Usually, elderly patients in hospitals suffer from malnutrition because they are unable to consume food as prescribed by doctors or nutritionists. Analyzing food intake is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Therefore, machine learning is used to analyze the food intake. Major food analysis tasks include food classification and food weight estimation. The basic machine learning approach to this problem is to combine a food classification model with a food weight estimate model sequentially. When we deployed it, we found that a large amount of memory and models were required. One solution is to use multi-task learning. In this study, we proposed multi-task learning frameworks that could recognize food and predict weight based on a single image. The performance of our frameworks was compared to the baseline models, which only utilized either regression or classification. Although baseline accuracy is higher, our framework has MAPE values that are lower than the baseline. To improve the performance, we explored different approaches for weighting loss, including manual weighting and auto weighting, using uncertainty and auxiliary tasks. From the experiment, our results showed that our multi-task learning framework that adjusted the weight of loss using auxiliary tasks outperformed the baseline models in terms of MAPE and Accuracy. Moreover, we demonstrate our framework when scaling up the backbone from ResNet50 to ResNet101 and ResNet152. © 2023 IEEE.

Increasingly popular decentralized applications (dApps) with complex application logic incur significant overhead for executing smart contract transactions, which greatly limits public block chain performance. Pre-executing transactions off the critical path can mitigate substantial I/O and computation costs during execution. However, pre-execution does not yield any state transitions, rendering the system state inconsistent with actual execution. This inconsistency can lead to deviations in pre-execution paths when processing smart contracts with multiple state-related branches, thus diminishing pre-execution effectiveness. In this paper, we develop Seer, a novel public block chain execution engine that incorporates fine-grained branch prediction to fully exploit pre-execution effectiveness. Seerpredicts state-related branches using a two-level prediction approach, reducing inconsistent execution paths more efficiently than executing all possible branches. To enable effective reuse of pre execution results, Seer employs checkpoint-based fast-path execution, enhancing transaction execution for both successful and unsuccessful predictions. Evaluations with realistic block chain workloads demonstrate that Seer delivers an average of 27.7× transaction-level speedup and an overall 20.6× speedup in the execution phase over vanilla Ethereum, outperforming existing block chain execution acceleration solutions. © 2025, VLDB Endowment, All rights reserved.

Imitation learning has emerged as a promising approach for addressing sequential decision-making problems, with the assumption that expert demonstrations are optimal. However, in real-world scenarios, most demonstrations are often imperfect, leading to challenges in the effectiveness of imitation learning. While existing research has focused on optimizing with imperfect demonstrations, the training typically requires a certain proportion of optimal demonstrations to guarantee performance. To tackle these problems, we propose to purify the potential noises in imperfect demonstrations first, and subsequently conduct imitation learning from these purified demonstrations. Motivated by the success of diffusion model, we introduce a two-step purification via diffusion process. In the first step, we apply a forward diffusion process to smooth potential noises in imperfect demonstrations by introducing additional noise. Subsequently, a reverse generative process is utilized to recover the optimal demonstration from the diffused ones. We provide theoretical evidence supporting our approach, demonstrating that the distance between the purified and optimal demonstration can be bounded. Empirical results on MuJoCo and RoboSuite demonstrate the effectiveness of our method from different aspects. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

