In our previous research, combining the unique features of the double-layer network and holographic optical switches not only reduces the volume of the whole system and eliminates all interconnection lines and crossovers significantly, but also reduces the number of drivers from N2/ 4+2Nlog2N-2N to 2Nlog2N. In this paper, modifying the structures of the holographic optical switches to satisfy the characteristics of the double-layer network, the system insertion loss can be minimized significantly from (2log2N-1)(ZPBS+2ZEOHWP) to (2log2N-2)ZPBS+2(log2N)ZEOHWP (dB). After rearranging the channels, the number of electro-optic halfwave plates can be decreased significantly from 2N2-2N to 2Nlog2N.

Ensuring anonymity in wireless and hoc networks is a major security goal. Using traffic analysis, the attacker can compromise the network functionality by correlating data flow patterns to event locations/active areas. In this paper we present a novel Scalable Anonymous Protocol that hides the location of nodes and obscure the correlation between event zones and data flow from snooping adversaries. We quantify the anonymity strength of our protocol by introducing a new anonymity metric: Degree of Exposure Index. Our protocol is designed to offer flexible tradeoffs between degree of anonymity and communication-delay overhead.

This paper proposes a recommendation method considering users' time series contexts which are situations that have occurred/will occur in the past/future. There are some recommendation methods that provide information suitable for users' action patterns as the recommendation methods considering them. These methods provide information referring to the other users that have a similar action pattern to that of an active user. However, since a user's action pattern changes depending on the user's contexts, the methods need to refer to the other users' action patterns related to the current user's contexts. We experimentally analyze a Bessel beam produced with a conical mirror, paying particular attention to its superluminal and diffraction-free properties. We spatially characterized the beam in the radial and on-axis dimensions and verified that the central peak does not spread over a propagation distance of 73 cm. In addition, we measured the superluminal phase and group velocities of the beam in free space. Both spatial and temporal measurements show good agreement with the theoretical predictions.

We propose an automatic and precise moving-object extraction method for use in video streams that can also be used for 3-D system applications. The method generates a statistical model for each pixel using several frames, and then uses it to generate trimap images. After manually initializing a frame, unknown regions are automatically determined either background or foreground for the rest of frames. The key technology proposed is an adaptive training scheme, which estimates detection thresholds locally through the algorithm, followed by matting approaches using an iterative process and weighted statistical distance minimization. Experiments demonstrate outperformance of our method for both indoor and outdoor video streams, and also for 3-D modeling and representation.

By using the ATLAS detector, observations have been made of a centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry in the collisions of lead ions at the Large Hadron Collider. In a sample of lead-lead events with a per-nucleon center of mass energy of 2.76 TeV, selected with a minimum bias trigger, jets are reconstructed in fine-grained, longitudinally segmented electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters. The transverse energies of dijets in opposite hemispheres are observed to become systematically more unbalanced with increasing event centrality leading to a large number of events which contain highly asymmetric dijets. This is the first observation of an enhancement of events with such large dijet asymmetries, not observed in proton-proton collisions, which may point to an interpretation in terms of strong jet energy loss in a hot, dense medium.
