Method of adiabatic waveguide modes formulation for open layered dielectric planar waveguides in symbolic form

Computational problems of electrodynamics require an approximate solution of the system of Maxwells vector equations for regions with different geometries. The main methods for solving problems with the Maxwell equations are either finite difference methods, or methods based on the Galerkin and Kantorovich expansions, or the finite element method. Each of the classes of methods is characterised by a wide range of permissible objects, but in each of the methods, the solution contains a large number of quantities known only in numerical *** have chosen a different approach, in which to describe the waveguide propagation of electromagnetic radiation we propose using the model of adiabatic waveguide modes. This model, firstly, allows for the vector character of electromagnetic radiation and, secondly, involves the amplitude vector function and the scalar function describing the phase as the main desired quantities. This model allows reducing Maxwell’s equations to a system of ordinary differential equations, which allows analysis of its solutions at the symbolic level.

In this paper, the Maple computer algebra system is used to construct a symbolic-numeric implementation of the method for calculating normal modes of square closed waveguides in a vector formulation. The method earlier proposed by Malykh et al. [M.D. Malykh, L.A. Sevastianov, A.A. Tiutiunnik, N.E. Nikolaev. On the representation of electromagnetic fields in closed waveguides using four scalar potentials // Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 32 (7), 886-898 (2018)] will be referred to as the method of four potentials. The Maple system is used at all stages of treating the system of differential equations for four potentials: the generation of the Galerkin basis, the substitution of approximate solution into the system under study, the formulation of a computational problem, and its approximate *** paper presents the results of the verification method.

Subsemirings of simplices with the same vertices or with the same configuration

The endomorphism semiring εCn of a finite chain can be represented as a simplex. An arbitrary subsemiring of εCn is a simplex σ(n){a0, …, ak−1} with vertices a0, …, ak−1. For m ≠ n, m ≤ k, we consider another simplex σ(m){a0, …, ak−1} with the same vertices. In the second section we consider pairs of subsemirings of these two simplices which are isomorphic. Thus we investigate a connections between some idempotents and some nilpotent elements of the simplices. The k-tuple (a1−a0, …, ak−1−ak−2, n−ak−1) is called a configuration of the simplex σ(n){a0, …, ak−1}. In the last section we consider a subsimplices of εCn with the same configuration and construct pairs of isomorphic subsemirings of these simplices.

Nilpotent and idempotent elements of subsemirings of the endomorphism semiring of an infinite chain

Idempotent and nilpotent elements are important in the structure of semigroups and semirings. In this article, we obtain some results of nilpotent endomorphisms of an infinite chain which applies to (multiplicatively) idempotents of the endomorphism semiring of a finite chain as well. We prove that the set of all idempotents with certain fixed points is a semiring and find its order. We further show that this semiring is an ideal in a well known semiring. The construction of an equivalence relation such that any equivalence class contain just one idempotent and roots of the idempotent is proposed. In our main result we prove that such equivalence class is a semiring and find his order.

The last decade has seen a surge of interest in understanding the functional relationships between the elements that make up the diverse ecology of the gut microbiome. This ecological web includes bacteria, viruses, and microbes that enter, populate and leave living hosts. They affect metabolism and stimulate the immune system, directly or indirectly modulating most physiological *** animal models are being explored in the context of their particular roles in this ecological web. For example, consider the importance of the insect gut microbiota as an invisible third faction in the chemical arms race that has given rise to a large portion of Earth's terrestrial diversity. Mathematical modeling has recently begun to play a role in our understanding of the functioning of the microbiome and how the microbiome is affected by the outside *** this paper, we present a mathematical model that describes the spatial dynamics of several competing bacterial populations along with a toxin that inhibits the growth of one of bacterial populations and is degraded by the other bacteria. The model consists of a system of four non-linear partial differential equations describing the interactions of the bacteria as they flow through the digestive tract. The model simulations and analysis give insight into possible mechanisms to explore in future laboratory experiments.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has recently seen transformative breakthroughs in the life sciences, expanding possibilities for researchers to interpret biological information at an unprecedented capacity, with novel applications and advances being made almost daily. In order to maximise return on the growing investments in AI-based life science research and accelerate this progress, it has become urgent to address the exacerbation of long-standing research challenges arising from the rapid adoption of AI methods. We review the increased erosion of trust in AI research outputs, driven by the issues of poor reusability and reproducibility, and highlight their consequent impact on environmental sustainability. Furthermore, we discuss the fragmented components of the AI ecosystem and lack of guiding pathways to best support Open and Sustainable AI (OSAI) model development. In response, this perspective introduces a practical set of OSAI recommendations directly mapped to over 300 components of the AI ecosystem. Our work connects researchers with relevant AI resources, facilitating the implementation of sustainable, reusable and transparent AI. Built upon life science community consensus and aligned to existing efforts, the outputs of this perspective are designed to aid the future development of policy and structured pathways for guiding AI *** Codes 92 © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

Symbolic-numeric research of leaky modes in planar dielectric electromagnetic waveguide as inhomogeneous waves

In the case of guided and radiation modes of open waveguides, the Sturm-Liouville problem is formulated for self-adjoint second-order operators on the axis and the corresponding eigenvalues are real quantities for dielectric media. The search for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions corresponding to the leaky modes involves a number of difficulties: the boundary conditions for the leaky modes are not self-adjoint, so that the eigenvalues can turn out to be complex quantities. The problem of finding eigenvalues and eigenfunctions is associated with finding the complex roots of the nonlinear dispersion *** presence of complex eigenvalues corresponding to the leaky modes leads to an infinite increase of eigenfunctions corresponding to the leaky modes. In the present work, the leaky modes are considered as solutions of the problem for the wave equation and are analyzed as a wave process. Complex eigenvalues define the leaky modes as inhomogeneous waves. The proposed approach allows to obtain a mathematically sound representation of the leaky modes, within which one can see the region of existence of each particular leaky mode. The calculations of model structure, demonstrating the application of the described approach, are presented in the paper.

Mathematical model of the submerged jet for the cases of man-made spills

The paper considers a mathematical model of the spread of a multiphase submerged jet, the flow of which is associated with a well damage during the development of a field or pipeline during oil transport. The jet consists of oil droplets and gas bubbles, as well as water involved into the jet. The case is considered when the environmental conditions correspond to the conditions of a stable hydrate existence, because a hydrate shell begins to form and the gas bubble turns into a hydrate on the surface of the bubbles. The integral Lagrangian control volume method is used to describe the jet spread process. The thermo-physical characteristics of a multiphase submerged jet, depending on the vertical coordinate, as well as the trajectory of the jet, are obtained.

Stark broadening of B I lines belonging to low energetic transitions

Stark broadening parameters of neutral boron spectral lines have been presented. The studied lines correspond to low energetic level transitions. The temperature dependence has been obtained and the contributions of electrons, protons and ionized helium ions have been illustrated. The obtained results are applicable for astrophysical and laboratory plasma.
