Cybersecurity Landscape on Remote State Estimation:A Comprehensive Review

Cyber-physical systems(CPSs)have emerged as an essential area of research in the last decade,providing a new paradigm for the integration of computational and physical units in modern control *** state estimation(RSE)is an indispensable functional module of ***,it has been demonstrated that malicious agents can manipulate data packets transmitted through unreliable channels of RSE,leading to severe estimation performance *** paper aims to present an overview of recent advances in cyber-attacks and defensive countermeasures,with a specific focus on integrity attacks against ***,two representative frameworks for the synthesis of optimal deception attacks with various performance metrics and stealthiness constraints are discussed,which provide a deeper insight into the vulnerabilities of ***,a detailed review of typical attack detection and resilient estimation algorithms is included,illustrating the latest defensive measures safeguarding RSE from ***,some prevalent attacks impairing the confidentiality and data availability of RSE are examined from both attackers'and defenders'***,several challenges and open problems are presented to inspire further exploration and future research in this field.

EVA2.0:Investigating Open-domain Chinese Dialogue Systems with Large-scale Pre-training

Large-scale pre-training has shown remarkable performance in building open-domain dialogue ***,previous works mainly focus on showing and evaluating the conversational performance of the released dialogue model,ignoring the discussion of some key factors towards a powerful human-like chatbot,especially in Chinese *** this paper,we conduct extensive experiments to investigate these under-explored factors,including data quality control,model architecture designs,training approaches,and decoding *** propose EVA2.0,a large-scale pre-trained open-domain Chinese dialogue model with 2.8 billion parameters,and will make our models and codes publicly *** and human evaluations show that EVA2.0 significantly outperforms other open-source *** also discuss the limitations of this work by presenting some failure cases and pose some future research directions on large-scale Chinese open-domain dialogue systems.

Developing creative material in STEM courses using integrated engineering design based on APOS theory

Over the past several years, creativity has been recognized as an important skill for success in STEM education, engineering design and computational thinking. There is limited research on how to apply Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate (CDIO) engineering design in STEM courses and how it affects students' creativity. This study strategically integrated computational thinking (CT), STEM, and CDIO engineering design, based on Action-Process-Object-Schema (APOS) theory, into a course. This study has adopted a framework to design creative learning materials and examined how this framework impacts students' creativity. This study used a pretest–posttest nonequivalent-groups design. The study investigated a STEM course which had 40 participants (n = 40, male = 11, female = 29) for 12 weeks. 6 weeks were spent using traditional teaching and 6 weeks integrating a CDIO framework into computational thinking. All the students in the course were college students with teacher college backgrounds. To examine the impact of our course, we used a questionnaire to examine the students’ creativity before and after the STEM course was applied. Our results show that our course had a significantly impact on our students’ creativity, particularly in the case of the male students. This finding is consistent with the findings of other research studies. This study also offers some suggestions for teachers who wish to improve their learning materials. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V.

Purpose: In current circumstances, investigators who are doing exploration in various regions remote from their old neighborhood are experiencing different skin issues like dermatitis, dry skin, and psoriasis because of environment or weather condition changes, food sensitivities, and water changes. This results in itching and dry patching on their skin. An affected individual should investigate and analyze the skin sickness, take appropriate precautions to keep the illness from spreading and seek therapy from a skin expert as quickly as time permits. Since the investigators come from different parts of the country, they are unfamiliar with hospitals and places, so they avoid such skin diseases without realizing the severity of the sickness. To address this, we propose a computer-aided system that detects and classifies skin diseases early, helping individuals to identify their condition and seek appropriate treatment quickly. Methods: To detect skin disease at an early stage, this work epitomizes a strategy using a computer-aided model according to sophisticated deep learning neural network techniques such as convolutional neural network (CNN), Residual neural networks, and Xception neural network to detect skin disease. We use the HAM-10000 data set, which contains data on seven different types of skin diseases. Results: The CNN model produced the most significant performance accuracy of 98.3718% in the experiments. Conclusion: The paper presents a promising approach for skin disease detection and classification using DCNNs. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The Brazilian Society of Biomedical engineering 2024.

