We study how decoherence increases the efficiency with which we can simulate the quantum dynamics of an anharmonic oscillator, governed by the Kerr effect. As decoherence washes out the fine-grained subPlanck structure associated with phase-space quantum interference in the closed quantum system, open quantum dynamics can be more efficiently simulated using a coarse-grained finite-difference numerical integration. We tie this to the way in which decoherence recovers the semiclassical truncated Wigner approximation (TWA), which strongly differs from the exact closed-system dynamics at times when quantum interference leads to cat states and more general superpositions of coherent states. The regression in quadrature measurement statistics to semiclassical dynamics becomes more pronounced as the initial amplitude of the oscillator grows, with implications for the quantum advantage that might be accessible as system size grows in noisy quantum devices. Lastly, we show that this regression does not have the form of a convex noise model, such as for a depolarizing noise channel. Instead, closed quantum system effects interact with the open system effects, giving rise to distinct open system behavior. © 2023, CC BY.

Over few decades, there are quite a number of clinical guidelines are provided to healthcare workers regarding treatment suggested for homogenous patients, facing similar medical symptoms. Certainly, such recommendations may differ among guidelines, which results in tough scenario for clinicians to make a better decision. The scope of the work is to recognize homogeneous patients having similar medical signs and symptoms, demographics and health data. Distinguishing proof of comparative patient cases is helpful to work on clinical results. In view of the proposed model utilizing Machine Learning (ML) Algorithms like K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naive Bayes, Random Forest, and expert opinion is utilized as a base for infection analysis and treatment idea. Better accuracy of 98% is achieved by SVM. It helps in the treatment or medication proposal of another patient, expectation of clinical outcomes, clinical help desk, research and in numerous other cases.

Unsupervised Generation of Tradable Topic Indices Through Textual Analysis

Stocks returns are moved by many risk factors. Thematic stock indices try to represent these factors, but are limited by the fact that risk factors are not directly observable. This paper shows a method to uncover hidden risk factors through text analysis. It applies the dynamic variant of the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model to annual and quarterly reports to find a topic distribution for each stock. This is then interpreted as the risk factor partition and transformed into a standard normal basis which corresponds to pure risk factors. The weights indicate the proportions necessary to combine the equities into tradable topic indices. The need for human intervention is minimized by determining the optimal parameters automatically. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A wheelchair is a specialized form of Personal Mobility Vehicle (PMV) designed to help people with disabilities move safely to their desired locations. Unlike conventional PMVs, wheelchairs for people with disabilities are challenging to manually control in environments with heavy traffic. This study focuses on designing and feasibility testing of control systems for PMVs to meet safety and efficiency standards, even in complex environments. First, a control structure model for PMVs is proposed. This is followed by the application of a combination of First In First Out (FIFO) and Dijkstra traffic control methods to determine effective trajectories for PMVs. The proposed control system is then tested on the campus of the University of Transport and Communications. Simulation results show that when comparing the travel time of 10 PMVs, the order execution time for each PMV remains stable (within 10%) for up to 20 PMVs. However, when the number of PMVs increases to 25, 30, 35, and 40 vehicles, the order execution time increases by 35%, 55%, 103%, and 119%, respectively. These results demonstrate that the system can control a large number of PMVs, ensuring safety, flexibility, and efficiency. © 2024 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Automated ambulance detection system using image processing

This paper highlights the importance of automated ambulance detection system. It suggests a methodology that makes use of the technologies such as embedded system and image processing. The vehicle detection system captures the images and movements of ambulance and passes the respective signals to the receiver in the Arduino board. Currently, traffic control has become an issue and to add on, the ambulance movements also results in adverse traffic mismanagement. Hence, we propose the detection and control system that mainly focuses in capturing the traces of ambulance and pass the appropriate signals to the embedded system used, that is the Arduino Board and the response is noted in the Emergency Signal Display Board. In addition to this, a display is kept at the traffic police polls to reveal the current status of signal. This can serve to control the violation of traffic rules while an ambulance is on move.

Bounding the difference between model predictive control and neural networks

There is a growing debate on whether the future of feedback control systems will be dominated by data-driven or model-driven approaches. Each of these two approaches has their own complimentary set of advantages and disadvantages, however, only limited attempts have, so far, been developed to bridge the gap between them. To address this issue, this paper introduces a method to bound the worst-case error between feedback control policies based upon model predictive control (MPC) and neural networks (NNs). This result is leveraged into an approach to automatically synthesize MPC policies minimising the worst-case error with respect to a NN. Numerical examples highlight the application of the bounds, with the goal of the paper being to encourage a more quantitative understanding of the relationship between data-driven and model-driven control. © 2022, CC BY.

