Course-based online learning video retrieval system

Audio-visual learning media, such as learning videos on YouTube, is an alternative representation of the learning media commonly used during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are many learning videos available on YouTube; thus, selecting the appropriate learning videos is a challenge in the research field of information retrieval. This study focuses on building an information retrieval system that can recommend online learning videos based on the user requirements, namely the course name and its syllabus. The proposed information retrieval system works through cosine similarity measurement to calculate the closeness between the course and its syllabus with video annotations. The video annotation consists of the title and description metadata of the video captured in real-time from YouTube using the YouTube API. The proposed information retrieval system provides the five most recommended learning videos based on the selected courses and their syllabus. The experimental results involving 40 respondents show that the online video retrieval system has a good performance proven by an accurate level of 80.5% that in line with the relevance score of 84. Furthermore, another three performance indicators also great, i.e., the values of novelty, serendipity, and increasing recommendation diversity are 78%, 77%, and 85.5, respectively.

We present high angular resolution measurements of the thermal Sunyaev–Zel’dovich effect (SZE) toward two galaxy clusters, RCS J2319+0038 at z = 0.9 and HSC J0947−0119 at z = 1.1, by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Band 3. They are supplemented with available Chandra X-ray data, optical data taken by Hyper Suprime-Cam on Subaru, and millimeter-wave SZE data from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope. Taking into account departures from spherical symmetry, we have reconstructed non-parametrically the inner pressure profile of two clusters as well as electron temperature and density profiles for RCS J2319+0038. This is one of the first such measurements for an individual cluster at z 0.9. We find that the inner pressure profile of both clusters is much shallower than that of local cool-core clusters. Our results consistently suggest that RCS J2319+0038 hosts a weak cool core, where radiative cooling is less significant than in local cool cores. On the other hand, HSC J0947−0119 exhibits an even shallower pressure profile than RCS J2319+0038 and is more likely to be a non-cool-core cluster. The SZE centroid position is offset by more than 140 h−170 kpc from the peaks of galaxy distribution in HSC J0947−0119, suggesting a stronger influence of mergers in this cluster. We conclude that these distant clusters are at a very early stage of developing the cool cores typically found in clusters at lower redshifts. © The Author(s) 2023. So far, the identification of 16 types of tree damage is still following the guidelines stated in the Forest Health Monitoring method. The types of tree damage can be recognized by human vision, as well as by computers. computer vision allows computers to identify things that humans can remember. In this case, the study can be realized with computer vision to make work easier. This study aimed to identify 16 types of damage in Forest Health Monitoring using image data or photos with computer vision. The stages of this research are image acquisition (image acquisition), image processing (image preprocessing), and feature extraction (feature extraction). The results showed that computer vision could identify images in JPG/JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts) format, assisted by the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) algorithm. The percentage value of success using the CNN algorithm reaches 99.06%, with an error detection of 0.94%. However, several classes were incorrectly identified, indicating that the dataset needs improvement. Thus, it can be concluded that identifying 16 types of damage using image data or photos with computer vision has been successfully carried out.

Application of XGBoost algorithm in classification of 28 types of cancer based on ctDNA mutations

Circulating Tumor DNA (ctDNA) in blood samples of cancer patients contains components for the diagnosis of cancer. These components when combined with bioinformatics using machine learning algorithms can facilitate the classification of cancer. Extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) is an ensemble learning method that works by combining basic models to produce an optimal predictive model. This study aims to determine the results of the XGBoost algorithm classification using somatic mutations and copy number changes that occur in ctDNA. This study performs a classification using XGBoost with two types of cross-validation, 10-fold and holdout cross-validation, using data from Soh et al., 2017 [1]. For holdout cross-validation, training and testing data will be divided into 60:40, 70:30, 75:25, 80:20, and 90:10. Each classification experiment conducted in this study was tested using two types of data, namely data with overall features and data with the top 900 features as a result of feature selection. The highest accuracy result was obtained by XGBoost holdout cross-validation 90:10 using 900 features with an accuracy value of 89.91%, while the lowest accuracy value was obtained by XGBoost 10-fold cross-validation 900 features, which was 70.01%. The accuracy value tends to be higher in the 900-feature experiment compared to the overall feature. The holdout cross-validation experiment gets a better accuracy value than the 10-fold cross-validation experiment. For holdout cross-validation, the greater the percentage of training data, the higher the accuracy obtained.