To extract important information from the document images, document layout analysis research has been carried out. Previous research analyzes document layouts only for specific document formats. This paper proposes a document layout analysis method that adopts pre-processing based on document image classification to analyze document layouts for various document formats. From the application examples, we have confirmed that the proposed method can correctly analyze document layout by using training models trained for each document format. Furthermore, to evaluate the usefulness of the proposed method, we have compared the F score of the proposed method for document layout analysis using a single training model covering various document formats and using a training model generated for each document format. In recent years,the Internet of Things(IoT)has gradually developed applications such as collecting sensory data and building intelligent services,which has led to an explosion in mobile data ***,with the rapid development of artificial intelligence,semantic communication has attracted great attention as a new communication ***,for IoT devices,however,processing image information efficiently in real time is an essential task for the rapid transmission of semantic *** the increase of model parameters in deep learning methods,the model inference time in sensor devices continues to *** contrast,the Pulse Coupled Neural Network(PCNN)has fewer parameters,making it more suitable for processing real-time scene tasks such as image segmentation,which lays the foundation for real-time,effective,and accurate image ***,the parameters of PCNN are determined by trial and error,which limits its *** overcome this limitation,an Improved Pulse Coupled Neural Networks(IPCNN)model is proposed in this *** IPCNN constructs the connection between the static properties of the input image and the dynamic properties of the neurons,and all its parameters are set adaptively,which avoids the inconvenience of manual setting in traditional methods and improves the adaptability of parameters to different types of *** segmentation results demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed self-adaptive parameter setting method of IPCNN on the gray images and natural images from the Matlab and Berkeley Segmentation *** IPCNN method achieves a better segmentation result without training,providing a new solution for the real-time transmission of image semantic information.

The demands on conventional communication networks are increasing rapidly because of the exponential expansion of connected multimedia *** light of the data-centric aspect of contemporary communication,the information-centric network(ICN)paradigm offers hope for a solution by emphasizing content retrieval by name instead of *** 5G networks are to meet the expected data demand surge from expanded connectivity and Internet of Things(IoT)devices,then effective caching solutions will be required tomaximize network throughput andminimize the use of ***,an ICN-based Cooperative Caching(ICN-CoC)technique has been used to select a cache by considering cache position,content attractiveness,and rate *** findings show that utilizing our suggested approach improves caching regarding the Cache Hit Ratio(CHR)of 84.3%,Average Hop Minimization Ratio(AHMR)of 89.5%,and Mean Access Latency(MAL)of 0.4 *** a framework,it suggests improved caching strategies to handle the difficulty of effectively controlling data consumption in 5G *** improvements aim to make the network run more smoothly by enhancing content delivery,decreasing latency,and relieving *** improving 5G communication systems’capacity tomanage the demands faced by modern data-centric applications,the research ultimately aids in advancement.

Planetarium: A Rigorous Benchmark for Translating Text to Structured Planning Languages

Recent works have explored using language models for planning problems. One approach examines translating natural language descriptions of planning tasks into structured planning languages, such as the planning domain definition language (PDDL). Existing evaluation methods struggle to ensure semantic correctness and rely on simple or unrealistic datasets. To bridge this gap, we introduce Planetarium, a benchmark designed to evaluate language models’ ability to generate PDDL code from natural language descriptions of planning tasks. Planetarium features a novel PDDL equivalence algorithm that flexibly evaluates the correctness of generated PDDL, along with a dataset of 145,918 text-to-PDDL pairs across 73 unique state combinations with varying levels of difficulty. Finally, we evaluate several API-access and open-weight language models that reveal this task’s complexity. For example, 96.1% of the PDDL problem descriptions generated by GPT-4o are syntactically parseable, 94.4% are solvable, but only 24.8% are semantically correct, highlighting the need for a more rigorous benchmark for this problem. Enhancing breast cancer histopathological image classification using attention-based high order covariance pooling

Breast cancer, the most common cancer affecting female patients, presents serious challenges for proper detection. Although computer-aided diagnostic techniques have progressed, their accuracy and efficacy remain limited. To overcome these challenges, we introduce DHA-Net, a new deep learning system that combines an effective attention module (EAM) and a high-order pooling layer with a ResNet-18 backbone. DHA-Net is tested using three well-known breast cancer histopathology image datasets: BreakHis, BACH2018, and a closely related Kaggle-Breast cancer histopathology dataset. Our experiments show that DHA-Net not only improves on existing state-of-the-art approaches, but significantly outperforms them in classifying breast cancer images. This work emphasizes the novel combination of an EAM with high-order pooling, demonstrating DHA-Net’s potential to improve diagnostic accuracy and serve as a more effective tool for medical imaging applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
