Experimental Study on Surface Integrity of Ti6Al4V by Broaching

The performance of many parts in the airplane, aircraft engine and biomedical implants is highly related to their fatigue life, which is clearly depend on the condition of their surface integrity. The geometry parameters of broaching tools have an important influence on the surface integrity after broaching Ti6Al4V alloy. Therefore, this research studies the surface integrity of Ti6Al4V by broaching. The surface integrity is studied at different geometric parameters such as rake angles (α, and α 0), clearance angles (β, and β0), and radius of the cutting edge (r0) in two last teeth of the broaching tool that perform chipping. The broached surface integrity is assessed in cases of surface roughness, microstructural, residual stresses, and micro hardness. These results show that the sample broached by tool number 1 (α = 18.4, β = 3.1, α0 = 45, β0 = 9, r0 = 0.02) had higher surface integrity because it was the smoothest surface and the thinnest deformed layer among the other samples. Since the main criterions in selection of the optimal tool are to create the smoothest surface and the least deformed layer depth in the broached sample, tool number 1(α = 18.4, β = 3.1, α0 = 45, β0 = 9, r0 = 0.02) is suggest ed as the optimal tool. © 2022 Materials and Energy Research Center. To register two images, existing methods normally estimate the parameters of an affine transform, and then perform an inverse affine transform to the test image by using the estimated parameters. Any metric can then be applied to the reference image and the normalized image. In this paper we propose a new method for measuring visual image quality which circumvents the need to estimate the parameters of the affine transform. Instead, we use the log-polar transform and the fast Fourier transform (FFT) to extract features that are invariant to translation, rotation, and scaling. We apply the existing structural similarity index measure (SSIM) to the two invariant feature images, where no inverse transform is needed. Experimental results show that our proposed method outperforms the standard metric, the mean SSIM (MSSIM), significantly in terms of visual quality scores. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Holographically driven active reconfigurable intelligent surface (HARIS), leveraging densely packed subwavelength elements, overcomes the limitations of conventional RIS in signal processing, unlocking advanced capabilities for next-generation networks. Thus, to exploit its full potential, this work proposes the integration of HARIS into an Internet of Things (IoT) multiuser uplink near-field-driven wireless communication system. A sum-rate maximization problem is formulated to provide efficient resource utilization by jointly optimizing the equalizer design, power allocation at each IoT user, and the HARIS phase shift, while satisfying strict constraints of Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirement and limited power budget at each IoT user and HARIS. Due to the nonconvex nature of the problem, we propose an alternating optimization (AO)-based algorithm, incorporating techniques, such as minimum-mean-square error (MMSE), convex upper bound approximation, and semidefinite relaxation (SDR). Then, extensive simulations validate the algorithm’s efficacy and convergence, demonstrating up to 63% higher performance with HARIS than passive RIS. Additionally, we highlight that near-field communication yields up to 90% higher sum-rate than hybrid 76% and far-field model 73%. Moreover, we demonstrate the impact of imperfect channel state information (iCSI) on the system performance. © 2014 IEEE.

Semidefinite and sum-of-squares (SOS) optimization are fundamental computational tools in many areas, including linear and nonlinear systems theory. However, the scale of problems that can be addressed reliably and efficiently is still limited. In this article, we introduce a new notion of block factor-width-two matrices and build a new hierarchy of inner and outer approximations of the cone of positive semidefinite (PSD) matrices. This notion is a block extension of the standard factor-width-two matrices, and allows for an improved inner-approximation of the PSD cone. In the context of SOS optimization, this leads to a block extension of the scaled diagonally dominant sum-of-squares (SDSOS) polynomials. By varying a matrix partition, the notion of block factor-width-two matrices can balance a tradeoff between the computation scalability and solution quality for solving semidefinite and SOS optimization problems. Numerical experiments on a range of large-scale instances confirm our theoretical findings. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Off-site construction (OSC) is gaining significant attention due to its promising benefits, including reduced time, cost, and waste, along with improved quality, productivity, and safety. However, the dynamic nature of the production process (i.e., non-typical process time) introduces challenges in OSC production line, such as: (i) bottlenecks: (ii) workstation idle time;and (iii) identification of an optimal production sequence. To leverage the full benefits of OSC, a superior production planning and scheduling optimization method become imperative. Therefore, this paper aims to compare the computational performance of the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for optimizing OSC production schedule. The methodology consists of the three key steps, including: (i) data analysis;(ii) development of GA and PSO algorithms;(iii) implementation of both GA and PSO in a real-life wall panel production line in Edmonton, Canada. The results reveal that GA outperforms PSO in minimizing project completion time (PCT). Specifically, for 160 wall panels, the PCT using GA is 6112 min, whereas with PSO, it is 6122 min. Conversely, PSO produces results more quickly than GA. For the same set of 160 wall panels, the model runtime is 17.97 sec for GA and 6.0 sec for PSO. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for production managers in selecting the most effective algorithm for optimizing production schedules. © 2024 ISARC. All Rights Reserved.

