Brownian Dynamics Simulation of Microstructures and Elongational Viscosities of Micellar Surfactant Solution

Brownian dynamics simulation is conducted for a dilute surfactant solution under a steady uniaxial elongational flow. A new inter-cluster potential is used for the interaction among surfactant micelles to determine the micellar network structures in the surfactant solution. The micellar network is successfully simulated. It is formed at low elongation rates and destroyed by high elongation rates. The computed elongational viscosities show elongation- thinning characteristics. The relationship between the elongational viscosities and the mierostructure of the surfactant solution is revealed.

Extensive studies have been carried out on the behavior of core degradation and fission products of common pressurized water reactors(PWRs).However,few of them have investigated the relationship between thermal hydraulic and fission product behavior in advanced passive *** to the impact of thermal hydraulic be-haviors in different accident sequences on the release and transportation of fission products,an integrated severe accident analysis(ISAA)code with highly coupled thermal hydraulic and source term calculations is required to simultaneously analyze thermal hydraulic and source term *** advanced passive PWRs,important safety systems that may affect the behavior of the core and fission products should be *** is therefore necessary to simulate the thermal hydraulic and fission product behavior of advanced passive *** this study,the ISAA code is adopted to simulate the occurrence of a hypothetical double ended cold leg LBLOCA of HPR1.00 in three scenarios of equipment *** results show that the high-temperature fuel rods and cladding ma-terials exhibit delayed failure at the lower position of the active core,whereas earlier failure at higher position during the *** and passive equipment affects fuel temperature,the oxidation conditions of the fuel,the interaction of fission products and structural materials,and the state of the fuel,thereby affecting the release of fission products in the ***1.00 only relies on passive equipment to relieve the core degradation in severe accidents,realize the in-vessel retention of melt,and eliminate the ex-vessel release possibility of fission *** is hoped that the results can provide references for HPR1.00 to formulate the severe accident management guidelines(SAMG).

The dominant frequency of pressure oscillation caused by unstable steam jet in subcooled water flow in a narrow channel was experimentally investigated. In this study, a visualized test section with rectangular channel, steam nozzle and water nozzle was designed. A high speed camera was employed to record flow patterns. In order to investigate the characteristics of pressure oscillation in the channel, several high frequency dynamic pressure transducers were arranged on the wall of the channel. The main inlet parameters, including steam mass flux, water mass flux and inlet water temperature were tested in the range of 1.0-400kg/(m2s), 6-1.×1.3kg/(m2s) and 1.-40°C. Two different unstable flow patterns were observed as bubble flow and oscillation jet. The dominant frequency of pressure oscillation under various test conditions was obtained by fast Fourier transform (FFT) method. The results indicated that the dominant frequency was dependent on the variation of condensation length of the steam jet. The longer the condensation length, the lower the dominant frequency. The influence of steam mass flux, water mass flux and inlet water temperature on dominant frequency was discussed. The dominant frequency would decrease with the increase of steam mass flux and inlet water temperature, but increase with the water mass flux. © 201. The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Modeling the evolution of aeolian sand transport in a wind tunnel

An Eulerian-Lagrangian numerical simulation is performed to study aeolian sand transport in a wind tunnel. The evolutions of three parameters, sand mass flux, decay rate of sand mass flux profile and sand particle mean horizontal velocity with time, are investigated. The results show that: Sand mass flux takes more time to reach the saturated state than the last two parameters. First, we prove the evolution with time in the simulation is similar to the evolution in the length direction in a wind tunnel and then the experimental data from unsaturated wind tunnel can be used in the quantitative comparison with simulated saturated results. Second, detailed comparison is carried out. The tendency of sand mass flux is consistent with the experimental data. Decay rate of sand mass flux profile and sand particle mean horizontal velocity fit the experimental data well especially for cases of small free stream wind velocity, and the deviation is getting larger with the increasing of free stream wind velocity.

An accurate prediction of the critical gas velocity for the liquid loading is of great importance for operators to select the tubing diameter for the newly drilled gas wells,or to optimize the production rate for production *** is clear from previous experimental studies of the liquid entrainment rate in the gas core that the liquid is mainly carried in the form of film under the critical condition of the liquid loading *** is more reasonable to establish a mathematical model based on the film reversal rather than based on the droplet *** our previous paper entitled“Prediction of the critical gas velocity of liquid unloading in the horizontal gas well”,a new analytical model was established based on the force balance between the gas-liquid interfacial friction force and the bottom film gravity,but the model is not very convenient to use because of the complexity of calculating the average film *** the present study,a new method is proposed to calculate the average film thickness from the bubble drift velocity in the mixture,so the new analytical model becomes much easier to *** new analytical model is evaluated against 1.3 sets of experimental data,the data in 1.4 vertical gas wells and one horizontal gas ***,the effect ofthe liquid loading on the production of the horizontal gas well is also analyzed.

