Human body communication is expected to be a viable new transmission method for networks between wearable devices working together in a body area network (BAN). Wearable devices demand long battery life, small size, and light weight. Therefore, it is important to investigate the input impedance characteristics of the electrodes and design the electrode structure in such a way as to improve the communication qualities. The characteristics of the human body are important for designing the antennas (electrodes) used for close range communication in a human body communication system. Normally, homogenous muscle phantoms are used for measuring the input impedance characteristics of these antennas. However, nobody has measured the input impedance characteristics of electrodes for human body communication at a frequency of 10 MHz using phantoms that take into account the actual tissue structure of the human body. Therefore, it is necessary to measure the impedance characteristics using phantoms which consider skin, fat, and muscle. In this study, changes in the input impedance characteristics were analyzed considering the electrical properties of a phantom containing muscle and fat. Moreover we tried to develop a human muscle and fat phantom for human body communication system available at a frequency of 10 MHz.

Data management is integral to sound polar science. Through analysis of documents reporting on meetings of the Arctic data management community, a set of priorities and strategies are identified. These include the need to improve data sharing, make use of existing resources, and better engage stakeholders. Network theory is applied to a preliminary inventory of polar and global data management actors to improve understanding of the emerging community of practice. Under the name the Arctic Data Coordination Network, we propose a model network that can support the community in achieving their goals through improving connectivity between existing actors.

After the nuclear accident in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant（FDNPP） caused by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami on March 11,2011,high concentrations of radiocesium(Cs and Cs) in wild mushrooms and lichens were *** clarify which fungal species are high radiocesium accumulator,the plant pathogenic fungi are investigated *** this study we examine the radiocesium accumulation in azalea leaf gall on Rhododendron indicum caused by Exobasidium japonicum collected from different areas with different aerial radiation *** June 1 and 12, 2012,leaves with leaf gall and healthy leaves of the same tree were collected totally from 23 sites belonging to Ibaraki Pref.,Tochigi *** Fukushima *** 46 samples were dried,weighed and *** concentrations of radionuclides of each samples were determined by gamma-ray spectrometry using a high purity germanium *** results reveal that the concentrations of Cs in diseased samples were double higher than healthy samples at least in 22 *** in one site healthy sample was 1.4-fold higher than diseased *** highest concentration was 3327.2 bq/kg for diseased sample and 1766.8 bq/kg for healthy sample from Date,Fukushima Pref.（ca.60 km far from FDNPP） and this highest concentration was 67-fold higher than the diseased sample of the lowest concentration determined in Tsukuba,Ibaraki Pref.（ca.168 km far from FDNPP）.This study suggests for the first time that plant pathogenic fungi which is chiefly due to hypertrophy of the host cells can increase the accumulation of radiocesium.

Aims Recent studies revealed convergent temperature sensitivity of ecosys-tem respiration(Re)within aquatic ecosystems and between terrestrial and aquatic *** do not know yet whether various terres-trial ecosystems have consistent or divergent temperature ***,we synthesized 163 eddy covariance flux sites across the world and examined the global variation of the apparent activation energy(Ea),which characterizes the apparent temperature sensitivity of and its interannual variability(IAV)as well as their controlling *** We used carbon fluxes and meteorological data across FLUXNET sites to calculate mean annual temperature,tempera-ture range,precipitation,global radiation,potential radiation,gross primary productivity and Re by averaging the daily values over the years in each ***,we analyzed the sites with>8 years data to examine the IAV of Ea and calculated the standard deviation of Ea across years at each site to character-ize *** Findings The results showed a widely global variation of Ea,with significantly lower values in the tropical and subtropical areas than in temperate and boreal areas,and significantly higher values in grasslands and wetlands than that in deciduous broadleaf forests and evergreen ***,spatial variations of Ea were explained by changes in temperature and an index of water availability with differing contribution of each explaining variable among climate zones and *** and the corresponding coefficient of variation of Ea decreased with increasing latitude,but increased with radiation and corresponding mean annual *** revealed patterns in the spatial and temporal variations of Ea and its controlling factors indicate divergent temperature sensitivity of Re,which could help to improve our predictive understanding of Re in response to climate change.

The United States (US) Department of Defense (DoD) offers a great opportunity to implement solar energy solutions across its US bases. It is the single largest energy consumer in the federal government and has sufficient land requirements to implement solar energy solutions. By implementing solar energy solutions across its bases in the US, the DoD will be able to realize benefits such as meeting federal policies and mandates, reducing energy intensity from fossil fuel resources (including foreign oil), reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and improving national security and mission readiness. This report describes the current DoD energy landscape for its facilities and nontactical (fleet) vehicles, DoD benefits of implementing solar energy technologies, and research methods and results that will help realize these benefits through the development of a decision model that will augment the implementation of solar energy technologies on DoD bases. environmental Practice 13:1-13 (2011) [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]

It was with great excitement that we planned the combined meetings of Northeast Aquaculture Conference and Exposition (NACE) and the International Conference on Shellfish Restoration (ICSR) with the 33rd Milford Aquaculture Seminar (MAS). Bringing these different but complementary audiences together resulted in a meeting that combined many different aspects of fisheries restoration and aquaculture under one *** hundred attendees including government representatives, research scientists, industry, and academia at both the university and vocational high school levels attended this event. The meeting commenced on Wednesday December 12th 2012, with over eighty people attending seven field trips to area aquaculture farms and research facilities. The formal program began on Thursday, December 13th with a plenary session including invited speakers Eric Schwabb, Acting Assistant Secretary for Conservation and Management at NOAA; Sebastian Belle, Executive Director of the Maine Aquaculture Association and Boze Hancock from the Nature Conservancy, who discussed the role of aquaculture in fisheries restoration. John Bullard, the Northeast Regional Administrator of NOAA Fisheries Service, addressed the group during the luncheon the following day. The technical papers and workshops presented were divided into 35 sessions over three days of the meeting and included topics such as the history of aquaculture, aquaculture hatchery innovations, siting and planning issues, risk management, aquaculture business management, ocean acidification, climate change, as well as aquaculture disease issues and potential remedies. Having persons present who have experienced problems and successes, along with those in manufacturing and government responsible for addressing concerns and sharing best practices, was invaluable. Discussions among this cross-section of persons who represent different aspects of aquaculture were as important as the well-presented and interesting formal papers