Recent advances in DeepFake face-swapping technology have made it simple to create fake videos that appear remarkably real. Since it has been employed in numerous instances for deceit, extortion, and the falsification of facts, its widespread use has generated a huge social, security, and political risk. Its use on websites and social media has become more widespread. Detecting this crime is becoming more and more important due to the potential harm false videos may inflict on a global scale. This research offers a method for building a deep learning model that really can tell the difference between authentic and false videos. The article describes how to create new models based on the VGG16 neural network, a previously created neural network that does image categorization, using transfer learning in the computer vision field. Deep learning is still becoming better at both producing and spotting DeepFakes. DeepFake detection algorithms are developed using dated public datasets, and as a result, they may become obsolete with time. and require continual updating. The research findings are encouraging, and our results reached an accuracy rate of over 90%. © 2023 IEEE.

Federated learning is a cutting-edge data solution that protects privacy as well as a fresh machine learning model developed on collaborative data sets. A major concern privacy protection aspect of machine learning has proven quite successful. The PFMLP framework, which is based on federated learning as well as collaborative machine learning, is presented in this paper for multi-party safeguarding privacy machine learning. All learning partners ought to send only homomorphic encrypted gradients, according to the basic idea. According to experiments, the PFMLP-trained model almost always achieves the same accuracy, with a variance of less than 1.%. The upcoming privacy-preserving data technology and a fresh category of distributed learning models, federated learning, were both invented by Google. In this research, we examine distributed ML applied to dispersed data sets and federated learning as an option for privacy-preserving data access. Additionally, a federated learning architecture that protects privacy is presented. © 2023 IEEE.

Every day,the media reports tons of crimes that are considered by a large number of users and accumulate on a regular *** news exists on the Internet in unstructured formats such as books,websites,documents,and *** such homogeneous data,it is very challenging to extract relevant information which is a time-consuming and critical task for the public and law enforcement ***-based Information Retrieval(IR)systems rely on statistics to retrieve results,making it difficult to obtain relevant *** are unable to understandthe user’s query and thus facewordmismatchesdue to context changes andthe inevitable semanticsof a given ***,such datasets need to be organized in a structured configuration,with the goal of efficiently manipulating the data while respecting the semantics of the *** ontological semantic IR systemis needed that can find the right investigative information and find important clues to solve criminal *** semantic system retrieves information in view of the similarity of the semantics among indexed data and user *** this paper,we develop anontology-based semantic IRsystemthat leverages the latest semantic technologies including resource description framework(RDF),semantic protocol and RDF query language(SPARQL),semantic web rule language(SWRL),and web ontology language(OWL).We have conducted two *** the first experiment,we implemented a keyword-based textual IR systemusing Apache *** the second experiment,we implemented a semantic systemthat uses ontology to store the data and retrieve precise results with high accuracy using SPARQL *** keyword-based system has filtered results with 51%accuracy,while the semantic system has filtered results with 95%accuracy,leading to significant improvements in the field and opening up new horizons for researchers.

As virtual and augmented reality applications gain popularity, omnidirectional image (ODI) super-resolution has become increasingly important. Unlike 2D plain images that are formed on a plane, ODIs are projected onto spherical surfaces. Applying established image super-resolution methods to ODIs, therefore, requires performing equirectangular projection (ERP) to map the ODIs onto a plane. ODI super-resolution needs to take into account geometric distortion resulting from ERP. However, without considering such geometric distortion of ERP images, previous methods only utilize a limited range of pixels and may easily miss self-similar textures for reconstruction. In this paper, we introduce a novel Geometric Distortion Guided Transformer for Omnidirectional image Super-Resolution (GDGT-OSR). Specifically, a distortion modulated rectangle-window selfattention mechanism, integrated with deformable self-attention, is proposed to better perceive the distortion and thus involve more self-similar textures. Distortion modulation is achieved through a newly devised distortion guidance generator that produces guidance for the rectangular windows by exploiting the variability of distortion across latitudes. Furthermore, we propose a dynamic feature aggregation scheme to adaptively fuse the features from different self-attention modules. We present extensive experimental results on public datasets and show that the new GDGT-OSR outperforms methods in existing literature. © 1991-2012 IEEE.
