The advent of high-throughput transcriptomic technologies has generated vast transcriptomic datasets, challenging current analytical methodologies with their sheer volume and complexity. The Grouping-Scoring Modeling (G-S-M) approach is one of the recent approaches that treat groups of genes (or clusters of genes) by embedding prior biological knowledge with machine learning in order to detect the most significant groups for classification tasks. The G-S-M might need to treat thousand ten thousand of groups (scoring those groups) which might affect the speed and performance of the algorithm. In response, this study introduces the Pre Scoring G-S-M model, an enhancement of the established Grouping-Scoring-Modeling (G-S-M) framework. This approach incorporates a Pre-Scoring component that leverages the Limma package for its empirical Bayes methods to optimize initial transcriptomic data evaluation through a percentage-based selection of statistically significant gene groups. Aimed at reducing computational demand and streamlining feature selection, the model also addresses data redundancy by eliminating duplicate gene-disease associations. Application to nine human gene expression datasets from the GEO database showed promising results. It demonstrated improvements in computational efficiency and analytical precision while reducing the number of features selected per dataset compared to the traditional G-S-M approach, without compromising accuracy. These initial findings highlight the Pre-Scoring G-S-M model's potential to enhance transcriptomic data analysis, indicating a promising direction for future bioinformatics research. © 2025 by SCITEPRESS– science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Feature Subset Weighting for Distance-based Supervised Learning through Choquet Integration

This paper introduces feature subset weighting using monotone measures for distance-based supervised learning. The Choquet integral is used to define a distance metric that incorporates these weights. This integration enables the proposed distances to effectively capture non-linear relationships and account for interactions both between conditional and decision attributes and among conditional attributes themselves, resulting in a more flexible distance measure. In particular, we show how this approach ensures that the distances remain unaffected by the addition of duplicate and strongly correlated features. Another key point of this approach is that it makes feature subset weighting computationally feasible, since only m feature subset weights should be calculated each time instead of calculating all feature subset weights (2m), where m is the number of attributes. Next, we also examine how the use of the Choquet integral for measuring similarity leads to a non-equivalent definition of distance. The relationship between distance and similarity is further explored through dual measures. Additionally, symmetric Choquet distances and similarities are proposed, preserving the classical symmetry between similarity and distance. Finally, we introduce a concrete feature subset weighting distance, evaluate its performance in a k-nearest neighbors (KNN) classification setting, and compare it against Mahalanobis distances and weighted distance methods. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

The industry is rapidly transitioning from the 4.0 era to the 5.0 era, prompting renewed interest among scholars in scheduling problems. They allow operations to process and assemble various components simultaneously. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the diverse research perspectives on the potential challenges of integrated scheduling within the framework. We identified 357 Scopus articles and analysed co-occurrence keyword (CNK) by VOSViewer tools and Global Citation Score (GCS) by Scopus tools. The research data obtained from 1993 to 2023 mainly in the subject areas of Engineering, computer science, Maths, and others. CNK identified six cluster keywords, and nine most cited articles based on normalised GCS. These results contribute to our understanding of the development of scheduling algorithms, shifting from an emphasis on manufacturing transfers to contemporary demand-centric research directions. Furthermore, this research provides a valuable perspective for policymakers, plant personnel, and manufacturing managers to make informed decisions.

This study investigates sex-based differences in brain structure-function coupling using a novel dynamic intermodality source coupling (dIMSC) method, which we use to integrate dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC) and structural brain morphometry (SBM) data from the ABCD study. This study aims to examine the coupling between dFNC and sMRI gray matter volume, comparing the coupling in relation to sex differences across brain regions. By examining the coupling between dFNC and SBM matrices, we identified distinct functional-structural coupling patterns across sexes in various brain regions. Females showed stronger correlations in areas previously associated with social and language processing, such as the inferior frontal gyrus and superior parietal lobule, while males exhibited stronger correlations in regions that have previously been linked to spatial processing, including the superior temporal gyrus, lingual gyrus, and cerebellum. These findings underscore nuanced sex-specific variations in brain structure-function relationships, offering insights into distinct patterns of the brain.

