheme which not only completes the association in polynomial time but also fits for a generic optimization objective *** the one hand,traditional cell association as a non-deterministic polynomial(NP)hard problem with a generic utility function is heuristically transformed into a 2-dimensional assignment optimization and solved by a certain polynomial-time algorithm,which significantly saves computational *** the other hand,the scheme jointly considers utility maximization and load balancing among multiple base stations(BSs)by maintaining an experience pool storing a set of weighting factor values and their corresponding *** an association optimization is required,a suitable weighting factor value is taken from the pool to calculate a long square utility matrix and a certain polynomial-time algorithm will be applied for the *** with several representative schemes,the proposed scheme achieves large system capacity and high fairness within a relatively short computational time.

MacroTrend: A Write-Efficient Cache Algorithm for NVM-Based Read Cache

The future storage systems are expected to contain a wide variety of storage media and layers due to the rapid development of NVM(non-volatile memory)*** NVM-based read caches,many kinds of NVM devices cannot stand frequent data updates due to limited write endurance or high energy consumption of ***,traditional cache algorithms have to update cached blocks frequently because it is difficult for them to predict long-term popularity according to such limited information about data blocks,such as only a single value or a queue that reflects frequency or *** this paper,we propose a new MacroTrend(macroscopic trend)prediction method to discover long-term hot blocks through blocks'macro trends illustrated by their access count *** then a new cache replacement algorithm is designed based on the MacroTrend prediction to greatly reduce the write amount while improving the hit *** conduct extensive experiments driven by a series of real-world traces and find that compared with LRU,MacroTrend can reduce the write amounts of NVM cache devices significantly with similar hit ratios,leading to longer NVM lifetime or less energy consumption.

ViGT: proposal-free video grounding with a learnable token in the transformer

The video grounding(VG) task aims to locate the queried action or event in an untrimmed video based on rich linguistic descriptions. Existing proposal-free methods are trapped in the complex interaction between video and query, overemphasizing cross-modal feature fusion and feature correlation for VG. In this paper, we propose a novel boundary regression paradigm that performs regression token learning in a transformer. Particularly, we present a simple but effective proposal-free framework, namely video grounding transformer(ViGT), which predicts the temporal boundary using a learnable regression token rather than multi-modal or cross-modal features. In ViGT, the benefits of a learnable token are manifested as follows.(1. The token is unrelated to the video or the query and avoids data bias toward the original video and query.(2) The token simultaneously performs global context aggregation from video and query ***, we employed a sharing feature encoder to project both video and query into a joint feature space before performing cross-modal co-attention(i.e., video-to-query attention and query-to-video attention) to highlight discriminative features in each modality. Furthermore, we concatenated a learnable regression token [REG] with the video and query features as the input of a vision-language transformer. Finally, we utilized the token [REG] to predict the target moment and visual features to constrain the foreground and background probabilities at each timestamp. The proposed ViGT performed well on three public datasets:ANet-Captions, TACoS, and YouCookⅡ. Extensive ablation studies and qualitative analysis further validated the interpretability of ViGT.

Metal-amyloid-β peptide interactions: a preliminary investigation of molecular mechanisms for Alzheimer’s disease

Although humans have spent exactly 1.0 years combating Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the molecular mechanisms of AD remain unclear. Owing to the rapid growth of the oldest age groups of the popula-tion and the continuous increase of the incidence of AD, it has become one of the crucial problems to modern sciences. It would be impossible to prevent or reverse AD at the root without elucidating its molecular mechanisms. From the point of view of metal-amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) interactions, we review the molecular mechanisms of AD, mainly including Cu2+ and Zn2+ inducing the aggregation of Aβ, cata-lysing the production of active oxygen species from Aβ, as well as interacting with the ion-channel-like structures of Aβ. Moreover, the development of therapeutic drugs on the basis of metal-Aβ interactions is also briefly introduced. With the increasingly rapid progress of the molecular mechanisms of AD, we are now entering a new dawn that promises the delivery of revolutionary developments for the control of dementias.

Thermo-responsive stick-slip behavior of advancing water contact angle on the surfaces of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-grafted polypropylene membranes

Wettability of a solid surface is highly important to its practical application,especially for the surface that shows thermoresponsive *** this paper,we describe a thermo-responsive stick-slip behavior of water droplets on the surfaces of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAM)-grafted polypropylene *** emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM) images elucidate that the morphology of PNIPAM-grafted membrane surface is thermo-responsive,i.e.,the surface becomes rougher above the lower critical solution temperature(LCST) of *** the surface of nascent polypropylene membranes,the water droplet shows a smooth motion resulting in advancing and receding water contact angles of 1.1. and ～65°,*** the PNIPAM-grafted membrane surfaces,the water droplet shows a stick-slip pattern above the LCST,whereas it advances smoothly below the *** phenomenon is reproducible and can be ascribed to the energy barriers enhanced by the shrink of PNIPAM chains above the *** also find that the slip contact angle decreases from 1.2° to 92° after several stick-slip *** decrease is attributed to the water adsorption on the grafted PNIPAM layer,which is confirmed by the continuous decrease of the receding water contact angle.

This paper presents a novel method for the synthesis of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) capped with β-cyclodextrin in aqueous solution using both TGA and mono-6-thio-β-CD as *** interaction between mono-6-thio-β-CD-CdTe QDs and neutral red (NR) was studied with fluorescence,UV-absorption and the resonance Rayleigh scattering *** its concentration was over 7.5 × 1.-6 mol/L,the neutral red began to aggregate on the surface of the mono-6-thio-β-CD-CdTe QDs,which resulted in the mono-6-thio-β-CD-CdTe QDs particle size increasing,the sharply quenched fluorescence,and the marked increase of RRS intensity.

Transfer RNAs(tRNAs) hold a central place in protein synthesis by interpreting the genetic information stored in DNA into the amino acid sequence of protein,thus functioning as "adaptor" *** recent years,however,various studies have shown that tRNAs have additional functions beyond participating in protein *** suffering from certain nutritional stresses,tRNAs change the level of aminoacylation to became uncharged,and these uncharged tRNAs act as effector molecules to regulate global gene expression,so that the stressed organism copes with the adverse environmental *** budding yeast and certain mammalian cells,the retrograde movement of mature tRNAs from cytoplasm to nucleus serves as a mechanism for the surveillance system within the nucleus to continue monitoring the integrity of *** the other hand,this retrograde action effectively reduces the global protein synthesis level under conditions of nutritional *** recently,various publications have shown that tRNAs are not stable molecules in an absolute *** certain physiological or environmental stresses,they are specifically cleaved into fragments of different lengths in the anticodon loop or anticodon left *** cleavages are not a meaningless random degradation ***,a novel class of signal molecules such as tRNA halves or sitRNAs may be produced,which are closely correlated with the modulation of global gene *** of the regulatory functions of tRNAs is a frontier,which seeks to reveal the structural and functional diversity of tRNAs as well as their vital functions during the expression of genetic information.

Recent studies have shown that microRNAs(miRNAs) play an important role in cell differentiation,growth,and death,including the functional study of miRNAs in *** date,miRNA expression profiles in many types of cancers have been identified and miRNA expression signatures associated with types and cytogenetics of leukemia have also been *** evidence has shown that miRNAs could function as either tumor suppressors or oncogenes in cancers such as leukemia,while other miRNAs might be benefitcial for diagnosis and prognosis,predicted to be newly developed *** this review,we summarize the recent progress about miRNAs in leukemia and present a miRNA-mediated network involved in differentiation,proliferation and apoptosis predicted to be the roles of miRNAs in the pathogenesis of leukemia.