A therapy game for elementary students with ADHD

Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder usually have problem to express themselves. Using game as a therapy, they could reduce the problem. A recent study has revealed video games might be an alternative therapy for children with ADHD. This research is to analyze the data that was collected from a prototype game that has been developed and created. The game is created using Construct2. To collect data from the game, back-end web application was created using PHP and MySQL. Several data that have been used in this research paper are score, incorrect house, and incorrect fruit. Ten children with ADHD are involved in this testing, all children are elementary students and never receive any treatment for their ADHD. Before and after the testing, they have been tested by fMRI. The testing consists of 4 weeks of training sessions of about 20-30 minutes almost every day except Sunday or public holiday. Every session contains at least three tutorial or training tasks and four game tasks in a fixed order. In conclusion, the result showed the scores were better when the children with ADHD play with visual instruction rather than with audio instruction.

Regarding management, TAHURA WAR is divided into blocks, one of which is the utilization block. In this block, the community can carry out utilization and use of forest areas. One of the causes of forest use by the community in this block is damage to trees due to high human activities or other concomitant causes. This study aimed to identify the damage to trees based on FHM in the TAHURA WAR utilization block. This research was conducted on five FHM cluster plots of utilization blocks that have been built. Identification is made by measuring and analyzing trees’ location, type, and severity based on the FHM method. The results showed 14 varieties of tree damage from 345 trees. The most common types of damage found were open wounds (code 03) with 162 trees and cancer (code 01) with 78 trees with an average severity of 20-29%. The two types of tree damage were often found at the location of the lower bole (code 3) and lower and upper bole (code 4), with the status of the level of tree damage in the moderate category (6.7 – 9.9). Thus, in the TAHURA WAR utilization block, two dominant types of tree damage were identified. This condition resulted in a considerable decrease in the quantity and quality of wood in the TAHURA WAR utilization block.

Problem-solving abilities are very important in mathematics, not only for those who will study mathematics in the future but also for those who will apply it in other fields of study and in everyday life because in the process of learning and solving it, students can gain experience using knowledge and skills already possessed to be applied in solving non-routine problems. This study aims to analyze and describe students' mathematical problem-solving abilities through the application of the Differentiated Instruction approach. This research is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental method. This research was conducted in one of the Vocational High Schools in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, for grade 10 students consisting of two classes, namely the control class and the experimental class, where each class consisted of 24 students. The sampling technique with cluster random sampling was used to collect data. Data collection is done by giving a test on trigonometry material. Data analysis was performed using a two-way ANOVA test. The results of this study indicate that the increase in mathematical problem-solving abilities of students who receive learning using the Differentiated Instruction approach is better than students who receive direct learning.

In recent decades, the development of new drugs has become increasingly expensive and inefficient, and the molecular mechanisms of most pharmaceuticals remain poorly understood. In response, computational systems and network medicine tools have emerged to identify potential drug repurposing candidates. However, these tools often require complex installation and lack intuitive visual network mining capabilities. To tackle these challenges, we introduce ***, a platform that assists specialized computational medicine tools in becoming user-friendly, web-based utilities for drug repurposing. With just three lines of code, *** turns any systems biology software into an interactive web tool for modeling and analyzing complex protein-drug-disease networks. Demonstrating its broad adaptability, *** has been successfully integrated with 21 computational systems medicine tools. Photonic technologies continue to drive the quest for new optical materials with unprecedented responses. A major frontier in this field is the exploration of nonlocal (spatially dispersive) materials, going beyond the local, wavevector-independent assumption traditionally made in optical material modeling. On one end, the growing interest in plasmonic, polaritonic and quantum materials has revealed naturally occurring nonlocalities, emphasizing the need for more accurate models to predict and design their optical responses. This has major implications also for topological, nonreciprocal, and time-varying systems based on these material platforms. Beyond natural materials, artificially structured materials—metamaterials and metasurfaces–can provide even stronger and engineered nonlocal effects, emerging from long-range interactions or multipolar effects. This is a rapidly expanding area in the field of photonic metamaterials, with open frontiers yet to be explored. In the case of metasurfaces, in particular, nonlocality engineering has become a powerful tool for designing strongly wavevector-dependent responses, enabling enhanced wavefront control, spatial compression, multifunctional devices, and wave-based computing. Furthermore, nonlocality and related concepts play a critical role in defining the ultimate limits of what is possible in optics, photonics, and wave physics. This Roadmap aims to survey the most exciting developments in nonlocal photonic materials, highlight new opportunities and open challenges, and chart new pathways that will drive this emerging field forward–toward new scientific discoveries and technological advancements.
