A domain conceptual lexicon can be used for the construction of a domain *** this paper, a method of auto-constructing a domain conceptual lexicon is *** conceptual lexicon is represented by WordNet senses and their *** the domain conceptual lexicon, an extractive summarization method is proposed.A characteristic of the scheme is that each sentence of a document is represented by a set of WordNet senses and constitutes a fuzzy transaction for mining conceptual lexicon and ranking relevance.A prototype of this automatic text summarization scheme is built and an intrinsic method with the information-retrieval criteria is used for measuring the summary quality.

In this paper, we present an efficient hardware/software (HW/SW) implementation of the vector median filter (VMF) using embedded system for impulsive noise suppression in color image. The hardware portion including VMF algorithm is implemented with fast parallel architectures directly in hardware using VHDL language. The remaining parts were realized in software using NIOS II softcore processor using muClinux as operating system. The results show that the use of codesign implementation improves 48 times the filtering speed compared to the software solution.

In this paper, we consider the behavior of a wireless ad-hoc sensor network for different radio models. By means of simulations, we analyze the performance of three protocols: AODV, DSR, and DSDV considering two radio models TwoRayGround and Shadowing. In difference with other works, we generalize the type of radio model by allowing the path loss randomnesses to be present in the service environment of the network. We study the perceived Goodput and Depletion of the ad-hoc sensor network and compare the performance of three protocols for different scenarios. The simulation results confirm the fact that the shadowing phenomena, by destroying the regularity of the network, reduce the mean distance among nodes and at the same time increase the interference level and the latency of packet transmission. In particular, we found a maximum relative difference of 70%. On the other hand, for the proactive DSDV routing protocol the energy consumption rate seems to be independent of the radio model, at least for moderate size of the network (256 nodes). Also, we found that the packet delivery ratio of AODV and DSR routing protocols are more stable than DSDV protocol.

Thermoelectric conversion can convert the thermal energy directly into electrical energy. This characteristic is very important to solve the environmental problem. We have studied the temperature dependence of thermoelectric properties of free‐standing HVPE‐grown GaN, MOVPE‐grown GaN and InN epitaxial layers. We have estimated temperature dependence of effective electron effective mass (m*) of InN.

In this paper we present a study on the requirements for the design and implementation of simulation packages for Grid systems. Grids are emerging as new distributed computing systems whose main objective is to manage and allocate geographically distributed computing resources to applications and users in an efficient and transparent manner. Grid systems are at present very difficult and complex to use for experimental studies of large-scale distributed applications. Although the field of simulation of distributed computing systems is mature, recent developments in large-scale distributed systems are raising needs not present in the simulation of the traditional distributed systems. Motivated by this, we present in this work a set of basic requirements that any simulation package for Grid computing should offer. This set of functionalities is obtained after a careful review of most important existing Grid simulation packages and includes new requirements not considered in such simulation packages. Based on the identified set of requirements, a Grid simulator is developed and exemplified for the Grid scheduling problem.

Computational Grid (CG) is an emerging paradigm in which geographically distributed resources are logically unified as a computational unit. A challenging problem in such systems is the allocation of jobs to resources that minimizes both makespan and flowtime parameters. In this paper, we present an experimental study on Genetic Algorithms (GAs) for scheduling independents jobs to Grid resources based on two replacement strategies: Steady-State GA (SSGA) and Struggle GA (SGA). SSGA distinguishes for its accentuated convergence of the population that rapidly reaches good solutions though it is soon stagnated. The SGA is based on struggle replacement and adaptively maintains diverse population, reducing thus convergence rapidity. The experimental results, based on a benchmark simulation model, showed that SGA outperforms SSGA for moderate size instances. On the other hand, the time needed by the SGA to reach makespan values obtained by the SSGA rapidly increases as more jobs and machines are added to the Grid. Thus, for larger size instances, SGA is not able to improve the results of the SSGA. Finally, we also report and analyze flowtime values for the considered benchmark.

Worldwide lightning location (WWLL) using only 30 lightning sensors has been successfully achieved by using only VLF propagation in the Earth-ionosphere waveguide (EIWG). Ground propagation or mixed “sky” and ground propagation is avoided by requiring evidence of Earth-ionosphere waveguide dispersion. A further requirement is that the lightning strike must be inside the perimeter defined by the lightning sensor sites detecting the stroke. Under these conditions, the time and the location of the stroke can be determined, along with the rms errors. Lightning strokes with errors exceeding 30 ps or 10 km are rejected. To assist with identifying impulses from the same lightning stroke, the lightning sensor threshold is automatically adjusted to allow an average detection rate of three per second. This largely limits detection to the strongest 4% of all lightning strokes, of which about 40% meet the accuracy requirements for time and location.

In this work, we propose an adaptive Monte Carlo (MC) simulation technique to compute the sample paths for the dynamical asset price. In contrast to conventional MC simulation with constant drift and volatility (μ,σ), our MC simulation is performed with variable coefficient methods for (μ,σ) in the solution scheme, where the explored dynamic asset pricing model starts from the formulation of geometric Brownian motion. With the method of simultaneously updated (μ,σ), more than 5,000 runs of MC simulation are performed to fulfills basic accuracy of the large‐scale computation and suppresses statistical variance. Daily changes of stock market index in Taiwan and Japan are investigated and analyzed.
