This paper demonstrates the use of an integrated toolset for program understanding. By leveraging the unique capabilities of individual tools, and exploiting their power in combination, the resultant toolset is able to facilitate specific reverse engineering tasks that would otherwise be difficult or impossible. This is illustrated by applying the integrated toolset to several typical reverse engineering scenarios, including code localization, data flow analysis, pattern matching, system clustering, and visualization, using a mid-size production program as the reference system.

A scaling algorithm is proposed for extracting significant features of both process trend and spikes from the time series data of process variables. This algorithm is based on triangular episodic representation of time series data and scaling of episode series. First, the spikes of interest are selected by the plant operator using four parameters that characterize the spikes. Second, the series of episodes in each interval, divided by the spikes, is scaled by the algorithm. Finally, the merged episodes and spikes are connected to show a rough profile of the data.

The theoretical behavior of TE-plane wave scattering from a dielectric-loaded semicircular trough in a conducting half-space is investigated. The dielectric loading is made of a circular cylinder which is partially buried in a semi-circular trough in a perfectly conducting plane. The scattered field is numerically evaluated to investigate the angular scattering pattern under the various dielectric loading conditions. The presence of the dielectric loading in the trough can substantially affect the angular scattering behavior. The difference between the TE and TM-scattering angular patterns is also observed. The field magnitude inside the trough is found to be much greater than the outside, thus indicating that the trough focuses the incident beam inside the trough.

In this paper, the robust control design methods are applied for a magnetic bearing experimentally. The μ-synthesis based on the mixed sensitivity problem and the Loop Shaping Design Procedure are employed here. Comparative studies are made with experiments for a magnetic bearing having multi-inputs and multi-outputs. The results show that, with an appropriate use of the μ-synthesis methodology, the robust performance design objective can be achieved systematically.