Asynchronous Graph Neural Network (AGNN) has attracted much research attention because it enables faster convergence speed than the synchronous GNN. However, existing software/hardware solutions suffer from redundant computation overhead and excessive off-chip communications for AGNN due to irregular state propagations along the dependency chains between vertices. This paper proposes a chain-driven asynchronous accelerator, CDA-GNN, for efficient AGNN inference. Specifically, CDA-GNN proposes a chain-driven asynchronous execution approach into novel accelerator design to regularize the vertex state propagations for fewer redundant computations and off-chip communications and also designs a chain-aware data caching method to improve data locality for AGNN. We have implemented and evaluated CDA-GNN on a Xilinx Alveo U280 FPGA card. Compared with the cutting-edge software solutions (i.e., Dorylus and AMP) and hardware solutions (i.e., BlockGNN and FlowGNN), CDA-GNN improves the performance of AGNN inference by an average of 1,173x, 182.4x, 10.2x, and 7.9x and saves energy by 2,241x, 242.2x, 12.4x, and 8.9x, respectively. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). This article presents an overview of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) and its various methods, emphasizing the role of interpretability, in present day AI systems. With AI becoming more prevalent in decision making processes across fields there is a growing need for transparency and accountability. We delve into XAI techniques, such as agnostic methods like Local Interpretable Model agnostic Explanations (LIME) and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) model specific approaches like Integrated Gradients and transparent models like decision trees and rule based systems. By examining the strengths and limitations of these methods we provide insights into their usefulness and effectiveness, in scenarios. This review aims to give researchers and practitioners a nuanced understanding of XAI to support the creation and implementation of transparent AI systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Early detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) needs to be increased to prevent further adverse impacts. Thus, the classification between ASD and Typically Development (TD) individuals is an intriguing task. This review study has collected 26 related papers to answer four research questions, i.e., what are the most used data inputs, brain atlases, and machine learning models for ASD classification, as also to discover the significant parts of the brain correlated with the ASD. It was eventually found that functional connectivity matrix, Support Vector Machine, and CC200 are the most frequently used data input, model, and brain atlas, respectively. researchers also concluded that the posterior temporal fusiform cortex, intracalcarine cortex, cuneal cortex, subcallosal cortex, occipital pole, and lateral occipital cortex are the brain regions highly correlated with ASD. © 2023 The Authors. TikTok, a social networking site for uploading short videos, has become one of the most popular. Despite this, not all users are happy with the app;there are criticisms and suggestions, one of which is reviewed via the TikTok app on the Google Play Store. The reviews were extracted and then used for training a sentiment analysis model. The VADER sentiment method was utilized to offer the review's initial labeling (positive, neutral, and negative). The result revealed that most reviews were classified as positive, meaning that the data were imbalanced and challenging to handle in further analysis. Therefore, Random Under-sampling (RUS) and Random Over-sampling (ROS) methods were deployed to deal with that condition. The labeled reviews were subsequently pre-processed using tools such as case folding, noise removal, normalization, and stopwords before being used for training a Support Vector Machine (SVM) model for sentiment classification. The SVM trained without resampling produced the most favorable results, with an F1-score of 0.80. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

As one of the cancer types with the highest incidence rates, colorectal cancer (CRC) would benefit from treatments with fewer side effects and reduced treatment-resistant potential. One of the options is to harness the anti-CRC potential of natural products. Previous studies have shown that Calamus draco exudate, dragon's blood, has anticancer activity in liver cancer and acute myeloid leukemia, but its bioactivity has not been studied in CRC. Here we conduct a bioinformatics study based on network pharmacology to explore the anti-CRC potential and mechanism of C. draco-derived compounds. The bioinformatics pipeline is composed of compound and target collection, biological network evaluation, and enrichment analysis. We found that there are 43 bioactive compounds from C. draco targeting 91 CRC-related targets, of which most compounds target MEN1, PTGS2, and IDH1. Further analyses show that the targets of C. draco are involved in the cellular response to hypoxia. By inhibiting those targets, C. draco bioactive compounds can potentially hinder angiogenesis and increase treatment response efficacy. © 2024 The Authors.

The purpose of this study is to present the numerical performancesand interpretations of the SEIR nonlinear system based on the Zika virusspreading by using the stochastic neural networks based intelligent computingsolver. The epidemic form of the nonlinear system represents the four dynamicsof the patients, susceptible patients S(y), exposed patients hospitalized inhospital E(y), infected patients I(y), and recovered patients R(y), i.e., SEIRmodel. The computing numerical outcomes and performances of the systemare examined by using the artificial neural networks (ANNs) and the scaledconjugate gradient (SCG) for the training of the networks, i.e., *** correctness of the ANNs-SCG scheme is observed by comparing theproposed and reference solutions for three cases of the SEIR model to solvethe nonlinear system based on the Zika virus spreading dynamics throughthe knacks of ANNs-SCG procedure based on exhaustive *** outcomes of the ANNs-SCG algorithm are found consistently in goodagreement with standard numerical solutions with negligible errors. Moreover,the procedure’s constancy, dependability, and exactness are perceived by usingthe values of state transitions, error histogram measures, correlation, andregression analysis.
