Many approaches support the similarity search for market basket data, which take the transactions as the d-dimensional vectors and compare each transaction with query transaction to get the common number and the different number between them, and then carry out similarity search. Unfortunately, these methods may incur the problems of 'dimensional curse' and inevitable heavy calculation load. Furthermore, we may get the same common number and the different number between many transactions and query transaction, but in this case, they can not identify these transactions for the more exact results. In this paper, we propose a novel similarity search approach for market basket data, in which we originally introduced the similarity between each pair of items to solve the similarity search problem. Firstly, we define a distance function between each pair of items based on the support value and similarity value, and then partition all the items into k clusters. Secondly, we map all the transactions to different bitmap (signature) and then get the candidate transactions according to the upper bound similarity we defined. At last, by using the similarity matrix of each pair of items, we can calculate the similarity between two transactions easily and rapidly. And the experiments validate that our approach is more effective and simple.

Moiré appears when two patterns with slightly different pitches are put together, If there is a gap between these two overlapping patterns, the moiré will then have a binocular parallax, which allows the viewer to experience a depth (floating above the surface or sinking). We explain how we, by overlapping moiré and an ordinary two-dimensional image, produced a prototype "pseudoscopic 3D display" in which the moiré had depth before and behind the 2D image. We also quantitatively analyzed the relationships between the moiré pitch and depth reproduction. The analysis results closely matched the results of a subjective evaluation test. Furthermore, to verify the effectiveness of our system, we produced two types of pseudoscopic 3D display (print type and full-color moving image display type), and verified that a pseudoscopic 3D display with moiré has visually adequate depth.

In the Chinese character culture area, calligraphy-brush writing is important technique, which sometimes develops to art. To acquire this skill, we need to train for long term under masters' guidance. On the other hand, one of the 3D pointing devices, the PHANTOM omni, also has a haptic function, which is available to create the senses of both vision and force virtually. Furthermore LCD shutter glasses aid us to be absorbed in the virtual reality. Therefore we propose implementation of a virtual training system for the calligraphy-brush- writing with these 3D I/O devices. The 3D I/O devices and their APIs are familiar to archive the virtual environments for our purpose easily. Especially the haptic functions are useful to memorize masters' writing motions and to recover them when the apprentices train. Consequently, this system is useful for the apprentices to train the calligraphy-brush writing skill.

The light emission from ZnO films is enhanced by localized surface plasmon (LSP) of Ag island films. The dependence of LSP coupled emission on light-extracting direction and the thickness of ZnO films is investigated. It is found that the photoluminescence (PL) enhancement factors for upward extraction are much smaller than those for downward extraction. This is ascribed to the low transmittance and nonradiative absorption loss of Ag films. The near-field effect of LSP results in the dependence of the PL enhancement of ZnO films on the film thickness. A maximum PL enhancement factor of more than 15 is obtained when the thickness of ZnO was about 40 nm.