Additive manufacturing (AM) has revolutionized many industries. Directed energy deposition (DED) offers remarkable utility in size and is an effective method in terms of energy efficiency. The interaction of powder with a laser before coming in contact with the substrate helps to attain fair melting and deposition. However, there is a problem associated with non-uniformity and accumulation of metallic melt on the edges of the manufactured parts which needs to be understood. Herein, the DED process of Ti6Al4V alloy is presented. The phenomenon of recoil pressure and Marangoni actions along the single tracks of the melt pool is defined via the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. The discrete element modeling (DEM) improves the simulation model output as variable particle diameters are considered, thus mimicking the actual powder size distribution. The simulation results disclosed intricate facts about the flow dynamics of molten material under varying conditions. The stream traces and thermal gradients are evaluated to recognize the effect of laser movement on material cooling and surface tension. The material accumulation occurred at curves and borders due to cooling-induced surface tension alterations, affecting the attribute of the deposited layers. The bi-directional flow patterns are prompted by Marangoni convection and recoil pressure, causing distinct features, including lateral menisci and depression modes. The cooling rates impacted the liquid portion and dilution levels, critical for attaining optimal bonding between deposited layers and substrate. Experimental endorsement using Synchrotron X-ray imaging favored the simulation results, confirming the simulated Marangoni convection effects. This comparison highlights the efficiency of CFD models in predicting molten material behavior, offering a worthy tool for adjusting DED printing parameters. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature

Existing end-to-end quality of service (QoS) prediction methods based on deep learning often use one-hot encodings as features, which are input into neural networks. It is difficult for the networks to learn the information that is conducive to prediction. Aiming at the above problem, an end-to-end deep learning QoS prediction model based on a temporal context and feature fusion is proposed. In the proposed model, three blocks are designed for QoS prediction. Firstly, a user-service encoding conversion block is designed to convert the one-hot encodings of users and services into the latent features of users and services, which can make full use of the data in sparse matrices. Then a time feature extraction block is designed to extract time features based on the time-varying characteristics of QoS values. Finally, the time features are fused with the latent features of users and services to predict QoS values. The experimental results show that on existing datasets, the proposed model has better prediction accuracy than other advanced methods in response time and throughput. © 2025 IEEE.

Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) offers valuable insights into the human brain’s functional organization and is a powerful tool for investigating the relationship between brain function and cognitive processes as it allows for the functional organization of the brain to be captured without relying on a specific task or stimuli. In this study, we introduce a novel attention mechanism for graphs with subnetworks, named Self Clustering Graph Transformer (SCGT), designed to handle the issue of uniform node updates in graph transformers. By using static functional connectivity (FC) correlation features as input to the transformer model, SCGT effectively captures the sub-network structure of the brain by performing cluster-specific updates to the nodes unlike uniform node updates like vanilla graph transformers, further allowing us to learn and interpret the subclusters. We validate our approach on the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) dataset, comprising 7,957 participants, for the prediction of total cognitive score and gender classification. Our results demonstrate that SCGT outperforms the vanilla graph transformer method, and other recent models, offering a promising tool for modeling brain functional connectivity and interpreting the underlying subnetwork structures. © 2025, CC BY.

Automated Testing for Service-Oriented Architecture: Leveraging Large Language Models for Enhanced Service Composition

This article explores the application of Large Language Models (LLMs), including proprietary models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT 4o and ChatGPT 4o-mini, Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.7 Sonnet, and Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro, Gemini 2.0 Flash, and Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, as well as open-source alternatives including Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct-1M, and commercially accessed models such as DeepSeek R1 and DeepSeek V3, which were tested via APIs despite having open-source variants, to automate validation and verification in Application Programming Interface (API) testing within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Our system compares internal responses from the Enuygun Web Server against third-party API outputs in both JSON and XML formats, validating critical parameters such as flight prices, baggage allowances, and seat availability. We generated 100 diverse test scenarios across varying complexities (1–4 flight results) by randomly altering request and response parameters. Experimental results show that Google Gemini 2.0 Flash achieved high accuracy (up to 99.98%) with the lowest completion time (85.34 seconds), while Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct-1M exhibited limited capability in processing complex formats. Models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet models also demonstrated strong performance in single-flight validation scenarios, making them suitable for low-latency, high-precision tasks. Our findings indicate that some open-source models can offer promising cost-effective alternatives, though performance significantly varies. This integration of LLMs reduced manual workload, improved test scalability, and enabled real-time validation across large-scale datasets. As LLM technologies mature, we anticipate further advances in automation, accuracy, and efficiency in software validation systems. © 2013 IEEE.

Streaming Graph Pattern Mining (GPM) has been widely used in many application fields. However, the existing streaming GPM solution suffers from many unnecessary explorations and isomorphism tests, while the existing static GPM ones require many repetitive operations to compute the full graph. In this paper, we propose a pattern-aware incremental execution approach and design the first streaming GPM accelerator called PSMiner, which integrates multiple optimizations to reduce redundant computation and improve computing efficiency. We have conducted extensive experiments. The results show that compared with the state-of-the-art software and hardware solutions, PSMiner achieves the average speedups of 770.9× and 60.4×, respectively.