Because of the continuous expanding of the district heating, the heating load of combined heat and power(CHP) plants increases year by year. The minimum power load of CHP plant increases with the heating load due to the heat-power coupling mechanism. Therefore, heat-power decoupling is necessary to improve the operation flexibility for CHP units. Integrating the absorption heat pump(AHP) is an effective method to realize the heat-power decoupling. In this study, a 330MW CHP unit model and AHP model have been developed and validated. The performance of the heat-power decoupling and energy saving performance has been investigated by comparing the thermodynamic performance indicators. Results show that, the proposed system can increase the maximum heating load and decrease the power generation when the primary network return temperature is decreased. When the heating steam extraction is kept constant, with the increase of the primary network return water temperature, the heat generation efficiency and the standard coal consumption rate of heating increases, the coal consumption rate of power generation and the heating efficiency decreases. And the primary network return water temperature increases from 40 °C to 70 °C, the coal consumption rate of power generation decreases by 4.3 g/kWh, and the coal consumption rate of heating increases by 0.67 kg/GJ. A New Model Coupling Interface Tracking Methods and Two‐Fluid Model for Simulation of Incompressible Gas‐liquid Two‐Phase flow

A model coupling two basic models, the model with interface tracking method and two‐fluid model, for simulation of incompressible gas‐liquid two‐phase flow is proposed. A united solution frame shared by the two basic models is built. In the shared solution frame, the Navier—Stokes equations of the two basic models can be dealt with in a uniform form. In the proposed model, there are three phases, which are divided not only by physics but also by the length scale of interface, including the liquid phase, the large‐length‐scale‐interface gas phase and the small‐length‐scale‐interface gas phase. The special treatment named by “void fraction redistribution” is adopted for the special grids which contain all three phases. Based on the united solution frame, MCBA—SIMPLE algorithm is used to solve the equations. Two problems are calculated to show that the proposed model has the merits of the two basic models.

Recent studies have demonstrated that ammonia could be one of the most promising hydrogen carrier candidates which can be used in large-scale power plants. However, it is challenging to burn ammonia in gas turbines due to its narrow flame stabilization limits. In this study, the blow-off characteristics and flame macrostructure transition behavior of ammonia/air flame (NH₃ flame) and ammonia/methane/air flame (50%NH₃ flame) in a swirl combustor were investigated. Flame structures and {1. fields near the blow-off limit were analyzed. Methane/air flame (CH₄ flame) was also examined for comparative purposes. The {1. field and instantaneous OH profile were measured with PIV and OH-PLIF technique, respectively. Large eddy simulation (LES) was conducted to extend the understanding of the experimental findings. Results revealed that the NH₃ flame possesses a poor lean flame stability limit which can be largely extended by adding CH₄ in the fuel. Changing swirl number (S) had no apparent effect on the lean blow-off limit (Φ_b) for the NH₃ flame. On the contrary, a clear extension on Φ_b was found for the 50%NH₃ flame when increasing S. Four flame macrostructure modes were identified when decreasing equivalence ratio (Φ). The transition from flame II to flame III ((Φ_tdescribes the transition equivalence ratio) can be considered as the early warning of blow-off for a swirl stabilized flame. For the NH₃ flame, there was no clear flame macrostructure transition at small inlet velocities (U < 3.8 m/sec), i.e., Φ_b ≈ Φt. The difference between Φ_b and (Φ_twas observed as the inlet velocity increased. However, for the 50%NH₃ and CH₄ flames, a clear flame macrostructure transition from flame II to flame III was observed even for a lower inlet velocity. Severe slugging in a flexible S-shaped riser system: Experimental studies and transient simulation

Severe slugging, which could induce large-amplitude pressure and flow rate fluctuations, is a major and expensive problem in {1. transportation systems of offshore oil production system. To avoid such problem is a basic requirement for flow assurance management. This study is an experimental and numerical investigation of severe slugging in a relatively long pipeline-riser system. A series of experiments on two-phase, air-water flow in a flexible Sshaped riser were carried out. The experimental system has a 1.4m long horizontal pipeline connected to a 1.m long pipe which is inclined to −2degree from horizontal, followed by a 1..3m high riser operating at atmospheric end pressure. Four types of flow patterns were found and characterized by the pressure fluctuations at the bottom of the riser. A flow patter map for the prediction of severe slugging was developed based on the experimental results. The detailed characteristics of severe slugging such as pressure fluctuations, liquid holdup, under different gas-liquid superficial velocities were provided. A transient model to predict the flow behavior in the pipeline-S-shaped riser system was developed based on an existing model (OLGA). The modified model, which was tested against new experimental results obtained in this study, showed that the four types of flow patterns observed in the experiment were predicted with acceptable discrepancies. The flow pattern map was obtained using present model, as well as the detailed characteristics of severe slugging. In addition, the reasons for the difference between experimental and numerical results were analysed in this article. The motive of the numerical studies was to identify the areas that could not be reproduced by the present model and to give some suggestions for future models.

Statistical analysis on the signals monitoring multiphase {1. patterns in pipeline-riser system

The signals monitoring petroleum transmission pipeline in offshore oil industry usually contain abundant information about the multiphase {1. on {1. assurance which includes the avoidance of most undesirable {1. pattern. Therefore, extracting reliable features form these signals to analyze is an alternative way to examine the potential risks to oil platform. This paper is focused on characterizing multiphase {1. patterns in pipeline-riser system that is often appeared in offshore oil industry and finding an objective criterion to describe the transition of {1. patterns. Statistical analysis on pressure signal at the riser top is proposed, instead of normal prediction method based on inlet and outlet {1. conditions which could not be easily determined during most situations. Besides, machine learning method (least square supported vector machine) is also performed to classify automatically the different {1. patterns. The experiment results from a small-scale loop show that the proposed method is effective for analyzing the multiphase {1. pattern.