This study investigated the oil pollution remediation ability of konjac glucomannan (KGM) aerogel immobilized Chlorella vulgaris LH-1 (C. vulgaris). The KGM aerogel exhibited a high porosity of 86.83 %, and with the change of crude oil concentration (1–10 g/L), the crude oil adsorption efficiency of KGM aerogel was up to 18.75 %. The KGM aerogel carrier enhanced the crude oil biodegradation efficiency of C. vulgaris by 13.86 %. The concentration of residual n-alkanes of the immobilized C. vulgaris group was only 36.83 % of that of the free C. vulgaris group after 14 days of cultivation. In the crude oil metabolites of immobilized C. vulgaris, the concentrations of benzoic acid, phthalic acid, and benzophenone were 1.35, 21.18 and 3.43 times higher than those of the free C. vulgaris, respectively. Compared with free C. vulgaris group, 9 monooxygenase genes, 11 dioxygenase genes and 2 cytochrome P450 genes of immobilized C. vulgaris group were up-regulation and the "hydrocarbon metabolism process" was significantly enriched (enrichment factor is 0.85) in the gene ontology (GO) analysis of the transcriptome of C. vulgaris. These results showed that the ability of C. vulgaris to degrade crude oil was improved due to the existence of the KGM aerogel immobilized carrier. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Generalized Power Iteration with Application to Distributed Connectivity Estimation of Asymmetric Networks

The problem of connectivity assessment in an asymmetric network represented by a weighted directed graph is investigated in this article. A power iteration algorithm in a centralized implementation is developed first to compute the generalized algebraic connectivity of asymmetric networks. After properly transforming the Laplacian matrix of the network, two sequences of one-dimensional and two-dimensional subspaces are generated iteratively, one of which converges to the desired subspace spanned by the eigenvector(s) associated with the eigenvalue(s) representing the network’s generalized algebraic connectivity. A distributed implementation of the proposed power iteration algorithm is then developed to compute the generalized algebraic connectivity from the viewpoint of each node, which is scalable to any asymmetric network of any size with a fixed message length per node. The convergence analysis of these algorithms is subsequently provided under some weak assumptions. The efficiency of the developed algorithms in computing the network connectivity is then demonstrated by simulations. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

Two-layer nonlinear control of DC-DC buck converters with meshed network topology

In this paper, we analyse the behaviour of a buck converter network that contains arbitrary, up to mild regularity assumptions, loads. Our analysis of the network begins with the study of the current dynamics;we propose a novel Lyapunov function for the current in closed-loop with a bounded integrator. We leverage on these results to analyse the interaction properties between voltages and bounded currents as well as between node voltages and to propose a two-layer optimal controller that keeps network voltages within a compact neighbourhood of the nominal operational voltage. We analyse the stability of the closed loop system in two ways: one considering the interconnection properties which yields a weaker ISS type property and a second that contemplates the network in closed loop with a distributed optimal controller. For the latter, we propose a novel distributed way of controlling a Laplacian network using neighbouring information which results in asymptotic stability. We demonstrate our results in a meshed topology network containing 6 power converters, each converter feeding an individual constant power load with values chaning arbitrarily within a pre-specified range. © 2021, CC BY-SA.

Circular Economy (CE) is an emerging paradigm aiming at establishing a new sustainable development path by decoupling economic growth and resource consumption. The main limitation in current production models is that manufacturing and de-and remanufacturing operations are carried out independently and without sharing information and economic benefits. This can be overcome by rethinking the current European industrial system into new collaborative and sustainable value networks. New business cases can be generated also for individual Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) by taking advantage of the connection with the Industry 4.0 opportunities and by building on cross-sectorial markets and the potential of digital solutions. The operational services (DOS) presented in this paper are the key part of a novel digital platform called DigiPrime, whose aim is to provide SME with a federated service infrastructure that help overcome the current information asymmetry and explore the possibility to access and transit towards a CE cross-sectorial value-chain. The manuscript presents a selection of DOS considered fundamental for an SME in such a process, through a relevant exploitation use-case scenario. The combination of such DOS has been validated within the project for the case of an electric car repair-shop network and the preliminary outcome of their integration process is also outlined. © 2020 Elsevier B.V..
